Can someone please settle an argument. My son says when Maloney came back to Celtic we paid 3million for him, I said that we paid an undisclosed sum, rumoured to be bnearer the 1 million mark. Does anyone have the correct information to settle this argument?

Aye think it was £1Mill- £1.5Mill.
Has your son been reading Wikipedia maybe? Cos someone has put on there that he was £3Mill, maybe thats why he is convinced he was £3Mill.

    Return to Celtic

On 22 August 2008, Celtic announced the signing of Maloney on a four year deal [11] for fee of £3 million.[12] Maloney marked his return with a Man of the Match performance and two assists in his first match, after coming off the bench for Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink in a 3-0 victory over Falkirk at Celtic Park. Maloney scored his first goal after his return to Celtic in a 4-2 away win over Motherwell and managed his second the following week in a 3-1 away win at Kilmarnock. He finished the season with five goals, taking his total Celtic goals tally to 42.

thats what wiki says, but wiki isnt always accurate. I think it was 1M

a thought we paid about £2.5m, im sure villa argued he had 3/4 years left on his contract and didnt want to let him go for what they paid.

Agreed. He's done very little since his return here. I rate McGinn over him, and that's saying a lot as I am in "wait and see" mode with McGinn.

I also rate McGinn over Maloney, although it must be said I'm a big fan of McGinn - think he will be a cracking player. I rate him high enough to see him as a potential replacement if Aiden goes, maybe a bit to high but he can only improve.

Is he injured or just out of favour? I really think he has the best shooting boots in the team, too bad he can't get back into it. Sorry for being off topic

Many thanks to everyone who took the time to provide information. I am of opinion, based on the replies, that I am nearer the actual figure paid.

    Thanks again to everyone

McCourts ability can't be argued with mate.

    His fitness can.

Don't think he will ever be a first team player mate, as much as I'd love him to get fit enough.

it was definetely £2 million cause i can remember we paid double for what we sold him for and that was £1 million due to him being near to the end of his contract
