he made it clear to everybody from the start, including arsenal where he has an offer on the table that he wouldnt make any decision until after his honeymoon

15.08 BST: Newcastle may have landed Dan Gosling earlier, but boss Chris Hughton has denied he is looking to sign Raul, Hatem Ben Arfa, Sol Campbell and Benjani this summer.

Also denies trying to get Hooper in the article.

    Campbell would stroll the SPL.

More importantly, we have some top young centre halfs on the fringes of the team. Should they make the team they need an old head to take them through each game. THey will benefit no end from having Campbell here. In training and off the pitch. The guy has so much experience. 35k is steep but not a ransom.

Maybe Campbell would stroll the SPL but I wouldn't want him at the club. All throughout his career all he has cared about is whats best for Sol Campbell. I'm no Spurs fun but what he did to them was totally *, then when Pompey are paying off their tea ladies and back office staff he launches a law suit for £1 million against them for image rights. The man is money obsessed and has a complete lack of dignity. We should let him go and he can pick up his money somwhere else.

I doubt he will get a longer deal, Wenger's policy is to only offer a one year contract to players over 30.....Campbell is looking for longer...I don't see Wenger changing club policy for him, he must realise that surely? I think it could be the other way around...He is using Arsenal, so that ourselves and any other interested parties get involved in a wage war for his services. Both us and Sunderland have offered him a two year deal.....So weekly wage will come into play when he decides in my opinion.

Transfer news: Sol Campbell to snub Newcastle, Sunderland and Celtic and sign new Arsenal deal after honeymoon - News - MirrorFootball.co.uk

Sol Campbell is set to sign a new contract with Arsenal once he returns from honeymoon.
Veteran Campbell, 35, will snub offers from Celtic, Sunderland and Newcastle to stay with the Gunners.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger offered Campbell a one-year contract two months ago after the former England defender enjoyed an impressive second spell at the club last season.
But the deal stalled as Wenger was at the World Cup working for French TV station TF1 and yet the Gunners chief has made it clear he wants Campbell to stay.

Campbell, who got married to interior designer Fiona Barratt last weekend, wanted two years but was also keen to stay at Arsenal as he has great affection for the club.
Wenger sees Campbell as ideal cover and experience for Thomas Vermaelen and new £8m signing Laurent Koscielny. But Wenger still wants another centre half, having had a bid knocked back for Everton’s Phil Jagielka.

Its the mirror and I doubt Sol is telling papers his decision when he is on his honeymoon. If he signs with arsenal then he has no interest in playing football for the next year./

The Sun is running that story as well. Doesn't mean it's correct but we can't keep hanging on like this for Campbell to decide. Lenny, please go and get Ramis signed a.s.a.p. I can't believe we don't have money to make signings without selling McGeady first.

Sunderland have just signed Bramble and Newcastle have ruled themselves out, Campbell wants more than the one year deal hes being offered by Arsenal... Surely that just leaves us....I'm not bothered either way but I'm sure his experience would be good for our team and esp the younger defenders like Rogne and Misun.

article in todays sun ( spanish version ) that sol campbell with have to lower his wage demands ($35000) if he wants to sign for sunderland

i think if he has any ambition left in him ( and david james ) they will be wearing celtic strips next year

thing is 35k a week for a guy who is 35 years old and lets not forget people he signed for notts county last season and only played a few games for arsenal again, am just wondering who campbell thinks he is? or his age does he think he is 28 in him prime? i mean think about it 35k a week for him....... i don't know about you but he is not worth 35k a week

so let sunderland have him and we can get in a younger cb and for less a week aswell, same for james i think he would be a good short term fix but i would hope celtic get in a younger keeper like westwood who is ghetting better with every year unlike james who can only go down hill from now on....

anyone else share this view? is 35k a week for a 35 year old cry baby to much?

yeah am with u on that one 35k is not an option as i said before i would rather we got rid of o dea and loovens and went for a decent long term solution as campbell is not a long term fix and would be getting paid far too much in my eyes....
