It's not that stupid considering that nine people have voted no and the football phone-ins over the past few days have had numerous Celtic fans saying similar things. I also know a few Celtic fans that are angry at the performance against Sion and are worried we might get embarrassed and are hoping we don't get reinstated.

You only want to hear the opinions of people that agree with you. :38:

The only good thing to come out of this will be the money and even then, we probably won't see it being spent on players. The same scenario as the McGeady money from last summer. It's embarrassing if we need to resort to this in order to play European football.

For that very reason, I'm voting against it. It also means we can concentrate solely on the league, which is the most important thing. The thought of them winning another title this year eats away at me, especially with that fat * Sally in charge.

Let's be realistic; even if we do get a place in the next round by default, we're still not good enough to get through the group stages. We'll be the laughing stock of European football.

We actually did play the 1st leg under protest, and as far as I know, we did send a letter of complaint to UEFA.

But UEFA pbviously wait for the Swiss Civil Court´s final decision (next Monday) before taking any action themselves (set for next Tuesday).

    You kidding us on:97:

I can't weigh up why eufa/fifa let the second leg take place.
If Sion broke the rules in the first leg they should have
    been * off.

    Rubbish.

I was raging at our performance. Irrelevant to the question and rules of the competition.

Plenty great discussions on here with people of differing opinions...who support their opinion with reasoned points.

In my reckoning UEFA never kicked out Sion before the legs because I'm sure they were MAYBE hoping that Celtic would do them a favour by beating them :icon_mrgreen: Celtic beating Sion would have saved UEFA a job of actually removing Sion from the competition, even though UEFA would obviously never admit this. That's not happened so now it has to go down the official channel of UEFA having the meeting on whether to remove Sion or not.

It MAY be a bit more complicated behind the scenes - who knows, but the laws of the game surely cannot be broken for this, which is what will happen if Sion don't get punted out. UEFA cannot delay with with this either because they cannot delay the competition for the sake of this Constanin guy's continued idiocy and appeals. The matter has to be resolved before the group stages start and if Sion are punted THEN it will go down the appeals channel. Just like Fenerbahce - they are appealing the decision but they have already been taken out the competition.

Sion have taken a chance that they are right in all this and fielded the players anyway BUT they have played them by chance without KNOWING 100% that they were ok to field them. If there was any doubt whatsoever - and there obviously was - then the ineligible players shouldn't have played. Unless anything had been finalised they shouldn't have put the players on the pitch - period, so Sion may well have just shot themselves in the foot (especially this Constantin guy) by playing them regardless.

UEFA & FIFA are not above the law as stated before but they cannot go against their own rules and if the rules stipulate that when a ban is in place UNTIL a certain time then a team cannot buy players until that ban is over and because they bought players DURING a ban they obviously cannot register them meaning that not only have they went against the regulations of them being banned from buying players they have went against the regulations of them registering the players as well. If Sion don't get punished because of these rulings then it will be THEM that are above the law as they will have gotten away with fielding ineligible players.

The ruling with the SFA and Lennon earlier this year can't be compared because the SFA tried to go AGAINST their own rulings and they would have looked like bigger idiots than what they already are if they went against them regardless. Also this was within the Scottish game so the ruling was down to the SFA. This is in a European competition so the ruling is with UEFA, not the Swiss FA. UEFA are not trying to go against their own rulings here either because, as a poster mentioned above, it clearly states -

Well, Sion obviously didn't register the players within the requested deadlines because they were bought during a transfer ban so they should face the legal consequences for fielding the UNregistered players.

If UEFA do not act against Sion then it will give precedent for other clubs to follow suit because they will not be able to allow one club to do this but not another club.

If Sion don't get punished for this then there should be MAJOR uproar about it.

That's true. If all Sion get, is let's say a hefty fine and a slap on the wrists other teams might just begin to break the rules in which they did as they know it's not going to effect them in any way whatsoever concerning progress in the tournament. Surely FIFA will have to disqualify them, unless they want more and more clubs in the future doing this sacrificing the fine to allow them to play inelegible players.

Exactly. If Sion get away with then the next incident when another club does this will pretty much be like "Well, FC Sion were allowed to do it so why can't we?"

These sort of rules can't be bent for one team and not for another.

I think the question is a no brainer - of course we should get reinstated. Why should a team that cheated be allowed to stay in the competition? :47:

Any talk I've seen about embarrassment is pish because WE have nothing to be embarrassed about as it's not US that cheated.

UEFA = "FC Sion, you have been found guilty of fielding ineligible players against Celtic FC in both legs of the play-off round in the Europa League. We'll let you go through anyway because they have passed up the opportunity to play in the competition as they consider it "embarrassing" for them to go through this way"

    :97::97:

We could be given another chance to play in Europe this year and to pass it up would be so ridiculous it wouldn't be able to be put into words.

You think ANY team would let an incident like this slide? Exactly, and neither should we.

Why?? It was us that Sion were playing so why should another side that weren't even IN the competition take our place? Sion finished 7th in their league last season and they were only in the play-off because they won the Swiss FA Cup, so for a team that didn't even merit being in the competition in the first place would be even worse.

We may have been * through the two legs but we had played a team that had cheated, so regardless of how we played Sion shouldn't go through on the pure merit of cheating alone. You condone the cheating over how we played? :97:

How do you know for a fact that we would get humped? Look at how we played against FC Basel to qualify for the Champions League. We didn't take our chances and played pretty crap then as well, but we went onto the UEFA Cup Final that year.

I'm not saying that THAT would happen this time but you can never predict how we'll play in any competition. We were expecting to steam-roller St Johnstone last Sunday and look what happened.

You never know - we will maybe expect to get steam-rollered ourselves in the Europa League and we could end up getting wins :56:
