    :56: Thats tremendous.

I do find myself sounding very hypocritical though, as i have sky sports. The golf coverage is exceptional on it and for that reason couldn't scrap it :31:

Aye I heard that BT suddenly entering the market with huge force really freaked Sky out and they were not expecting that to happen to their budget at all.

I think BT's resources are even larger than Sky's although I did hear Murdoch is buying Sky so he probably wants to pump his own money in?

The main problem for Sky is BT have their own boxes and access via Virgin Media so a lot of people are giving up Sky because BT has the Champions League and enough EPL/SPFL games to satisfy them.

Also La Liga is a great league for them to have. Well I'd say it's next best after the EPL for viewers down south. Mind you they don't get El Clasico which was astonishing. That is probably worth all the other games put together advertising wise and La Liga put it on at 3.15pm because the rest of the world can watch it then.

Correct, Quite scary that one man could basically control the inputs on most European tv screens. The guardian had a good piece about it (could someone delete the link if against rules etc) https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/dec/15/rupert-murdoch-sky-bid-pay-tv

Once Rupert's gone i do believe sky will be *. Over 50% of the board voted against his son as chairman but it was overturned, id imagine daddy has a helping hand in this.

Sooner they stop throwing money about the better.

The money going up wont last its rising faster than inflation id say the money the now is the most they will get you can only get so many veiwers and subscribers once the money stays the same clubs will starts feeling it because they are not run well players asks for bigger contract they give him it because they think new contract from sky in few years will be higher so that will stabalise the debt

The problem is these asian countries still throw huge amounts at the PL. The Chinese super league is evidently growing and i believe this will have an input to England.

Theres no way sky will be able to justify these mad payments within the next ten years, the parachute payments for relegated teams is frightening. Completely * the 'modern' game.

Two things I don't understand about this is it says Sky was valued at £18m in February and Murdoch wants to pay closer to £11m?

How would he be able to do this to the shareholders?

Also, the last thing the UK or any other part of the world needs is Fox New being beamed onto their tvs with home content. I don't care what side of the political divide you are on, I have watched a little bit of Fox News America and it's a terrible vehicle for proper news. It's arrogant, treats guests like peices of crap and has the same respect for factual news. I don't mind the fact it's right wing, it's the behaviour of it that is quite concerning for the future of tv.

I don't think Sky has any control over it at all. La Liga's statement said it would be more preferable for Asian audiences and American audiences if it was played at that time. Now if you put aside the advertising revenue and the viewers in those continents are paying a fee to watch it then it makes sense La Liga exposes the game to as many people as possible. Of course it's all about advertising revenue. What I don't understand is why it seems to have happened all of a sudden. Messi and Ronaldo will be retired in 3 years probably so it looks like a lot of people are getting on the bandwagon late.

I did read though, Messi creates 50% more revenue than Ronaldo which I thought was interesting as I assumed their fan base was largely equal. Then again on footballing terms it makes perfect sense.

I think you are right. I can't help thinking about the property boom when reading your post. I know they are totally different things but people have suddenly been asked to start paying a lot more, clubs will be paying players based on the value always going up which is what caused a major problem in the housing Market and when people are starting to leave, Sky will have to gamble and say to BT look you can have it for this price but we're out it's just not profitable enough which it can't be. BT might say thanks and pay the premium for 3 years until Sky collapses because the EPL is 99% why people subcribe and then when they are gone BT might try to drop the price.

I don't know if Sky would ever let this happen though as it must make some money at a certain price threshold and BT can't go on forever paying over the odds.

The Premium Event I think is the Champions Legue though and I cannot see BT letting go of that so easily as it must've gained a lot of customers from it.

Not even ITV has any games so to see it you kinda have to have access to BT because they stopped showing the freeview game on a freeview box last game.

I prefer BT so I'm not bothered if Sky get it or not.

What must be worrying for EPL teams is their performance levels in Europe while they've been the richest league apart from the 2 Spanish teams and I think but am not sure Bayern???

Anyway Sevilla's success in Europa and Atletico and Real reaching two finals in 3 years is crazy dominance.

I think the parachute payments are very unfair for Championship teams. Any team that fails to make use of that money and return to the EPL is in big trouble.

Agree about the Asian markets. Chinese football is printing money too, can't believe it. Will be a long time before I find it attractive to watch I imagine. But they will own the rights to La Liga and get preference over the UK/Europe.

11million? he's rumoured to be looking to pay over 11billion for it!

This would give the chairmen a nice 40 million for their shares, thats way it might happen!

The money is frightening but hey, they brainwash the majority of the UK with their pro right wing * so no wonder it's worth that. Which links perfectly to your fox news part, That stations audience must be 90% red necks, it's scary the * they come out with. They'd have Obama hung, drawn & quartered if they could do.

Haha oh yeah of course thanks. I knew it seemed awfully cheap when I typed it :giggle1: Shareholders would definitely be going mental.

Yeah I seen Fox News ask a Muslim guy on once, I think he was a scholar at a university or something and the guy started shouting at him as if he had done something wrong and then kept talking over the top of him when he tried to answer.

It was quite disturbing because this is a respectable member of the community the audience could get interesting information from.

I'm waiting for Trump to fly to North Korea to make diplomatic ties, just to see the looks on Fox Reporters as they report it live. It'll never happen but anything slightly left wing is like the Cuban Missile Crisis to them.

I read an quote from Rubert Murdoch regarding Brexit. He was all for it but when asked why he said "because when I go to Downing Street and ask for something to be done, it gets done. When I go to Brussels people don't know me and just ignore me." :giggle1:

Business has been kind to myself this year with certain markets failing, i'd had been keen to borrow/invest 11million for sky :56:

Not sure if you've seen this clip but it's an utter joke, one of Americas biggest news stations has * like this. You actually laugh in despair at it, the worst part is most americans will see nothing wrong with it!

ah I seen that recently. But on the Daily News. Don't know if you've seen them ripping it apart, it's quite funny but crazy that it's real.

Regarding Trump as a person I originally had immense respect for him. I was a fanatic golfer & through my work i was lucky enough to attend the opening of his international golf links course in Aberdeen.

Bare in mind this was 4 years ago & and as a 20 year old starting his own business, Trump was someone you'd even look up to. He was a lot more quiet with the press these days!

Today i look at him a lot different, i appreciate he received a hefty sum of money to fund him however i've seen an awful lot of people * their inheritance money away on *. The guy a c**t but he's done pretty well for himself :47:

Actually scary that. I don't like stereotyping folk but the majority of America are brutal.

I was at the masters back in April with hospitality through Legal & General. I couldn't believe some of the * i heard. The race segregation really is rife in some parts of the sates.

I can't find a quote online for this but I seen it online or on tv, someone mentioning he wasn't such a great businessman as he's made out to be as he bought an $8bn company and turned it into a $3bn company.

I understand he started off with $1m in the 70s which was quite a sum and I don't rate him that highly because if you have that much money to start with in the 70s before everything went crazy then I believe you would have to be a very bad property developer. Not to mention the advice he must've received from his family and friends.

Buying property that needs done up has always been a money spinner. It's just raising the capital in the first place that prevents most people.

If that is what you are planning on doing then I wish you all the luck in the world. I think it's much harder now than in Trumps day.

Something else that bugs me is he doesn't seem to care about the laws or protocols of his own or other countries which is beyond arrogance. 9 times he had to apply for planning permission to Aberdeen council after he had already completed the work.

That is the most anyone has ever applied for one place as far as I remember reading. I get the feeling he gets away with things other people might not.

Also, charging his government security full rates to stay at his hotel when they are on duty watching him is a little bit sly. If you're the president you'd think a bit of discount for your country might come in handy. From all accounts he's going to make as much money from the Presidency as possible. I think he's already negotiated a deal with the Argentinian leader for a tower down there. His daughter is in charge of his property while he's in office but he put her on the phone to the Argentine while he was on an official call from the oval office. You see he doesn't give a *. At first I found him amusing. I'm thinkinkg he's goiong to be quite dangerous now.. Of course I hope I'm wrong.

I take it the Aberdeen golf course is a good one? I don't play myself but I appreciate a well laid out course.

It's very disappointing isn't it considering the very public and brutal civil rights marches that black people had to endure to get some kind of equality, you'd think it would have had a more positive impact.

I don't know for sure but I think inner city ghettos haven't helped at all.

Plus the gap between rich and poor has widened considerable in America since the 60s and they have this new phenomenon , the gated community spreading all over the country. Although Mexico has the most per capita in the world due to kidnappings.

Interesting SKY are in trouble. I have been saying for years that the EPL bubble will burst eventually, whether in 2 years or 20. Well SKY being in trouble is the first thing I would expect to see before the bubble burst. I wonder if this could be the beginning of the end for the EPL bubble. You know something, I've been here in China for nearly 3 weeks and I haven't seen an EPL shirt in all that time. I don't think I've gone that long without seeing an EPL shirt since I was a kid.

If it does burst in the next 5 years, it's hard to foresee how that will affect us. On the one hand we will no longer have to worry about teams like Southampton taking our best players pretty much at will; on the other hand we lose our biggest market to sell players for big money when we need it.

One way or another we'll have to change our model.

I'd agree that most my political agreements will be different to folk on here. IMO most of the 'BLM' protests are * and i will read a lot into it to see all sides of the argument. I do think Black people are discriminated against however some of the riots they have are not needed.

Personally, i was brought up in a wealthy area in Cheshire & have done pretty well for myself which why i have historically voted tory, albeit i disagree more & more with that party hence i haven't voted in 2 years now.

I'd never consider myself someone who could vote republican for a guy like Trump though.

Yeah that will be a problem for us as we're a great shop window for players. Moussa being the latest example.

If it does burst I don't think it'll crash though. It might just settle back down to the pre BT prices which were high anyway.

Very surprising you haven't seen an EPL shirt in China. I assumed they would be massive there. It's a huge market I'm sure clubs are dying to get into. What about Madrid and Barca?

I think we'll have to have a strange scouting strategy anyway because check the recent rumours regarding McCarthy and Snodgrass. We just don't have the money. Championship level is tough too but we can offer those players European Football fingers crossed.

China would be a good place to buy. There will probably be a few talented players there and it might also heighten our profile and sell a few shirts, attract a few players.

I doubt I'm the first person in the UK to have said that statement though.

Going to be interesting to see what Sky does if it buys Sky UK.

I don't knnow what kind of cash Murdoch has behind him. What would be his reason for purchasing it now?

Do you see many football pitches in China?

Are you having a good time? I hope you are :50:

What is Christmas like there? Just another day? I hope you enjoyed it.

How is the language coming along?
