Dear * let this happen. You don't see other Celtic supporting players coming out and saying that do you. He is 35, and Van der saar just retired at 40, so I'm confident Given can play at least 3 more seasons.

If Fraser Forster (who is a good keeper) can break the record for clean sheets in the SPL, I think Given can do even better.

Boruc became to prone to mistakes. When you leave a club as a legend then in my opionion it is silly to come back.

    I'm not picky.
I'd love to see Given up at Celtic. I'd say the only thing stopping it, though, is the wages. He's on, reportedly, about £80,000 - £90,000 a week with Man City, so it really depends on what Celtic can offer.

He is 35 but I'd say that he still got a few years in him yet as look at Van Der Sar and Buffon. He's still a class keeper as well and may only be the 2nd choice keeper at Man City BUT Joe Hart is 11 years younger than Given for starters and has been playing superb, so Given's not had the chance under Mancini.

If Celtic can work a deal out then I'd be all for it.

Would anyone else be willing to pay £3-4million for Given? I'd pay 30k a week in wages for him too.

Quality keeper and far too good to not be an automatic number 1. City seem desperate to get rid of him so I'm sure a couple of million could secure him. I've heard he's on £90k a week so I imagine he would need to accept at least a 60% pay cut but I'm sure he would rather get around £35k a week and play every game than sit on the bench on £90k. Would still be our highest earner but imagine the amount of goalie tops with Given 1 they would sell. Get talks on the go bang on 1 July when the window opens :icon_mrgreen:

satpot on want to remember the holy goalie at his best not as some has been which too often happens when a player returns to a club where he has had success and been a fans favourite.Dont rate Forster,as said before no command of his area for someone his size and doesnt instil confidence in his defence, albeit they are not the greatest.I would love to see Given who has nothing to prove, only his fitness.A loan deal would bethe best option if possible.

Don't know if I'm reading a bit much into it either BUT if he's willing to take a huge pay cut then it proves he'd rather take a big pay cut to get games RATHER than a huge wage to warm a bench, which to me proves there are players out there willing to PLAY the game rather than just bleed clubs dry.

When I hear a 35yo player coming out and saying things like 'Leaving the EPL to sign for Celtic would not be a step down' I just roll my eyes and take it with a pinch of salt. If they really don't view it as a step down then they should come and play for us when they're 28-29. The fact that you only hear this sort of stuff when a top player hits their mid-30's speaks volumes.

I wouldn't be unhappy if we signed Shay Given but his signing wouldn't excite me as much as it would have done 3-4 years ago.

3 or 4 years ago marky it would have cost 15 mill to get him, so it wouldn't have mattered if he wanted to come to celtic or not because we wouldn't have been able to afford the transfer fee full stop.

Its kind of the same thing with Keane, it doesn't matter if these players are willing to take a wage decrease to play for the club they want to play for, if their club demands a transfer fee and celtic can't pay that transfer fee then theres nothing the player can do. celtic can only afford a player transfer fee for someone of givens calibre until they ge towards the last 3/4 years of their career.

Remember we are the ones that let him go years ago? Not like Keane etc..

    Would be a great signing!

    I understand that mate.

But if a player really wanted to play for Celtic that badly then they could always let their contract run down and then sign for us for a lower transfer fee or on a Bosman.

It just smacks of sycophancy when a player comes out with these sorts of statements when they're nearing the end of their career.

Maybe...maybe not.....i dont want to see celtic sign anymore....epl players coming to the end of there playing days and using celtic as a pension fund.
What he would cost us to buy and give in wages for...say three years would pay for forrest for maybe 5/6 years if not alot more.
Yes i know new castle dont want to sell but i would rather we went for younger keeper with many more years left in him not someone ending there playing days with us.
It dont matter if we let him go or not i dont doubt he supports celtic.

    NO MORE EPL PENSIONERS.:bbpd::bbpd::bbpd:

    * * if he could get him signed and afford it then go for it. Don't care what anyone says the guy is still a top top top keeper. 35 for a top keeper nowadays? No problem atall.

I really cannot understand people saying he is finished, over the hill etc. No chance. If it wasn't for the rise of the english Joe Hart he would have played most games for city this season. I do not doubt for a minute the guy still has it.

haha to summarise would love it if he came back home!

He could easily play for another 3/4 years and he is a Celtic fan...no dout about it!
