Teams in Scotland are at a huge disadvantage to other teams in Europe because of the very strict immigration laws in this country. So while other teams in Portugal/France/Holland/Romania etc can bring in promising talent from Africa and South America for little or nothing, we can't because of the crazy rules that Gary McGuire mentioned above.

At the end of the day if your after a guy who has the amount of caps needed to get a work permit for here, he is going to be worth a fair amount of cash, as he is already likely to be an established international and probally known to most clubs by then.

A player outside of an EU country has to play in 75% of competitive matches in the last two years for his country in order to be eligible for a work permit. If a player has not fulfilled that quota he can still get a WP through a panel, where they decide on case to case basis based on the quality the player would bring basically.

Other EU countries don't have such strict rules, although I think they might have something similar in Scandinavian countries (Sweden?).

the lack of basic football knowlegde in this thread is rife!

the first post itself is ultra silly though

what makes you think he would even want to come here?!

just because we are celtic unfortuneatley it does not mean we can sign who we want

the point is... we should be gettin bargains from teams like this, im sure it would have been a team like dinamo tht we got petrov from, something similar, we buy pishy spl players like willo flood when i would rather see us go buy a 20 year old croatian playmaker.

i would of liked to of seen bilic as he manager because i know hed bring in new petrovs and moravcik's, but mowbray is doing a good job so keep it up big man :50: europa league final here we come

Petrov took a full season at least and was seconds away from leaving the club through home sickness. Viduka, part Croatian, signed and then went AWOL for ages. Lubo was quality from the start but he was a one off and we only really got him because Dr Jo knew what he was capable of and he was in the final stages of his career.

There's a lot more than ability to consider when buying from Eastern Europe and you can bet if he's good enough then the Premiership sides know about it. There's no great secret that guys like Modric, Krankjar etc etc all came from Eastern Europe and football sides know where to look, we can't go covert and under cover all these fantastic footballers on the fly.

    * sake are u so nieve that u cant even see that some players from eastern europe would come to us, and wud do a better job than spl players

Does Willo Flood get a game for Celtic?

No I'm not naive, I am realistic. Watching some Croatians on telly and then thinking we can buy them for thruppence is what is naive.

realistic? ur negative mate, celtic used to be a european team when MON was in charge, we had cheap european players who got us to the uefa cup final, its not unrealistic to think we should be getting european talent in, have some ambition mate, * i cant even put a we thread up about a player i like without u slating it and telling me nah tht cant happen.

forget spl players, buy european players, maby morales is out of our league, but there is DEFO players out there that we could get

You're the first guy to call me negative, I'll give you that :50::56:

MON did not have cheap European players at all. He had 3 £6 million players in Sutton, Hartson and Lennon to begin with so let's not make things up. If you mean he went out and bought Valgaeren for £2 million then aye he did but for me Caldwell is a far better defender and we got him on a free from Hibs so you can see your masterplan isn't as black and white as you think.

N'guemo 1.8 mil is the kind of signing i mean, hinkel, petrov, agathe, peta, valgaeren, mjailby, balde, wieghorst, moravcik, all these players were cheap as chips and done very very well.

these are the types of european players celtic need to buy again, rangers couldnt cope with us, and neither could half of europe.

raid the croatian league, belgian, danish, sweedish

the french league is better than spl more money and better standard, yet we are able to get landry for 1.8 or something, so it is possible to get these types of players :50:
