To be honest I think we can do better just now. I do like Stokes and don't think he deserves a slagging because he is a good talent and a proven SPL striker but for me at this moment we would just ruin yet another players career. If he stays at hibs for maybe another 2-3 seasons and gets better, gets a wee bit of euro experience at hibs then am all for signing him for the right price.

they would be a better squad than we have
as none of the squad players we have can turn games
i am sure they would help in tight games breaking down defense's

Stokes did nothing against us on Sunday. Idon't remember him being threatening anyway. The only player who bothered us seemed to be Nish, and all he did was bully us.

Mehdi Taoul is just a showpony. If people complain about McGeady being poor - this guy is far worse.

    I dont rate Stokes

Midtable SPL is his level. He failed to make an impact in the Championship with Sunderland, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace. The only manager he's ever performed for is John Hughes for some reason.

Nope, not for me I just don't particularly rate him despite his obvious ability to score in the SPL I just don't rate him and think we could get better.

Riordan and Killen both came with great scoring records and look what happened to him...all three players are good finishers but don't have enough about them to play for Celtic...

McDonald who's all round game was far better than any of these three was a success and improved his finishing whilst playing for us i reckon fletcher would be the same

    I am torn.

He has done well for his fairly lightweight but creative Hibs side. I describe them as lightweight because when you look at them with the exception of Nish and their Centrebacks they don't break 6 foot. I am unsure if he can move up to a higher level. Odds are that he can as he is still extremely young. Everyone wants the complete player at 21 like Messi and Ronaldo 9, but the likes of Zamorra, Dempsey (who has developed into one of the best midfielder outside the top 4), Robson, etc... show that many good players will get to their peak in their mid twenties.

I also think Rassy is adequate for the poacher role with Sheridan or McGowan as backup.

He'd be a good signing, big Tim (despite turning us down, he must regret it) and I think we'd get him for less than 2m.

    Just can't get enough!
The boats out, but to be fair on the lad, going to Celtic under WGS would have ruined him anyway!

if he scores goals that what we need in our side he might get more chances to score you have to look at the overall players ability that he can get in the box,
i think then again the problem with our team is the midfield service and they are not scoring enough thas is why taouil could give you more service than brown at present all other teams have better midfielders than we have going forward and it is showing every week and as for corrners they are only time wasters for us sick of the site of looking at them a big O from them

I agree with that and if how you do in the championship is any indicator of whether you can step up from Hibs level to Celtic then Killen, Skippy etc have done far better in their short stint than Stokes. Another issue I have with him is he looks lumbering and a lot of his goals rely on bad defender error. can see why he failed even at championship level. I think banging in the goals in the SPL for a smaller team tells you a lot less about how good they are than their performace in England because we have experience of Hibs level goal machines failing at Celtic. Not a patch on a young Skippy who was bursting with good qualities when we took him from Motherwell.

I think the benchmark is does a striker look as good as skippy and I am afriad Stokes looks nothing like as good as Skippy either with us or in his Motherwell days. Skippy when he was fit and on form was at a level I do not think we will easily replace without spending 4 or 5 million. At his best he would do well in a bottom half EPL side IMO. He was sold too cheap at a stupid time to sell when his stock had temporarily dipped a bit. His real value was at least 1.5 million more than that i.e. about 5 million and its likely that is what we will have to find to replace him. At best SPL players are a punt with a 1 in 3 success rate. We need to be aiming a lot higher.

As for Fletcher, he has a touch of class about him and has proven he can look decent and even score a few in a poor EPL side but as Hammer noted we seem to be collecting forwards who are not natural goal scorers. A good player but the priority is a natural mobile goal sniffer.

Good point and against some of our most inexperienced out and out rookie CBs. If the truth be told that big octopus Rankin?? was a lot more prominant than Stokes. Not a great player but he bullied OD badly. I have a feeling Rass would be a notch higher than Stokes as a fairly big target man with a sniff for goal. I think we need more of a Skippy/Keane type player who is a mobile nippy poacher who can bamboosle big lumps of CHs. To be honest I think we need to sign 2 more proper CFs and I would be happy to see the back of Fortune who I think flatters to decieve like few other players.

Riordan and Killen would have both scored goals if they played every week for Celtic. It just so happened that Jan and Skippy were the highest goalscoring pairing in British football when both were here for a period of time.

I'm not saying rush out and get Stokes and he is the answer, all I'm saying is he scores far more in the SPL than Fletcher ever did and he would be my choice over him. It's not as easy as this either but if you added another 20 to 25 goals to us this season then we'd be fighting for the title and not 2nd place just as much as the huns losing Boyd would have destroyed their season.

Id say no if im honest I mean no disrespect to him maybe as a squad player he could do a job and he does have good pace but is he better than what we have ? I would say no to that and as for riordan i dont believe he would score a lot of goals and neither does lennon and when riordan was here or just left lennon said yes he can do great things but he never does it consistantly just like paddy mcourt and others before them
