Boca have just beaten Palestino 2 x 0. It could have been by a few more if it wasn't for the young Dario Melo in the Palestino goal. He was great tonight. Sadly for Palestino they are out but the football gods have rewarded us...

Unless Corinthians absolutely thrash both San Lorenzo tonight (2.00AM) and then São Paulo next week (both unlikely), we have a River x Boca Superclásico Last 16 in the Libertadores.

Edit: Corinthians and San Lorenzo draw so the Superclásico is officially on.

The Corinthians x Palmeiras derby is taking place right now. Very on edge as eight members of the Corinthians torcida organizada Pavilhão Nove were gunned down in their club house (their "sede") before the game. Police are saying this has nothing to do with Palmeiras fans.

Andrés Sanchez, Corinthians president from 2007 to 2011 was one of the founders of Pavilhão Nove. One of the dead is Fábio Neves Domingos, ex leader of the group and one of those arrested in Bolivia after the murder of 14 year old Kevin Espada that made headlines around the world in 2013.

A few people stormed the groups club house, forced the people to the ground then shot them in the head. This is probably connected to the drug trade in the city of São Paulo and is one of the biggest massacres (connected to either football or illegal drug gangs) in a long time.

Brazil is heading to a dark place. I know some Brazilians where I live and they're quite nervous about what's going on. The drug industry is reaching Mexico-like levels of infiltration.

There seems to be nothing to be cheery about right now. Murders taking place on an industrial scale, police killings spiralling out of control with 2000 killings a year at the last count. All these "Impeach Dilma" freaks out on the streets calling for another coup and this Petrobras scandal.

Going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Ouf yeah, the middle-class callings for a coup are some frightening stuff. Throw in the rise in Evangelism, its ties to the drug industry, police corruption, and it's bleak as *.

Those evangelicals have swept up a huge number of footballers. Almost all the ones that are overtly religious like Kaká are evangelicals. Rede Record is the second biggest channel in the country after the Globo monster and is owned by the same Evangelical group that felt the need to build this monstrosity - a replica of Solomon's Temple, going by the Bible's description :smiley-laughing002:

The tempo is the same in every game! Its always good viewing in my opinion.

Im willing the Boca keeper to have a wee slip up, as i backed the draw @6/1 about 10 minutes ago!:smiley-laughing002:

Just £3, so no big deal!

Cruzeiro x Universitario Sucre. If Cruzeiro win their through. If they draw or lose and Huracán get a better result plus a few goals then Huracán will go through.

Edit: Mineros are ahead in Venezuela. No Venezuelan side has won a game so far and this is the 18th and final chance for one of the countries three representatives to win a game. But there is always a * up. The fourth biggest stadium in the country is empty and this is the camera position :56:

Internacional and Emelec go through. Now Atlético Mineiro at home to Colo Colo. The Brazilians need to win by two clear goals to go through but their current form isn't great. Of course, they have made a bit of a reputation of late for pulling off shock comebacks at the Independência.

The São Paulo x Corinthians Majestoso is at 2.00AM.

Well a big * off storm has put an end to the Atlético Mineiro game for anyone outside the stadium for now. Camera signal is down but I think the game is still going on.

The puddles are starting to form.

Atlético Mineiro did it. They missed a penalty but Rafael Carioca made up for that with this great goal.

Colo Colo are out and Chile has no teams in the Last 16. That is shocking when you see that Venezuela and Peru are the only other countries with nobody in the Last 16.

Now the big one! São Paulo x Corinthians

Disappointed in the Chilean sides, especially U de Chile. Also a bit bummed that Huracán are eliminated before I'll be there, but excited about that Superclásico match in the first knockout round.

Cobresal are champions of Chile for the first time ever. The trophy goes to the Atacama Desert for the first time since 2004 when Cobreloa won.

Universidad César Vallejo, another of those teams named after a person won there first major trophy too, the Copa Inca. They beat Alianza Lima, Peru's biggest club 3 x 1 in the final.
