If we want a defender only, forgetting about playing/passing the ball out, we could do worse than him but not for 8 million.

Aye we have too much domestic possession for him to be successful with us.. could be useful in the CL qualifiers tho. Difference between us and Athens is they had two solid CBs, compared to ours.

 

We can afford to carry him in the SPL if he helped us in the CL. Europe is the only arena where we can meet our peers or betters

 

I think he would be successful with us as playing/training with a better quality of player would improve him. However he still wouldn't be the type of defender br wanted (that is what confused me the most when we wanted him) but under a Lenny type manager he would do fine, imo, so I wouldn't be against getting him in, as a defender first and foremost, but not for 8 million.

 

I think he'd be effective, but a Celtic defender should be able to pass the ball too.

 

He would help us qualify but you need to be able to play when in the CL, if qualification is all we're after then he would defo be useful.

 

His price tag rules him out for qualification only. I think we do need that type of non nonsense defender even if we make the group stages. We done ok previously with limited defenders in the CL and I think the only way we have any chance of getting out of the group stages is to take a more pragmatic approach. If we are going down that root though we could get similar defenders for a lot cheaper

 

Didn’t Athens end up with the worst CL record ever or close to it?

The idea that McKenna is some sort of solid CB who’d help us for Europe doesn’t make any sense. McGuire has posted about 15/20 different howlers from him in here.

The problem against Athens was RB.

 

McKenna is improving all the time, He is a big no nonsense defender who knows how to clear his lines effectively and not much gets by him.He has had some colossal battles with Morelos this season and for my money has come out on top.
If signed, he would be dominant in the SPL and with a cultured centre back beside him effective I think in Europe too.

 

He is obviously no VVD but equally he isn't as bad as not being able to pass a ball.

Athens had two CBs who put their bodies on the line. We didn't have anyone doing that..

For the money they want I wouldn't touch him but you can't deny how effective he's been at times. He would be a 100% and sometimes that's invaluable.

 

Supposedly.. although it's a dubious assertion in the modern game.

 

We shouldn't touch him for anything near he's valued at by the Sheep, mainly because his passing is terrible.

We should put in a bid for him in June and see if his uncles cry when they hear the news.
