No, we should let our 2nd best striker leave for free
Defo give him a new contract. We will always need him for the SPL and sadly Hooper won't be here forever.

I dont see any sense in letting him go for free. He is still good enough to contribute to the team and to replace him we would likely have to spend a couple of million. I wouldnt mind if we sold him, but I dont think we should let him go for nothing

    Laughable.

As much as I want us to sign Russell as well, how is he better than Stokes? Yet to prove his talent on a bigger stage.

    And why not have both?

not much of a celtic fan to knock us back for sunderland though i guess folks are allowed to make mistakes though, but theres nothing silly at all about it to mention it when folk are continually stating he's a celtic fan

He probably went for the money. He's realised where he's better off now though and I don't think he'll leave unless we push him out.

I think he's referring to the rumours that Stokes is pals with the top dogs in the IRA.

    Yeah, I was.

I don't wish to knock Stokes. I don't know him personally, and I really like him as a player, so ... all I know is what I've heard and read.

I'm amazed other clubs haven't showed public interest in him.

Russell can play wide as well as he has the pace to go past players and track back. Stokes is striker and that's all you're gonna get from him. There will be many other front men out there willing to sign for us instead.

Think that has been put to bed long ago, here are the FACTS
He never knocked back Celtic , as you put it

He wanted to sign for Celtic at time and would have, except that Celtic FC left it until the last day before he was to sign for Sunderland to even contact him or his agent , Stokes was back in London at that time drove up to Glasgow the same day (Saturday) thinking he was signing. Two things happned one they made the sort of offer that said they did not fancy him and would have made him the lowest paid player in Celtic.

That was not a problem for Stokes he still wanted to sign, againgst his agents advice. What stopped him signing was Gordon Strachan came into the room spoke to Stokes for less than five mins. What he said was that he had seven strikers and Stokes would be bottom of that list and there was no guarentee to would get any time of the pitch. Strachan made no attempt to allow Stokes to think he was wanted.

At that time there was another player signed from hibs that never really gat a chance so it looked in all possiblity that Stokes was signing to sit on the bench. Now you can believe this or not, and it will suit some people not to. You can take it from me that the above is 100% fact. I know he was very disapponted on the drive back to london this was a very young player that most Saturdays he travelled by train with another Irish player from London to see Celtic Play. So dont ever tell me he is not a fan of Celtic with loyalty to the club which exceeds most fans I know.

I don't think there is any coherent argument to back up saying no on this one.

What would you define as "celtic standard"? We do play in the SPL incase you have forgotten so having a player who is a quality SPL player and will get you goals in it is not a bad thing. There is no reason why we should not offer him a new contract. He scores goals and also sets them up not to mention the fact he has a fantastic partnership with Hooper.

To let a striker leave for free, who will get you at least 15-20 goals a season, probably more if fully on form, would be utter madness.

Plus, if Hooper does leave in the summer I would feel alot comfortable having Stokes around.
