Tony watt is doing well but read last week that he was benched because of his attitude / discipline during training. He came off the bench to score but it's clear he still has problems

No, the best strategy would be to sign the best players we possibly can regardless of what their passports say.

There's a positive and negative to signing Scottish players, positive is if they come in and do well they are less likely to want away to the EPL at the first opportunity. The downside is Scottish players are unlikely to have the same sell on value as foreign players to the EPL. I doubt we'd have got the money we did for Vic and Forster had they been Scottish as the general perception is that Scottish players aren't great (You just have to look at some of the threads in here to see that) unless they have already proven themselves in the EPL like Mccarthy.

I don't know about that mate. If we had a player as good as Wanyama and he was Scottish I think we would get good money for him. The problem is we're not developing players that good.

For me, the problem is the way the Scottish game is played at youth level. If we were smart we would copy the coaching techniques used in Spain for developing youth, but we're probably not that smart.

I've wanted Snodgrass at the club for ages, still do.

Cant think of any more players in our league who would improve us at the minute, some youngsters with potential, would sign John Souttar, not sure of his best position though cb or cm? contracts up in January, would take a chance on him in the hope that ronny could develop him into a top ball playing cb like Virgil.Ryan Jacks a good player, possible long term Broony replacement but no point in signing him at present.

Good money yes, the same money no.

As far as the youth level goes until we start a grass roots change to create indoor facilities for many more young players things won't change. In Spain you can train outside most of the year, in Scotland the driving wind and rain make practicing touch and technique much much more difficult. And that's almost all year round now. Indoor facilites are the only way to get he same conditions here, but no one is willing to, or can't afford to, spend the money required.

That moment when your ambitions for Celtic are off the hook.

Ryan Christie certainly seems like one to keep an eye on.

Signing Scottish based players is fine, as long as we don't overload the squad with them.

I don't want it to get to the stage where we have a full SPL select side basically barring a couple positions.

Chances are we won't be able to cope in Europe with that. We still need that foreign influence as, at the end of the day, they are often our star performers at that level.

In fact, they are often just our star performers in general. Bitton, Van Dijk, Lustig, Johansen....then Denayer last season etc etc

You are obviously going to hit some blips when buying from abroad but it's worth the risk as every now and then we find one or two quality assets. There's so much talent out there within our reach, for some reason we often choose to waste money on players with sketchy records when there are ones performing well who can be bought for the same price.

Been said on here before, but what I think we're going for (and what I'd like to see) is a first team of maybe half a dozen Scottish players, with a few foreign players of perhaps a higher calibre making up the rest of the team. Then those players would be the ones we'd look to sell after 2 or 3 seasons for a big fee.

I think we have the right balance at the moment.

If we qualify for the CL then I expect 2 foreigners to come in. ST and elsewhere.

    Aye.

Ledley, Commons and Forster count as well. I don't know if you'd count McGeady and McDonald, mind.

Shame there's no good Scottish centre halves about. We could be doing with some stability there.

Could we not just get shot of Derk and forget Christie?

Just because he is a better option than Derk feckin' Boeriggter doesn't mean he should be signed. By that logic you could sign half the SPL.

I also don't get the sudden fascination with Christie. Seen loads of folk mention him since yesterday.

Bloating the squad with SPL based players like the ones you mentioned isn't the way forward. That could see us become a very average side very quickly.

Souttar is easily the most interesting prospect in that list. Would snaffle him without further thought for 1M or less. He is so obviously a future star that any scout who doesn't see it should be fired on the spot.

He easily bosses the midfield in the domestic games with speed, strength, passing and technique, and he is only 18. A possible future replacement for Scott Brown.

Dundee United might be disinclined to sell any more players to Celtic, but I am sure we could sweeten the deal by sending a couple of our fringe men in return. (Derk, Stokes...) or sending a few academy prospects there on loan.

Let's do it, or we will regret it!

Here's Souttar bossing the midfield against Killie, and this is not a career-highlights clip, it is from only one game. And again - he is only 18.

Souttar is another one I don't get the hype around(as I watch him make a howler on Sportscene)

    I know he's only 18 but I don't see the big deal.
