It’s amazing how quickly those last few years in football come in.

It feels like yesterday he was absolutely tearing it up with us, now he’s being let go by Preston. No shame in it of course just shows how quickly it all goes.

He was a great player or us and it's so sad to see how it goes so quickly

Scott Sinclair the invincible. In the passing of time you forget his poorer performances. He was exceptional. Player of the year 2016/17.

Welcome back at Parkhead anytime for a half time draw.

He is 33 now, I'm not really surprised by this. He was 27 when he joined us. He’s had a fairly decent career, winning trophies, played in the premiership, played in the Champions league and earned decent money in the process. I'm sure if he wants to carry on playing he can get a 1 year contract somewhere too.

If I was a pro I'd honestly play until I was 50 if someone would keep signing me. Even if that was Japan, or down to the 3rd division of Scotland. How could you ever give it up? It must only be because they've never experienced normal life like us. Otherwise they'd fight tooth n nail to keep playing imo.

Injuries take their toll on their bodies, lots of travelling away from your family and others want to look at other things. Some may be pretty sick of it.

Great player, who, every year keep producing the numbers for us.

Absolutely loved his attitude when he came here, something a lot of players need to learn from.

Admitting he chased the man city dream, but realised he was never at that level, earned his money, but realised also there is more to it all. Club like Celtic can offer you medals and money and adulation from a magnificent support.

I bet for sure, Celtic will be on of his favourite times in his career.

I think it gets to the point where you can make more money doing things like coaching or punditry for many players

I imagine that's the case for guys like Kris Boyd and Kris Commons being on sky sports, rather than playing in Scottish championship or league 2 In England. With the added benefit of being able to sit on your * rather than be at training 4/5 days a week

Always felt like he was horribly mis-used during his final season with us.

At that time it was clear he wasn't first choice anymore, but I'm pretty sure he only started one game (Cluj away) and didn't even come off the bench that often, was such a disappointing way to end.

Again, have to point to Lennon. Didn't know how to use Rogic and same with Sinclair.

I feel like older players hung around at clubs for longer when I was a kid too, whereas now clubs are reluctant to hand longer contracts to older players.

Depending on how long ago you are talking about. For example, way back in the day before the Bosman ruling, players could often be strung along with 1 year at a time deals (not rolling 1 year contracts, but just signed to 1 year at a time) and pretty much at the whim of the clubs (even when out of contract it was only with the club's consent that players could actually negotiate to go somewhere else/leave. So that was part of it also back in the day.

Well before the Bosman ruling, I was too young to really understand transfers so I was mainly talking about that. But what you just described sounds even worse.

    Edit:

Looks like Bosman's life went down the * after that ruling. Shame.

Think that's bad, should look into what they were doing in baseball. I know, different sport, but what the MLB clubs were able to get away with prior to 1976 with the free agency rule change, where again clubs had all of the power, and unless stated in particular players contracts, the 'league minimum' was the standard that was agreed on first contracts, that those clubs could both get away with offering players contract each year based on that minimum no matter if they were improved or not. It was only once players got traded to other clubs that they could escape that, but then the first contract they signed at the new club, whatever terms that was, was all that the club were obliged to continue to offer.

Even after the advent of free agency there was still the whole collusion scandals in the 80's, where even though players were 'free agents', clubs would often all agree with other clubs not to sign 'free agent' players, so that those players would have to go cap in hand back to their previious club and get paid what the club offered and limited player's bargaining power, keep the player's salaries (relatively) modest and maximize club's power and profits.

It gets even worse the further back you look, and why there was so much gambling scandals in sport wayyy back when no matter what sport, as players really were earning a pittance. The closest that has ever come to that in Scottish Football was with the Aberdeen side around 1930, although that was largely swept under the carpet by the club & SFA.

Paul Lambert and Tom Boyd immediately spring to mind when you say that.

I always felt Samaras not getting offered a contract (or a ‘fair’ contract) at 29-30 was a sign the club doesn’t want to offer players their last big contract.

Wish we could have given him a proper send off.

Still makes me sad thinking he was just here one day, gone the next...his leaving didn't seem right

Indeed, but this seems to be exception these days.

I suspect Forrest will have taken quite the pay cut to finish up here too.
