If there's any truth to wanting 40k a week, then he's clearly over playing his hand. He'll be free for a few more weeks at least if he doesn't alter his expectations.

Sounds like he's no arsed about playing and just wants a huge payday. Red flag for any team. 40k a week and probably wants a few million sign on aswel :56:

Absolutely we already have someone stealing a wage like McCarthy.

Don’t need another * doing the same thing.

Think it's quite common for free agents to hold out until the end of the window to see where they can get the best deal. They know some clubs will be a bit desperate after losing players at the end of the window.

Yeah, take no money now instead of a low offer for four years, if you hold out chances are you get that money back plus more.

    Or....
if you are motivated by sporting success and joining an amazing club you take a very good salary that might not be the maximum, but is still pretty darn good.
If only motivated by salary at whatever club pays it, then maybe he's not the right type of player for us.

    Or....
he's just not that good an no one is actually interested, even at £25k a week.

Why shouldn't a player be motivated by money? They can set their family up for life, not having to worry about grandkids.

It's fine for a Schmeichel or Hart to come here on a lower amount, they've earnt their money and are minted. McKenna has spent 4 years at Forest and the rest at Aberdeen. He will be wealthy but he will want to be comfortable when his career ends in 5 years.

He isn't going to go to another club which will pay Him £40k a week, don't even think Copenhagen would pay Him that, if He lowered His wage expectations and signed for Celtic there is no doubt that He would earn a decent wage and be a first team regular alongside CCV playing in the CL and winning trophies, some players would love to be in that fortunate position of playing regular first team football at a club the size of Celtic and winning trophies whilst being paid a decent wage for doing it, McKenna seems more motivated by money than anything else, would like Him to sign for Us as I think He would be a good player but would be surprised if He does due to his wage demands.

Really doubt anyone is going to pay what he expects.
Reckon we could offer him close to 20K a week on the last hour of the window and he will bite our hand off.

I wouldn't mind him but if he's got those figures in his head then send him on his way and see how he gets on.

I'd stretch to around £15k a week and that's it. If he *'s about he'll end up at a Hearts or a Dundee Utd on a few grand a week.

He’s a good centre half in the right team but he’s not what we need at all.

I’d only take him if he was coming in as 3rd choice.

He can defend 1 v 1 and would be able to defend space in behind him better than Scales as he is actually pretty quick (once he gets in a straight line). If you think it was clear teams were leaving Scales on the ball last year though I think he is even more an obvious weakness in trying to play out.

25kpw is back of the couch money in England these days - most of the first team fillers are on around that. It's very patronising to use our leagues weaker salary status against anyone else.

If he's coming in for free, and saving a club a few million in transfer fees it's not unreasonable for his agent to expect to get a slice of that. Every million saved is a year at ~20kpw in salary. So, if he's worth around £3M (cheap as chips!) and you pay him only about 25kpw for a 3yr deal, he's almost completely repaid upfront.

Free transfers need to looked at out with our usual standards for salary, or player worth, as there's often amazing value there if viewed through a different lens. If for instance McKenna under contract would have cost about £4.5M to buy, then about 30kpw and a 500k signing on fee is only like taking the cost over 3yrs of installments. Is he the one to take the plunge on that philosophy? * knows!

You could give him £25k/week and £1m signing on fee and over 5 years would cost same as Nawrocki's fee and wages. When looking at it like that it's a good deal.

Unless ur profit fc and you don't like deals for 27 year olds that you can't sell on for profit. Ironically we are very unlikely to make any profit on punts like Nawrocki or Lagerbielke either tho

Offer him 20 to 25k pw and leave if with him for 5 days, take it or leave it Lad. If your a Tim you'd jump on it.

He's better than every CB, bar CCV so he definitely improves us.

I honestly think he'd be a disaster man. I'd have Scales ahead of him every day.

I think he'd surprise a few with how well he'd do here..

May not happen in any case.

There isn't much in it from what I've seen..

If you bring McKenna in and ask him to be the one building the play from the back, like Scales, then Jesus....it'll be some sight..

He's so so slow on the turn, can get moving over a stride but very stiff looking with it
    Rash in the tackle
He's better than Scales in the air defending his box and stronger but I wouldn't say after that he has much more than that over him..

We're wanting someone who's closer to Carter-Vickers level and neither are anywhere near. No even close..
