Agree unfortunately as Rogers will make his point again with both Japanese players will be nowhere to be seen and really getting fed up what's going on within the club heads need to be hit together or they could be a title challenge this season but shouldn't be the case if we were doing our recruitment properly.

Maybe rodgers should just use the players we signed for him. His choices were expensive pish anyway.

Could be a multitude of reasons. Guy has just moved across the globe to come here. Players take time to settle. Game was sitting at 0-0 maybe Brendan thought it was unfair throwing him in to our first competive game with the score level knowing dropped points wouldn't be acceptable. Why was our best player last season "talented and fast as *?"

I agree Brendan might be using him as a weapon against the board however. But after 1 game we can't tell either way.

What's strange about that? Ange had already managed Daizen for example. Everyone is different. Brendan chose not to play Yamada, I was only offering some suggestions as to why that might be. Daizen was wildly inconsistent when he arrived. They're not all identical just because they come from the same county.

    Yep

    Nawrocki the second

Ability doesn't matter when there's an opportunity to continue his feud with the board or ability doesn't matter when there's an Irishman who plays the same position.

    There's 2 competing with Yamada so he's totally *

He's right though. Let's be honest, Rodgers signings have mostly been overpriced and underwhelming. He has a track record of it and so it's proven again. Schmeichel and Tierney aside (two no-brainers he'd managed before), his big signings have been Idah, Engels, Trusty. Even other big signings which likely weren't "his" have been disappointments: Palma, Lagerbielke, Nawrocki. All in all recruitment has been horrendous across his tenure. It's no coincidence the core of the team is still Ange's signings.

I kind of understand Kenny over Yamada. What I can’t understand is Inamura not even being on the bench!! After how he’s been pre-season that’s a joke. Especially when Rodgers knew Tierney would come off at some point.

Let give them a month to settle in and get used to country and get used to way we play.

How do you know Engels and Trusty were Rodgers singings? I think Rodgers has had very little input in transfers, Tierney, Schmeichel are probably his deals alright. He probably pushed for Idah permanently also but I don't know how instrumental he was in loaning him, he has said himself he doesn't really get involved in the deals.

Fully agree. Let's see if they are any use first. People have their biases on players and nationalities, we have 22 year old Johnny Kenny getting his career completely written off after 166 minutes of competitive football for Celtic where he scored on his only start and 25 year old Yamada being hailed as our starting striker after 45 minutes of friendly action.

He said he doesn't get involved in the actual deal, but has the final say on transfers...

    Its a collective failure..

Although much like the boardroom it's very difficult to know exactly what goes on.. however, I do feel Rodgers really only knows the market in England

We have sort of DoF in Tilsdale and Rodgers is a kinda hybrid between a manager and head coach, with the board unwilling to cede enough control to either.. its part of the problem with our structure.. half-arsed..

Rodgers just approves the targets so? So its not as if he approached the board and said I want Engels or I want Trusty. It's more a process of our recruitment team saying they can think a certain player has the profile he is looking for, will he take him? So this applies to any player we bid for? Were Trusty or Engels the first choice signings last season or were they ones we had to settle on as the window drew close?

Yamada is only being talked up because he is not Idah or Kenny. I dont think peoples expectations were particularly high when he signed, rather our current options are viewed as particularly bad.

I think we will start Idah vs Aberdeen as no issues with that. Kenny was set to go to Bolton for a million quid - he isnt the answer to anything.

I don't think Kenny is the answer either but it's the theme I keep hitting on, the raw deal the Irish/Scottish lads get. Kenny is 22 years old and has played 166 minutes for Celtic, scoring on his only start. He is rubbish and will never make it seems to be the consensus, meanwhile Yamada who is 25 years old, off the back of a very poor season in Japan by all accounts and people want him starting this week on the basis of a 45 minute friendly outing. I could remind people that less that 12 months ago Kenny was one of the top scorers in a European football competition. Yamada got one half of football in 3 games in a 3rd string Japanese squad less than a few weeks ago. He certainly has some good attributes but I have no idea where some of the expectations from certain fans has came from.

    Again, it's difficult to know..

But, if Rodgers is saying he has the last say he needs to take his share of responsibility for the ones that haven't worked out, as well as the successful ones.

He is operating within in a broken structure tho.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. We're not doing the manager much favours if we leave all our major business until we are in the final week of the window aided with the fact that we don't seem willing to pay market rates for some of our first choice targets.
