    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--N3skCpX8c"]Atlético-MG 2 x 0 Cruzeiro - GOLS - Final da Copa do Brasil 2014 - YouTube[/ame]

Atlético had their best performance of the year. They came out the traps like a greyhound, using their attacking wing backs in Marcos Rocha (my MOTM) and Douglas Santos to great effect. They packed the box for most of the game and the sheer energy of midfielder Luan forced the ball across the line. There was little skilful play, more sheer energy, pound up the wings. The second goal was another scramble, where a less determined team would have failed to get.

Cruzeiro had no ideas on the pitch. They slowed the game down mid way through the second half and looked to take control for there. Yet they struggle to pass through the Atlético. This resulted in them smacking it long to Marcelo Moreno, who was no physical match for Jemerson and Leonardo Silva. Lucas Silva, the best young passer in Brazil was so ineffective he came off at half time for Nilton (I think there was a slight injury too). Everton Ribeiro also struggled and came off for an ineffective Júlio Baptista and the goal scoring youngster Ricardo Goulart made way for a ageing Dagoberto.

Atlético could have done with a third to make it safe and Diego Tardelli had the chance to do that. Cruzeiro will score Mineirão, but it will need to be early.

Deportes Tolima also won the Colombian cup last night. It is only their third major title, first since 2003. A 2 x 0 home win saw them through.

Johan Venegas scores in the last minute to get Costa Rica a 3 x 3 draw with Uruguay at the Centenario. The World Cup clearly wasn't a flash in the pan, a proper side have formed here, as Copa Centroamericana players come through and score. Fantastic :50:

Edit: Costa Rica won the penalty shoot out.

Very interesting game in Santiago last night between Chile and Uruguay. Uruguay went to Chile without Luis Suárez as he won't be able to play in the Copa América, so they experimented here.

To begin with Tabárez played Cavani up front by himself in front of a deep midfield five. Cavani suited this role well, as he is the best "box to box" striker (if there is such a thing) in the world. He seems to be all lungs. Jonathan Rodríguez came on in the last ten minutes and should be good coming off the bench at his young age. I think Rodríguez will be the next Uruguayan superstar.

Arévalo Ríos sat deep with the more creative Lodeiro and Sánchez around him. Even at his older age Arévalo Ríos looks crucial to Uruguay. He is lucky that he has Godín behind him but does a good job breaking up play. José Giménez also won his 14th cap aged 19, so the future doesn't look too dark. They set up to defend against a Chile side that would hold the ball for much of the game and press forward, and then use the pace of Cristian Rodríguez and Diego Rolán on the break. It worked and will almost certainly by how they play next year.

Chile couldn't really break them down but Alexis Sánchez kept up his goalscoring.

Peru also managed to finally beat another South American team. First win since they beat Ecuador in June.

Macaé just became Série C champions, beating Paysandu.

Internacional x Atlético Mineiro just starting. Atlético put a B team out, saving A team for the Cup final. Inter big favourites and they need the win to keep their Libertadores chances alive.

Edit: And Vasco da Gama are back in the top division.

Cruzeiro are champions of Brazil! Tetracampeão! The rain came down like nobodies business but that didn't stop this Cruzeiro machine. They really deserve this title. Their goals were a lot more concentrated this year but still a team with great depth. Marcelo Moreno showed the talent we all knew he had; Lucas Silva continues to develop and will be a superstar in the future, Egídio should be in the Brazil squad and Ricardo Goulart was probably the player of the season.

Dagoberto also becomes the third player ever to win five Brasileirãos. He gets his hands on this monstrosity of a trophy again :56:

And Criciúmabecame the first side to be relegated. A 1 x 1 draw with Flamengo in São Luís wasn't enough. Botafogo and Bahia are the walking dead while Coritiba, Vitória, Chapecoense and Palmeiras are hanging by a string.

Boca doing all their enemies a favour there . That win means Racing for the first time are clear out in front. River give the lead away with only two games left. River's only hope is that Racing slip up with their harder run in. Rosario Central's form has slipped away but they still possess a danger man in the young Pablo Becker. Then Godoy Cruz who have the best attacking line up but also the worst defence so they'll be a great challenge.

It's amazing how big a difference there is in Racing. Since getting Diego Milito in their self confidence has gone through the roof. Gustavo Bou from River was also a master stroke. 24 years old with 10 goals in 13 games. Gastón Díaz has also refound his Vélez Sársfield form.

Milito has been more of a talisman rather than goal scorer. The self-belief that spread through that Racing side, that was on it's knees before, has been remarkable.

I'd go for Chile in Group A over Mexico. Think they'll send a full strength team but the Gold Cup starts only three days after the Copa América. So if Mexico get a decent run they'll have very little rest time.

    A: Chile, Mexico, Ecuador, Bolivia

    B: Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Jamaica*

    C: Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru

Have a feeling Paraguay and Ecuador will be the two best third placed teams.

    * Think they will send a weakened team.

São Paulo will play Atlético Nacional tonight but the rain is coming down hard at the Morumbi.

This game will also be Atlético Nacional 80th game of the season. If they go all the way in everything their still in they could get up to 87 games this year. Madness.

Penalties at the Morumbi. São Paulo have been by far the better side and Ganso got the goal with a wiped in free kick that the keeper missed. Michel Bastos also missed an open goal from the penalty area. If they go out they'll be kicking themselves.
