definately, brilliant player.. you have to remember the guy is still only 21, at 18 everyone was raving about him, alot of big clubs were looking him but he went a bit of the railings there, went down the rockstar route for a while but you can see that now he is commited to developing himself to the best of his ability.. what is it, 20 goals or something for hibs, thats a cracking tally for a team like hibs..

in my opinion get him signed up before its too late along with big sol bamba from hibs aswell..:50:

From what I have heard from a friend of mine who is close to the board at Sunderland. Stokes is a bad drinker. He likes a swally as much as George Best. Im not sure if thats the type of player we need. That is why Keano did not play him when he signed him.

I think he is a good goal scorer and would help replace the goals that Keane scores but Im worried about his personal side of life. Could he control his drinking?

I do think that he would bag us 30 a season but again think i would leave him at hibs and look elsewhere

An Alchie that would bag us 30 goals a season, get him onboard....

    Bit far I think matey!

Stokes is a good player, and also might be the level of player we are looking to sign now.

Think we may have been spoiled a little with Keane, and this may be the downside to having him for 5 months, when we actually sign a new striker.

This is the one player I can certainly tell you about, from Sunderland myself I spent my day off glued to skysports when we was going to sign for Sunderland from Arsenal (had been out on loan at Falkirk and banged the goals in) and was delighted when he signed, Arsenal dont let a good player go and that proved to be the case, couldnt do it in the championship, I went to every game that season home and away and the lad simply couldnt do it, 36 games and only 3 goals, was played up front alot of the time, loaned out to Sheffield United and Palace where he managed one goal out of 25 games between these teams. Was often in the glass spider (a nightclub in Sunderland) and had a lot of trouble with Keane who was our manager then, Stokes has a reputation as a big drinker, however the facts cant lie and he is a proven goalscorer in the spl and has proved that again by scoring for Hibs 18 times this season, I understand the days of us signing quality players from the prem are over but surely we can do better than a player incapable of scoring in the championship?

At only 21 and banging in goals for fun.....i can see no reason why he would not fit in somewhere along the lines. We are spoilt having keane scoring for fun at the moment but when he is gone then can we say we have any prolific goal scorer to hit teams where it hurts? Sammy now seems to be playing wide roles along with fortune so other than rasmussen i don't see many prolific goal scorers to choose from for next season. Hibs were lucky to get Stokes so cheaply to be honest. As for a possible drinking problem....i wouldn't care less if he drank 10 pints a day, smoked 60 * and shagged sheep in his spare time as long as he scored goals for us

I like Anthony Stokes. He is a proven goalscorer and predator here in the SPL.He has scored twenty goals already in the SPL, and he is Celtic daft.

Get him signed for us next year and he would replace Robbie Keane who
is bound to go back south in the summer.

Kind of reminds me of Scott Mcdonald . . . Get him signed. If he can score 20 goals for hibs then i'm sure he will get atleast that for us!

Stokes had a chance to sign for WGS, but opted to go down south. Fck him. Let him score for Hibs, cos it wont be in a cup final or top-of-the-table clash. Go get John Sutton.

That is my thoughts too. There are players who can score goals in the SPL (many of the teams being very weak) but fail in the championship and will not be up to playing for the Old Firm. The championship s full of the better ex-SPL players who were not wanted by the OF. In fact the best non-OF SPL players do quite well in the champonship and even in the yo-yo teams that get the odd season in the EPL.

However, some of these SPL players get badly found out even at championship level, O'Dea and Stokes being a couple of them. Many SPL players who are excellent for Hibs,Dundee United etc flop at the OF too. For every Skippy and Robson you get several good SPL players who do not make it at the OF or in the champiionship. I personally think it is clear that Stokes has a ceiling similar to O'Dea-good enough for a smaller SPL side but cant make it in the championship and likely to not cut the mustard with us.

We have tried Hibs level players many many times before, guys who are outstanding for smaller SPL teams but so many fail-Riordan, Killen etc. The latter were also goals machines for Hibs but in reality that was their ceiling. Killen has actually done well at Boro which tells you all you need to know about Stokes and players who floped at that level in England. Failure in the championship is pretty damning when you think that Robson, Skippy, Mick. Killen, Flood etc are considered to have really improved Middlesbrough since the came in in the January window. Middlesborough are a top third side in the championship so its clear modest players can do well there. That is pretty damning for players who completely fail there.

Hibs collect damaged good players with some talent but attitude issues and problems like Riordan, Miller and Stokes. They only take them because its the only way they can afford players of even that level. We do not need to go down the road of problem players, serial failures etc with often alleged attitude/lifestye issues.
