Goalie is surely the one outstanding weak position to be filled.

Given would be an amazing solution to this problem.

If Man City are willing to let him go at least on loan I would like to believe Celtic are in pole position for his signature. Like Bellamy, can't see Given going to a rival, aka Arsenal.

Therefore hoping Given has unfinished business at Celtic and seeks a return.

The biggest obstacle imo will be whether Man City will be willing to let him go.

Sky Sports News have just reported that Mancini has said that Given can leave the club if he is unhappy.

As he looks likely to be No. 2 at City, now is surely the time to make a move to loan him for the season.

I am sure a loan deal similar to the one Celtic had agreed with City for Bellamy will seal the deal.

In this case as long as Given is willing, Celtic must be favourites.

Return to Paradise, Shay, and help us win some trophies. :50:

Here's my question...how much do you think Shay Given would cost? From the look of things Joe Hart is going to be the number 1 keeper for a long time and I'm sure Man City could buy a suitable backup with a snap of there fingers. They only bought Given for around 6 mill and I doubt they would expect more than that now. He's 34 and could still play 4 or 5 more years at the top flight. So why not try and buy him and instead of fixing our goalkeeper situation for one year we could get rid of the problem for a few years.

It's not just the transfer fee but the salary he would demand.

I'd prefer we went for Westwood.

if hes as big a celtic fan that he makes out to be.. he'd take a drop in wages to play for us.

Its that simple. Footballers these days .. have no idea how gd they have it.

    Aye very good! :icon_mrgreen:

Now think of the cost to Celtic if we were to buy him and then pay him for the next 3 or 4 years.

Obviously math wasn't your strong point. But hey, you hang on in there. :bbpd:

Yes it does Jamesy, and there's nobody would like to see Given here more than me. We just can't afford to buy him outright. It would be too much of a drain on what Lenny could spend every season.

As I see it the best option is to get him on a 1 year loan for a small fee with City picking up some of his wages. We can then use that time to look for a suitable keeper or maybe City would free him at the end of his loan spell and at 35 he would drop his wage demands considerably.

Would love to see Shay come on loan . Have to say I'm a lot more confident we'll get him than I was about Bellamy:50:

I would like to see Shay at the hoops

But he is a shot stopper which is fab but suffers a bit of lack of dominance and commanding the box

But in saying that too overall celtic aint that good at commanding that last area of defence too well :)

I really think David James would have been ideal and wee Zalus would have come on well from his experience

Have my doubts we will get a hold of Shay though

Given would still cost £8m EASY.....along with about £60,000 wages a week!

Loan is the only option of him coming here..other than that it looks ike Westwood(next ROI no.1) or Julian Boloni....oops i mean Speroni:rolleyes:
