Almost as good as Robert Johnson on the guitar, almost. Mr Johnson is the man!

*, forgot Guthrie Govan (and Steven Wilson). The solo in this song is one of the best I've ever heard. Starts at around 5:00, but do yourself a favour and listen to the entire song.

Matt Bellamy is another good shout. Some of his early live performances are frighteningly good.

There's not one "greatest", per sé, although there are a * of alot of pioneer's. Everyone has a different taste, and nowadays there's so much variety, and to be honest, proper talented musicians/guitarists are rarely put in the limelight. Everything is centered around chart music, and it's tough to get recognition for these players, you have to go searching and lose yourself down the many rabbit holes that these guys occupy.

Have many favourites, who I can take a little from, but i like my strat guys.

    My idols are:

Hendrix - Especially his "Band of Gypsys" stuff. Touched on very briefly in his Woodstock set.

SRV - This guy is a * machine and just oozes class, his live performance at "El Mocambo" is amazing. If you can watch this gig and not put him in your top five at the very least, then you can't appreciate what genius is. His session with Albert King (honourable mention) is also a great watch, with a few beers in hand of course.

Rory Gallagher - Such rawness from Rory. Prefer his stuff with "Taste", and his earlier solo stuff. Plays with so much energy, he's incredible to watch. Can't think of a particular live performance from him to recommend, they are all pretty sublime, he puts on a * good show. Once short listed for the rolling stones, would you beleive? There's a good clip of him with Jack Bruce actually, at Montreux I think it is. Good to see two legends going at it.

Honourable mentions: John Fruisciante, Dave Gilmour, & of course, no Jeff Beck without Roy Buchanan!
All great guitarists, but feel as if they just don't have the same "aura" as the three I listed above.

Even going down the routes of Chet Atkins, Brian Setzer, Duane Allman...

Could talk about this stuff all night! :smoke:
