Everybody is tired of this, no need to recapitulate things over and over. Just one thing: If CAS decides in Sion's favour, it is over. If not, federal court will decide in the long run (probably in Sion's favour if cantonal justice does as well). Maybe UEFA comes up with some kind of solution in the near future. Would save them a lot of trouble.

I would agree though that Celtic won't be affected by anything that might come in the future.

So why did CONstantin buy them? Why did you play them? Btw: Mutsch is kinda HERO in Luxbg, so don´t say anything against him :icon_mrgreen::icon_mrgreen:

Constantin likes to buy Ferraris and elderly star players like Gabri and Feinduno. Must be some kind of fetish. Mostly, they stay for a year or two, show off their talent every fifth game and are injured the rest of the time. Then they leave for Dubai. The backbone of the team are Obradovic, Sio, Serey Die, the strong defense and the keeper. Sion's best performances this year were against the favorites Basel, Zurich and YB - without the 6 new players.

Mario Mutsch is, of course, one the greatest players to ever play in the Swiss League. I agree with that. :icon_mrgreen:

The point of the CAS is that it is binding. If it is binding on UEFA, then it is also binding on Sion. So if the CAS decides against Sion, then likewise it is over. But either way, as you say, Celtic are not going to be affected.

I feel sorry for Sion in all this, because in the end it's them who are going to suffer from Constantin's ill grace. If there's one thing we know for sure about FIFA and UEFA, what they punish harshest of all is clubs or associations trying to take football-related matters to the civil courts.

If the courts do force UEFA to pay compensation to Sion, what will happen is UEFA will say, "OK there is your 3 million (or whatever) - the issue of the ineligible players is now closed. Now we move on to the issue of taking a football dispute to the civil courts - which is expressly against UEFA rules. The punishment for this will be exclusion from our competitions for ten years. Now * off."

Unfair on the club, yes, but we all know what Blatter and his cronies are like. And if they allow clubs to question their decisions like this it opens up a huge, huge can of worms for them in the future. You can't have football competitions decided in the courts, and I think FIFA/UEFA will defend this principle by making an example of Sion.

No, I really can't see this happen either. Even if the court decides in our favour again and UEFA follows the court's decision, which is very very unlikely, Celtic will stay in. The highest high for Sion would be to get reinstated and play in a group of five, but this is very, very unrealistic with the competition already going on.

You are wrong. There is always the possibility to appeal a CAS verdict at the Swiss Federal Court. Many sportsmen from all over the world (cyclers, speed skaters etc.) have done that in the past. In most of the times, the verdict was upheld, but the Swiss Supreme Court has the final say on it. And then it becomes binding. German speed skater Claudia Pechstein for example was banned by the CAS for drug-taking. Then she was granted superprovisional measures by the Supreme Court and could run in a race in Salt Lake City. Afterwards however, the Federal Court backed the CAS decision. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claudia_Pechstein

:icon_mrgreen:. Let's put it this way: I think we would have beat Celtic without him, too.

Very interesting - I wasn't aware of that. It seems to raise the unsatisfactory problem that clubs based in Switzerland may effectively have a right of appeal to their own country's courts in a way that other clubs do not.

My money is still on UEFA bringing the hammer down. The two things they invariably crack down on are governments interfering with football associations, and associations or clubs attempting to try football issues in the civil courts. It threatens their wee power base and they don't like it.

    @Mikeybhoy

Cool down, mate! I more or less just posted the latest Swiss articles here and explained what they mean. And I always said whether it was a silly court or silly UEFA who told this or that. Of course, I'm somewhat biased for Sion, but then again, I never said Celtic should or will be booted out or sth like that. If I did, you gotta show me that post. And no, I didn't hack your website either.

To end this on a positive note, I read on one of our forums that the Sion fans in Madrid were applauded by the Celtic people in the stadium and had a real good time with them afterwards.

Edit: For those who are still interested in the whole thing, here's a good English article on it and an interview: http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/sport/Stakes_high_in_battle_between_FC_Sion_and_Uefa.html?cid=31154910

And good luck against the huns today.

Uefa's 53 national member associations have given their unanimous backing to the governing body over its decision to expel Sion from the Europa League.

Celtic were reinstated to the group stages when Sion were thrown out for naming five ineligible players in their play-off win over Neil Lennon's side.
The Swiss side have since been to their country's courts to argue their case.

But Uefa's members say a club refusing to accept the rules of the competition "should not participate in it".

Sion's legal challenge to Uefa's ruling is being viewed as a threat to its authority and that of the world governing body, Fifa.

Uefa's emergency panel last Tuesday dismissed a ruling from the district court in Vaud that Sion should be allowed back in the competition, from which they were thrown out on 2 September.

The European national associations call upon both Fifa and the Swiss FA to urgently take concrete steps to uphold the statutes and regulations of Fifa, as Uefa has done
Excerpt of statement by the 53 national associations of Uefa
Two days later the same court ruled that the opening round of Europa League Group I fixtures, including a 2-0 defeat for Celtic at Atletico Madrid, were invalid.

But in a statement released on Wednesday called "Declaration of the 53 Uefa member associations regarding the FC Sion case", the members have hit back at the Swiss club.

The statement said: "The 53 national associations of Uefa have today unanimously declared their support for Uefa president Michel Platini, the Uefa executive committee, the Uefa general secretary, the Uefa disciplinary bodies and the Uefa administration for their determination to uphold the statutes and regulations of football.

"The European national associations call upon both Fifa and the Swiss FA to urgently take concrete steps to uphold the statutes and regulations of Fifa, as Uefa has done.

"The independent sports justice system is the best guarantor of equality and fairness for all participants in sports.

"The European national associations declare that any member of the football family which refuses to accept the rules of the competition should not participate in it."

After Uefa's disciplinary body threw out Sion's initial appeal last week, the club announced it would initially seek compensation from Uefa of more than 4m euros and potentially tens of millions in the long term.
"Uefa believes that it rules the world," a Sion spokesman said at the time.

Belgian newspapers report that Sion have hired Belgian lawyer Dupont (who represented and advised Jean-Marc Bosman).

He draws the comparison with the Bosman ruling and states that sport federations are subject to civil law and claims that UEFA cannot ignore the Swiss court rulings.
