Maybe him and Griffiths can form a good partnership but at the moment he seems a bit lost.

Give him a chance to play with Griffiths, if he is still not cutting it, drop him and sell him.

There's no way he didn't know Derk was near him. As somebody said, do you think Stokes expected Boerrigter just to win the ball and stay at the halfway line? Of course he's going to run charge forward in support.

If not, Stokes must be extremely thick and blind.

No, not just that one mistake, but because he was breathing out of his * and as soon as he got the ball was just shooting from anywhere, rather than creating anything.

If you can;t see him and he doesn't shout, are you going to pass the ball square to no * and look an even bigger *?

Why are you so quick to dismiss Stokes' version of events?

Because of the circumstances. Derk won the ball and they were right next to each other at the halfway line. As I said, Stokes must be pretty stupid to expect Derk just to hang about at the halfway line when there's a real possibility of a goal.

Think he's just trying to make excuses with that tweet.

Unless Derk was screaming at him then he just can't expect him to be there, he needs some kind of shout. Especially since they both haven't played a whole lot together so Stokes wont be aware of the type of player he is. He could have been running round the back of Stokes for all he knew. Passing into a space where you aren't 100% sure there is player is lunacy, he would be getting * slaughtered on here if he done that and no one was there.

pity he went on and made a * * of it though. :smiley-laughing002:

I just don't see Stokes saying that without it being acknowledged in the dressing room first.

its ludicrous that he should come back from a suspension and just walk straight into the team, as if he's a stick on, when he's really actually quite mediocre

He's done a * of a lot more in a Celtic shirt than any of our other strikers.

considering Derk has been injured most of the season then I'm going to guess they haven't trained a whole lot together.

Yes. Unless you count Commons as a striker.

Good players work out how others play reasonably quickly. Johansen hasn't trained alot with this group and he knew where his team mates were all day long.

A helluva lot more? As a striker he's been * as has Pukki. Balde looks more direct than either although that's not saying much. It's a sad day when Griffiths should walk straight into a Celtic side as our main striker. In saying that the team is still getting the goals despite the poor forwards at our club

He's still done a * of a lot more than Balde. That might not be Baldes' fault but it's still true.

I dont think he should, I still think he's playing quite well or similar to how he always has. It's just without a striker to play off hes not scoring as much as he used to but his overall play in the build up and assisting goals or linking play is the same as its always been which is his main addition to the team.

Same with Pukki, Pukki is similar to Stokes and they both do well when they play but fans want them to be the main goalscorer but its not how they play. They will never be 30 a season goalscorers. They are 15-20 a season goalscorers and 10-15 a season assisters who link play around and outside the box.

The only striker we have is Balde who cant play because he cant link play and offers little around the box, if we played him up front Commons and Forrest would need to start doing a lot more and we'd become more one dimensional.

As it is the now we play quite freely with Stokes, Forrest, Commons, Mulgrew, Izaguirre and when Matthews/Lustig are player all allowed to get forward out roam a bit and mix things up.

For the last while its been out of Pukki or Stokes to lead the line, neither is ideal since its not their natural role but out the two Stokes is proven to be the more creative and better scorer so far. Griffiths might get a chance now, he's similar but more of a natural striker than them although Griffiths I imagine wont link the play or be as clever as Pukki or Stokes so it will be interesting to see if Commons and Griffiths can click as well as Commons has done with Stokes or Pukki.

How many goals has Stokes scored this season compared to Balde? Given that Stokes will have had at least 10 times more playing time. Stokes is a decent link up man and passes reasonably well, but never should be anywhere near being our main striker.
