Wonder what will happen with uefa approving the player list before the games?
I reckon the only thing sion will get is some compo!

    Latest news: http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/footba...to-overturn-celtic-s-reprieve-86908-23399904/

What reputed Swiss papers as the NZZ say:
    - UEFA justified the re-instatement of Celtic as follows:
    a) Sion did not respect the transfer ban handed out by FIFA
    b) Players went before Civil Court

Sion appealed against that decision yesterday at UEFA and will look out for provisional measures (reinstatement, suspending of the Atlético-Celtic game before) before Civil Courts.

The Arguments of Sion and its eight lawyers:
    a) UEFA has nothing to do with the transfer ban as this case is pending at the CAS
    b) Players are allowed to go before Civil Court as UEFA being based in Switzerland, they have to abide Swiss law
    c) The 12-page-paper is written in French even though the three UEFA committee members don't speak that language, so it must have been written in advance.

What Sports law expert Marco Del Fabro says in "Tages-Anzeiger" (another reputed paper, usually never defending Constantin):
    - FIFA rules allow Civil Courts when it comes to obtain provisional measures
    - It is astonishing that UEFA decided without waiting the final verdict of a case still pending at the CAS
    - He says Sion have good chances to win the case.

    Other lawyers say:
    - It is a problem that Platini made such comments on the case in advance as it questions the independency of UEFA's comittee.
    - It can be argued now that the CAS is biased by UEFA's decision, which is problematic as well.

To Celtic supporters who wonder when we will hear about the outcome of all this: I have no idea.

christ almighty this guy is an absolute lunatic, no wonder UEFA had no problem booting him and his club out!! not to mention the fact that they cheated their way into the europa league. UEFA will not look kindly on them booking flights and hotels, I don't see UEFA backing down to a silly wee club like Sion led by a mad man on an egotistical power trip

what part of "civil courts have no right to judge on football matters" (which FIFA/UEFA do) does this * not understand?

take a hike ya mad man

(just getting a picture in my head of sion turning up at madrids stadium and being refused entry!!! :56:)

The only shot they have here is that both UEFA & Sion are based in the same country.

Haven't CAS already ruled against Sion – confirming they broke the transfer embargo – once already?

I hope this gets 100% confirmed soon. I'm starting to get a little bit worried...

There is no way Uefa are going to re-instate Sion, i think they will end up paying them some type of compansation in the form of flights and hotels bills if that clown brings his team to Madrid :icon_mrgreen:. We werent good enough to go through preformance ways but then again one of the players in question scored 2 in the away leg. There chairman just seems to be a complete egoistic idiot who is just going to have egg on his face after this is all over. I really hope he brings them to Madrid just to be told to beat it or else pay in and watch the game, roll on 15th Hail Hail.

Does anyone know when the final decision is made one way or other. It is becoming a farce and is very unfair on fans from both clubs. Will also be quite unfair to Athletico as well if it isnt sorted soon as I cant imagine they will be keen on playing a different team with 24 hours notice. Come to think of it I bet Rennes will be unhappy as well if celtic go through having to play against two 2nd pot teams.

Utter farce. As soon as Sion played the players in the first leg UEFA should have made a decision the next day. Then regardless of the 2nd leg the decision would have been done and dusted by now

I am sure that UEFA won't change their mind, but it could be out of their hands if Sion take this to the courts.

I wouldn't be too worried if I were you, guys. It is still very unlikely that Celtic won't play this group stage. On the other hand, I wouldn't book Udinese flights if I were not a 100% sure either. As many of you said, our chairman is a lunatic. But he and his lawyers are capable of a lot of things that you couldn't even imagine.

Concerning one of the questions above: The CAS ruled on the fact that there actually was a transfer ban. Now they have to decide whether Sion already served the penalty or not. The current point is not even whether Sion are right or not. The issue is that UEFA intervened in a pending case. And normally, if a case is still pending, you cannot penalise someone until the verdict is here.

Although UEFA and FIFA headquarters are in Switzerland, they are the governing body for all football and football matters. Could you imagine the carnage if you could appeal to your local civil court regarding football matters. If FIFA and UEFA both say FC Sion can't take part in THEIR competition , they can. UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE. The name says it all.

I would suppose that celtic could go to a Scottish court and claim that Fifa banned players played on scottish soil where the swiss court has no jurisdiction. Uefa would have to award a 3-0 win for celtic and that would give us a 4-3 agg. Sion out!

That's what the Sion lawyers reproach to UEFA too. Instead of answering the first Celtic protest and clarifying the whole thing adter the first leg, they just seemed to hope for a Celtic win. What a bunch of amateurs.
