Can those that are slating Celtic fans please tell me why without hitting out with laboured cliches that mean absolutely nothing?

We were forced to hold a minutes silence against our will and we exercised our right to protest against it, which is the basis on which a democratic society is built. A democratic society that the men and women that died in WW1 fought to keep.

Again, yes, a vast majority of those people today probably don't even know who Aiden MacAnespie is never mind understand why they were singing it BUT the principle upon which they are singing is absolutely sound and there is no denying it. So slate the * up neds but don't slate those who took a morale stance against something. We are told that a football stadium is no place for political viewpoints to be aired then we are forcefed them and subsequently punished for not standing for it.

Shame on me? I have no shame whatsoever mate with regards to my view point.

Pay your respects but don't force me to wear a poppy or to do the same. The British Army I'm being told I have to respect is the same British Army that have murdered, in cold blood, innocent men and women all over the world and if people don't want to be silent for that then that is their perogative.

Like I said this is opening a massive can of worms I have no intention of opening but don't try and make me out to be a shameful and disrespectful person because I don't agree with you.

Hammer, I cannot understand why you think it is wrong to pay just one minute of respect to those who have died in war, whether it be those who were innocent and died at home or those who were out on the front line defending their country from fascism.
We should all be thankful that every night we go to sleep there are men and women out there fighting for us and puting their lives at risk so that we will wake up in the morning.

Please keep invididual accusations out of this thread mate.

Everyone has a right to give a personal viewpoint. By all means argue your case, which I know you can eloquently! :celt_2:

aye but its always about them isnt it. Never anyone else. The poor wee victim mentality riddled * stains. Wallowing in others sufferings that they have not suffered themselves just so they can feel like victims. A victim mentality suits neds so they can explain away all their own failings as down to sectarianism etc. Well, I have news for these wasters. Plenty from the same backgrounds have done fine for themselves. They chose to see this as somehow commemorating the 500 soldiers killed in Northern Ireland when in fact for most is commemorating the couple of million British and commonwealth soldiers killed in the 2 wars. The world wars make up about 99.9% (literally) of the fallen being commemorated. The soldiers in Northern Ireland are something like 0.02% of the fallen. Yet these knuckle draggers still treat this as though this is all about Ireland. Its not all about ficking Ireland! Change the fking record.

to be honest that song is fair comment to those who disrupted things today. You cant sit living off a state and at the same time show contempt for one of its most sacred traditions and the wishes of the hyge majority of the citizens. It doesnt look likely that Scotland will leave the UK in our lifetimes so they need to decide if they want to be UK citizens or not. If they dont have any respect for the vast majority of the peoples wishes then they should leave. They are the sort who will bang on about majoritys meaning there should be a united Ireland but they have no respect for the majority wishes in Scotland and Britain.

i accept that is a bit of a Catch 22 but i would say that respecting the WWII dead is beyond the political. i dont think theres anything particulary "moral" about chanting to disrupt a silence that to me anyway has always been about simply acknowledging those who died to defend our own democratic society (well, such as it is these days!); i feel very strongly about this i had relatives who died in the war so i dont think its asking a lot for people to keep schtum for 1 minute on 1 * day of the year regardless of your poltical stance; i hate the idea of some * up little plastic Irish ned from Scotland disrespecting the sacrifice people such as my realtives made; that may be a "laboured cliche" but at the end of the day i dont think its asking much

and roys keane, i tend to agree with you, to me it didnt seem too bad at the time and i could tell coz the pub i was in actually held the silence at the same time too; it could be some hun has mocked up a vid and posted it on here hoping to get us all talking about it and then some hun journo will jump on it; perhaps we should shut the * up and lock this thread lol

and focus on that dire performance.....

What you're basically saying there is that it's okay for them to sing during a minutes silence.
Glasgow Celtic Football Club is a Scottish team.
Glasgow Celtic Football Club play in Scotland.
    Scotland is part of Britain.
Britain have an army called the British Army.
They have helped to protect Britain from invasion, therefore protecting invasion of our beloved paradise which is located in Britain.
So surely we should respect them?

Do you think doing it during the silence is an appropriate time? Everyone in the stadium was silent up untill the point.

very good point. The big day to commemorate the anti-facists who actually fought against facism and paid the ultimate price was disrupted by people (well neddy scum) whose own main creed like the Fascsts is rabid nationalism (even if it is dressed it up left wing you cant polish a *).

Ok, sorry perhaps i came across as being quite ignorant there, but i still don't think today was the right day to protest as all it does is generate anger between both sides. You don't have to like or respect the British Army but for that 1 minute i don't see the harm in just staying quiet and keeping the thoughts to yourself. Many soldiers from the British Army have been killed in cold blood fighting facism and don't most celtic fans pride themselves in being anti-fascist, anyway im probally coming across as ignorant again so i'll stop but it's just this is something that i feel very strongly about.

If the fans were outside the stadium then I have no problem with them singing, whether you agree with them or not they have a right to protest, however, if they were in the stadium they should have respected the silence imo as that wouldn't have been the time or place to protest.

I'm not basically saying anything and you're making up incorrect assumptions. I'm not saying stop a minutes silence because we're an Irish club and not British, I'm saying don't try and shame something which in principle is perfectly fine. You cannot force anyone to pay respects to an organisation that have a history of brutal bloodshed simply because the government told them to do it which made it legal. I am aware the silence is for those brave men and women that lost their lives protecting the freedoms we all enjoy but I'm also aware that there are members of the British Army that have taken tens of thousands of innocent lives as well and that is a fact.

On top of all that I'm not stupid as I have said twice already and I know the people singing Aiden MacAnespie probably don't even know who he is and were most probably drunk on Buckfast whilst they were singing it.

that is splitting hairs. Scum just outside knew that making a noise against a backdrop of a silence would be very audible. Whether they had crossed the turnstiles doesnt alter the self important ignorant charachter of the people who were showing disrespect based largley on pure ignorance of the issue in detail and a basic neddy love of going GIRFUK to get their jollys.

well they must have a very poor sense of irony when they are distrpting remembrance of the men who gave them that freedom with their lives.

    * off about this, just gives us a bad reputation. If they don't agree then they should still have respected the minute's silence.

Those men lost their lives so groups of people had the right to voice their opinion gunt and not be forced to do things against their will ruled by a * state. There's more irony.

At the end of the day it may be democratic and it might be what we fought to keep in ww2 but that doesn't mean that you can then go and disrespect those people.
