If they do well, why does it matter if they're foreign or british

I actually think that British players would get the league warped up quicker but European players will get us further and better in europe so as long as the huns are * we should go with European players

I feel we should endeavour to have a first team made of players from within a thirty mile radius of Glasgow. ..and one Swede.

British market is ridiculously inflated, look at some of the prices championship players are bought for, it's unheard of in lower divisions in other coutries.

If we can't fill our team from our youth system, I would rather see us look abroad where there is more value.

There are obviously exceptions to the rule where you can pick up out-of -contract players, circa - Ledley, Wilson, Matthews.

I didn't. I also put an example of how we shouldn't generalise markets by using Doyle. Of course we shouldn't generalise a market. But I simply made the point that due to the money in English football nowadays, clubs are willing to charge much higher transfer fees than for the same calibre of player in an Eastern European league for example due to their money. That's not to say we won't get a cheap gem in England - Forster and Hooper are great examples of that, and we can and should still be buying players from there should their transfer fee and wages be reasonable.

We should only sign Anglo-Saxon imperialists and Zionists.

You used Doyle as an example to back up your original post that the English market was overpriced.

There are bargains to be found everywhere. We shouldn't, like your first post suggests, overlook the English market. when looking for players.

Donati and Ki were successful signings. Biton, Balde and Pukki can't be judged yet.

I would say that Van Dijk, Ambrose, Lustig, Izzy, Kayal, Boruc, Nakamura, JVoH and the like more than make up for the ones that don't settle and that's not mentioning Lubo, Mjallby and Larsson.

Some of the * we've spent money on in the last few years could have been saved by giving a chance to young players or buying cheaper Scottish players from the SPL. Most of your big signings will be foreign but a team like ours should have a good few academy graduates in it.

    Hooper > Bangura

    Wanyama > Flood

Ethnic background doesn't tell us much, if anything, about how a player will settle here.

Our best bet is to keep our recruitment model focused on signing good players whether we find them on our doorstep or under a stone in Honduras.

I think we should be giving our youth players a chance.

I think we'd be best served bringing players through our youth academy (Scottish, Irish, English, Welsh, mostly, but we're bringing through great foreign prospects like Atajić) and supplementing them with talent from all over the world.

The English market is definitely over-inflated but I think we should try to cash in on some of the talent already within our league system; we can cherry-pick the best players in Scotland for peanuts. I know people say that weakens Scottish football but the players end up in England anyway. It's something that Porto & Ajax excel at. I know the Primeira Liga and the Eredivisie are of a higher standard than the Scottish Premiership but there're definitely some exciting prospects in Scottish football, if only a few at present, and the number looks to be on the up.

I think you definitely get more bang for your buck in undertapped markets. I'd like to see us focus on Eastern European markets (1. HNL, Ekstraklasa, etc.). Maybe Belgium, as well - obviously, it's under the spotlight at the minute with the players Belgian clubs are producing but there might be some who get through the net. From a purely marketing perspective, bringing in a few players from the US and the Far East wouldn't be the worst bit of business if they're good enough.

As a rule, I'd stay clear of the English market, although we picked up Forster, Wilson, Matthews, Ledley, Commons and Hooper for ~£5m, all in, so there are obvious exceptions.

£8m for Jordan Rhodes, a then League 1 player, is why our attentions are best focused elsewhere.

On the other side of the coin. A smaller club like Dundee Utd are rearing their own Scottish talent. And other clubs down south and abroad are sitting up and taking notice. But we are not like United we need to hold on to our youngsters and nurture them for first team action. And maybe sell them on 2-3 seasons down the line. Like Porto or Ajax!
