Don’t feel for or against this one. If we get him for free after the loan, see how he goes if true

He has 6 months left on his contract. I highly doubt they're going to loan him out when he only has 6 months left on his contract and they're actively trying to punt him.

It might be one of those scenarios where McKenna says it’s Celtic he wants to go to. Celtic aren’t willing to match his current wage but still offer him a good one so the two clubs come to an agreement for us to cover a % of his wage, and sign him on a bosman.

Alternatively they ask us for a nominal fee and pretty much give him a pay off to go. Spurs done that with Hart when we signed him.

He's definitely more established than Nawrocki, like I say Nawrocki may surpass him. If we are looking to offload Lagerbielke then he's ideal. We had the situation in this CL campaign where we couldn't include Nawrocki because of the foreign player quota. We need Scottish players..

CCV, Scales, Nawrocki, McKenna & Welsh, good depth..

I agree CB isn't reality a priority, but for me its a chance to get a real leader in..

If we do get him he’ll be far off match sharpness, not played for Notts since September and last game was Scotland friendly vs France.

He’d be back up to Scales to play left side centre back or even to give us the option of a back 3. He’d be fine for the league but would be a worry at European level.

Think he'd be a good signing and has mentioned previously would give us a real strong pool of CB's, needed especially with the way we pick up injuries.

We ain't gonna sign a UCL ready defender. It all comes down to tactics and how we shape up.

If we don't sign a competent CDM then the defence No matter who is in there will be left exposed at times.

Strachan got to a last 16 with Caldwell and McManus at CB. But he had hard works and grafters in the centre of the park and tactics that were pragmatic (somewhere in Croatia Leone has a hard on right now). I think Rodgers knows what we need to do.

Scales looked reasonably OK in most games at that level for example, because the way we set up was actually an improvement to recent years and indeed to Rodgers first spell.

I'd argue someone like McKenna would suit in Europe as we will be backs to the wall at times and he has the physical attributes that players at that level don't like coming up against. E.g. you would t exactly think that John Lundstram could be the linchpin of a side thay reaches a euro final - but he was. Largely down to his physical game.

If we say that he's on £30k a week, that's £750k left on his contract. So, why would they leave themselves out of pocket for a guy who clearly has a number of suitors ready to sign him up.

If McKenna decides that Celtic is the only place for him, we need to be showing interest. So, let's assume there is interest and we want to sign him, we will do a deal with them. They won't punt him on loan because they wouldn't have to. They could sell him to us for £750k, use that money to pay him off, like you said, and not be out of pocket in any way whatsoever. There would probably be an agreement between the clubs where Celtic pay a fee that they know is going into McKennas pocket but that gets the deal over the line.

I don't think McKenna would only want to sign for us though. Which is the wider point I'd make.

Stauner, mate. If we could have Iwata playing that in Europe...there'd be a mess on my PC screen.:84:

Your argument for McKenna is solid, but he is either coming in as a first choice defender, or not coming at all. EPL player status makes a player value himself more. And it'd be unfair to push Scales down the pecking order, unless his form dropped significantly. Also, Rodgers is not as ready to play a deep D-line as WGS was. Lagerbielke is likely getting sold because he's too slow. I'm honestly raging at the notion, but that's them rumors.

Not saying he definitely does want to sign for us or only us just putting a scenario out there.

I agree it be more likely something would be worked out but the other scenario is he signs a bosman with us, the player wants to get his 6 months of his contract and we are happy to wait until the summer to get him, so won’t pay the £750k. Then Forrest is stuck with him paying his full wage for 6 months.

Sounds daft but this happened, thankfully with Ben Davies at Preston before he went to Liverpool. We had all but agreed a bosman bbt weren’t willing to give Preston the money they wanted for us to take him non January, the Liverpool swooped in.

Theres not a chance he goes on loan for 6 months before leaving for free.
If he doesnt stay there after the close of the window they would just release him and get him off the wage bill instead of losing him for nothing anyway.

If he sits on his wage and doesnt play he doesnt get into the Scotland euro squad.

If it goes to the close of the window, i think you will see Forrest accept a seriously reduced fee as its financially beneficial for all parties. I think you will see a transfer request submitted imminently.

Likelyhood is Welsh is gonna be out for 3 months if his shoulder is *.

Phillips is already away, kobiyashi and Lagerbielke aren't rated and by all accounts likely to be out the door this month.

That leaves us with Scales, Nawrocki (who's barely played) and CCV (who can't go more than a month without his hamstring giving him problems).

I thought McKenna deal made sense before Welshs injury id now say its a priority.

Sign him on a bosman just now and then get him for peanuts towards end of the window if needs be although I doubt Forrest are asking for much more than a couple of hundred grand just now.

That scenario would also require us to sign someone on a bosman and we appear to have a massive aversion to doing that

If they didnt get someone in to replace him they could play hardball and hang on to him for cover. Not guaranteed to work but it might.

Forest are in big trouble with FFP so it wouldn't surprise me to see them asking for a significant sum of money. However, they could literally sell a couple of their players to ease that burden far more. I think it's more a case of them trying to get the wages of the books and will accept any bid they likely get. I still think the figure will be high 6 figures though. Nearly £1m is what they'll be asking for and to be honest, I'd pay it.

£1m for a Scotland International, who still plays and gets picked for the national squad, with Premier League experience and a great deal of SPFL experience at only 27 years of age? 1st choice CB in their promotion year, is a die hard Celtic fan and is likely coming in here to fight it out for appearances with Scales, Nawrocki and Welsh?

    Absolute no brainer.
