but we need quality midfielders to be able to feed the strikers and a defence that will keep the score line in our favour, keane is only one guy, why break the bank for one guy if the rest of the team is mince?:shamrock:

I read somewhere it would cost Celtic in the region of 11 million pounds to secure Keane and then we would have * all sell on fee as he'd be too old,if he was 23 wouldnt think twice about it,think though Celtic will have a few more of these type of deals happen, a lot of these clubs with the money cannot guarantee there stars first team football everyweek its unfortunate but still possible, also think older players such as a Ryan Giggs could be on the cards, partially because loads of mancs would buy the shirts and he even at an old age would generate extra interest in the SPL

Dont understand why we can't sign keane on a perm basis? we payed 4 million for scott brown and he must be on around 25-20 grand a week. if we were going to be spending 4m on a decent striker in the summer sell brown who hasnt cut it! put the money together to bring in keane. £8m on £60,000 a week. Bring in someone who has proven quality and is at his peak, rather than take a risk buying from the championship or europe, or a washed up prem star
Surely with the money dermott has he can afford to put his hand in his pocket and make this signing happen anyway.
It's about time the celtic board speculated a little to ensure we have success in the long term. Balancing the bank sheets is one thing but if it doesnt run aside success on the field then the people that matter the most, the fans, will start to wonder just why the are forking out "x" amount each year to watch us finish second against the worst rangers team i can remember.
We wouldn't be in this position just now if we had signed fletcher from hibs in january last year and won 4 i n a row. The huns would be on their knees, instead they are now recovering most of their debt thanks to playing in the champions league, at our expense!

C'mon dermott "lets be havin yi!" lol

your right but we would have a greater chance of european football for the next four or five years so thats potentially 50 mill then there shirt sales he would be first choice for being captain and would be great to have on the training ground as the young players could learn from a player like him. Also if he was 23 it would cost more than 11 million for him.

    Jesus christ guys

If we had £50M to spend, keane would still not come to Scotland on a permanent basis to play his football.

People on here are saying: We shouldnt juts blow our whole £11M on one player, we should juts sign him etc....

He wouldnt come and play in this country on a perm basis... REGARDLESS!

DD is a really smart guy and in this current climate hes not going to waste his own money ,When you have as much money as him all it is is numbers and its very easy to loose all them numbers and end up with nothing .You just have to look at the richest man in ireland ffs hes just went into adminstration, all them numbers up in smoke

    Heres the Thing!!!!!

Just for talking sake... We have the Money, we make an offer, Spurs accept it....

Would Robbie come to Celtic on a permanent transfer ... NOOOOOOOO!

There is no point in debating a point that regardless of funds being available, the major stumbling block would be Keanes non interest playing in Scotland.

Who is playing then in that Celtic jersey every week ,it cant be Robbie Keane because of his non interest of playing in Scotland.

He came for 5 months on loan to get game time.

Has said on multiple occasions that he will go back down south.

With some of the games he has played in, stadiums, attendances, opposition, league etc....

Are you honestly telling me he would like to sign ful time for Celtic (As I stated previous - Full Time - Permanent Contract)

    ???

So your telling me celtic are being used by robbie keane?
    Surely this cant be right?

The guy has made enough money out of the game, if he was as celtic minded as most of the people on these sorts of forums are he would want to play for the 1 and only club that really means anything to him? Try cement your name in celtics history books as one of the greats?
We will see what noises get made about this at the end of the season from Mr Lawell as this is a totally pointless signing in my book, Unless we can keep him longer.

    Your a wrong un !!! :50:

I dont think he is using Celtic at all, probably the other way around if anything, bums on seats etc...

And your romantic spiel there regarding wanting to play for the 1 and only club etc.... lol

If most of us were at Celtic, and an ELP club came in, most would go, as has many "Celtic Minded" players in the past and will Aiden Mcgeady if offered...

If celtic managed to get me anywhere near as much money as an epl club could give me then I would no doubt stay.

But that only applys because I really am a celtic fan. :50:

The fact of the matter is, we are all celtic fans on here.

But as a career move, most would like to try themselves if good enough against the best. Guys like McGeady, Celtic blood running through him will jump at the chance if or when it arrises, and I would probably say he is as much if not more a Celtic man than yourself.

Guys have done it for years, McAvennie etc...

Bright lights are strong in England mate, and if you are good enough, Celtic is simply a stepping stone for better things, and no matter what way its put, its the way it is... Celtic minded/fan or otherwise...

    Thats the reality!

If we are talking about keane who has done it at the top level for years now then IF he is a celtic man then he could not turn us down, he's been in the premiership seen it and done it so if he get more or less the same wages then he shouldn't turn us down. (iF HE IS A CELTIC MAN.)

This isnt a thread to show how celtic minded we are mate, the reality shows the opposite, and if you were a footballer and good enough to play in arguably the best leagues in the world, for the biggest clubs, you would maybe think different.

The reality is that Celtic play in a country where the conditions are equivilent to that of a lower english league, and thats the fact, so as a realistic down to earth celtic fan, i totally understand why people dont come and play for celtic, its not the club, its the conditions we play in.

    THE SPL

    Ohh My *

So you are saying, for the twilight of his career, he should drastically lower his expectation levels, his ambitions, and his general working enviroment, and come play in the spl?

Your obviously on the windup here mate (as a celtic man)
