Thought Scales more than held his own and CCV is good enough at that level. The fullbacks are my main worry for CL and depends if McKenna is being eyed as CCV’s replacement (which I really hope not).

We already have one in Iwata I would argue, the only box he doesn’t tick is height but he has the technical ability that not many physical CDM’s would have that we could afford.

Scales did OK, think he surprised us which amplifies the performance level.. CCV missed a few through injury and cost us v Lazio at home..

But aye, GK, fullbacks and no settled CB partnership wasn't ideal..

    Duffy - *
    Phillips - *

two good centre backs in their own right but that style of a defender just does not suit Celtic in recent years. McKenna just seems too similar.. * with the ball and I can’t see it working out. He’s Scottish and cheap so it’s tempting to take the punt and I think we probably will take the punt considering we were linked with a £5m move for him before he went to forest.

You can see our recruitment is non existent when we are targeting * McKenna and £74 million in the bank it reeks of the lack of Ambition at board room level.

I don’t mind us looking at options for Scottish players because we are very short on that front. But yeah would like to see some links for us targeting players at a higher price.

Surely you mean quality and not “price”?

Mckenna is far better on the ball than you’re giving him credit for, he’s miles better than Duffy and Phillips who are a pair of donkeys. He’s a much better player now than the one who left Aberdeen.

Time will tell on him, I'm not fully convinced. Would still like someone a bit more powerful and ranging.

This debate is always doing the rounds.. more money doesn’t equal more quality. But in general aye it does. We seem to be allergic to looking at players who will cost 8-10m. I just want us shopping in that market. If another O’Riley pops up sure, but we should be looking at all options.

So would I but hard to find one that can read the game and have the technical ability on top. I think Iwata has a really good balance for what we need in Europe to be the midfield holder.

That is very true but I would say he was more stable than Starfelt last season in CL. Far more comfortable with the ball at his feet especially.

If AJ can find his form again then it’s mainly a Taylor & Hart upgrade we need which is doable.

I think someone worked out all our transfers that we paid over £4m for since Gordon Strachans time(that was generally decided the changing point in our history, financially) and the overwhelming consensus was we had been extremely successful in that range.

    Edouard- £9m Success
Julien- £7m Debatable but I’d say Success
    Jota- £6.5m Success
    CCV- £6m Success
    Jozo- £5m Debatable
    Ajeti- £5m unsuccessful
    Barkas- £5m unsuccessful
    Brown- £4.5m success
    Kyogo- £4.5m success
    Starfelt- £4.5m success
    Nawrocki- £4.5m jury’s out
    Ntcham- £4.5m debatable
    JVOH- £4m success
    Luis Palma- Jury’s out

Id probably class Jozo as a success. Won trophies, qualified for CL and was decent for the first couple of years. Amazing that a guy who retired at 27 actually won 8 league titles and 7 domestic cups.
Ntcham probably was too, we had the chance to sell him and we should have. He was capable of playing in big games though.

Overall if we've spent a decent amount we've got decent, 2 players from the same window. I think fans think about that window and believe 5m will just buy failure again when reality is that isn't true.

if the manager wants him and thinks he'll do well and we can get him for a nominal fee then why should it matter we 70m in the bank.

I’d class them all as a success apart from the two boys this year, jury remains out on both but it looks promising and Ajeti/Barkas and I’m still absolutely astonished that Barkas never made it here.

Think he would be a good addition but at the same time it’s not a priority signing. CCV, Scales, Welsh and Nawrocki is enough for the remainder of the season.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the Huns are in for him and we are only being mentioned as well so it looks like we’ve been beat to his signature.
