Shay Given would relish chance to join Celtic

nope dont fancy his age or money we would have to pay for him or his wages

whats david marshall doing these days i remember him playing for cardiff not so long ago and playing for scotland

he was a promising goalkeeper when he was younger i remember him earning us a draw against barcelona when he was a young bhoy over in the neu camp, at least i think that was the draw game where hartson scored

and a game against rangers at ibrox he was superb

he wouldn't cost the same and his wages wouldn't be rediculous or even a new upcoming young keeper

 

He would be a fantastic signing in my opinion, come on lenny, get it drummed into the board that we need a top class, permanent and reliable goalkeeper! Shay is our man :icon_mrgreen:

 

Yes some of them can go that long. But like you said, injuries have started to plague him a bit and that's a concern. It's an even bigger concern when you factor in that we'd be making a large financial investment in Given if we took him on.

I'm not so sure Given is at his peak now. I don't really think he'* the heights at Manchester City that he did at Newcastle. At Newcastle he was a phenomenal keeper. That's just my perception but I don't watch Manchester City regularly so it's possible I could be wrong.

 

35 is no age at all for a keeper.

van der sar and friedel are past 40 and world class.

 

Would be a very good signing if it happens. Shay has made a fortune from football over the years so maybe just getting a game is all he wants and he will take a drop in wages. He still has 2 -3 years left in him and his experience is exctaly what we need

 

It would most probably have a positive impact on our back four with an experienced world class keeper behind them, So Yes I would love to see him in the sticks for Celtic, I would say he has another 5 years left in him.

 

I would rather we signed Forster.

However, I wouldn't be unhappy if we signed Given.

I think we would then need to bring in a promising back up goal-keeper because Zaluska may well be needed, due to Given's latest injury worries and I don't think Zaluska can be trusted at all.

 

I don't know why people talk about Artur coming back. Don't get me wrong, the guy is a legend but he admitted he got lazy in the last couple of seasons (and it could be seen in his performances). He wouldn't have another top class keeper pushing him to perform so I personally wouldn't want to see him back again. He left as a legend, I'd prefer to remember him that way.

Given would be a great aquisition but don't think we can afford him........unless Mr Desmond put his hand in his pocket

 

heart and head are conflicting here. he is a great keeper but do we need a great keeper can we afford a great keeper i think not but i would love him here

my number one choice would be big artur.

But i'd be delighted with Shay, top class keeper....Age means * all, Look at Van der saar

 

Age is relevant when a player starts having injury problems and they're in their mid-30's.

Maybe Given's injuries are just a run of bad fortune but it's something Celtic need to take into consideration if they're going to go in for him.

 

I would take him definitely, just the kind of experience we need. He could still have another 4 seasons in him easily.

He is 35. He loves Celtic. Man City Won't want anything higher than £4m. He is a top quality keeper.

All of this because he might want big money or the fact that he has had shoulder injuries...

Yes, really.

Injuries on any player are a worry and while 4mil doesn't seem that much he's probably on wages double or triple that of our current highest earners, if you can't see that as a potential stumbling block to his signing you've got a cheek telling others to wise up.

anyone that does not fancy this guy in goals needs a head check ! Age to a goalie is of no concern either , look at van der sar ffs ! It would be a major coup for lenny to bring in shay ! Im all for it ! Also shay has made his money and clearly wants to come home and play football so wage should not be a factor imo.
