Scot Gemmil saying he could handle the heat at Celtic, at an average of 12c in Glasgow I really don't think that's anything to brag about.

I was kinda hoping it was for some banter.

Didn't Aberdeen already knock back a bigger bid from Hull or someone and also add he wasn't gonna be sold this transfer window? Was about 5-6 weeks ago too i think. The guy would be little better than Hendry and would in no way improve our ability to compete and move forward in Europe, which is surely the purpose(or if not, it should be) of any major signing coming into the club. Said it before and i'll say it again: the players to improve Celtic in European competition are not going to be found in the SPL. Hendry, Hayes, Christie, Allan. How much money has been wasted on these guys? When is the club gonna wise up?

    I can't believe we've offered £3.5m for him.

Seems a very big risk for someone who hasn't shown much so far.

It has nothing to do with his nationality. We’ve seen enough of him to know that he has no intelligence, pace or technique. He’s a hatchet man who has had - what? - one good season at Aberdeen? Before that he was a bit-part for Ayr United in the Championship.

He has done nothing to merit a move to Celtic, much less break the transfer record between two Scottish clubs.

His Scotland caps say more about the state of our national team than his ability.

He could actually be a good prospect, I have no idea as I doubt I’ve seen him play more than thrice.
Problem, as ever with Celtic, is timing. You sign prospects in January giving them time to bed in. You also most importantly have to sign experienced quality players, helping them along and taking pressure off.

Would be peak Celtic to have Hendry and McKenna at the back for Europe League groups - which should have been Champions League with even a tiny bit of ambition and investment.

The board deserve the majority of the blame but ever since Brendan arrived it seems we exclusively scout players from Britain, astoundingly ignorant considering basically all of our best signings in recent history have been from abroad.

Rodgers hasn’t helped himself in Europe at times.

Defeatist bullshit spun by the board & their apologists and all too easily accepted by some in our support

Ajax made the 16/17 Europa League final having spent €23 million in both Summer and Winter transfer windows...having sold players for €60 million.

We're of a comparative size of Ajax in terms of supporter base and playing in a small country that does not have a lucrative TV deal.

No reasonable supporter expected us to spend anything like that but £10 million spent on key areas of the team would have seen us qualify for the Champions League and have us far better equipped to compete.

We got beat 3 nil by Juventus who were using ridiculous manhandling wrestling moves that should have resulted in multiple penalties for us that night. We actually blew it through Ambrose if I remember right, another CB who wasn't good enough. Flung in after an international game. I missed most of the 1st half as I was doing laps round the stadium trying to get my ticket to scan right at turnstiles, but thought we did alright minus Ambrose.

Great post. This is the mindset of majority of Celtic fans I have spoken to all summer. We're turning into an embarrassment. Mckenna sounds like it's turning into a panic buy. Christ it's not as if the board haven't had enough time to get some players in. And where is the quality we were hoping for??? Its certainly no at any spl sides.

Got into the last 16. That’s competing. I don’t think it has, if anything there was a greater scale of competition in 2012. The CL has been won by one club for the last 3 years.

Brendan isn’t a crap manager, he’s hust not a particularly good defensive one. If he can’t impose his style onto the other team we’re pretty much *.

Absolutely. PSG caned us twice last year and the excuse given was the difference in spending power, yet Amiens, a small team with a much smaller budget than ourselves, gave PSG 2 tough games in League 1, losing 2-0 and drawing 2-2. We also fared much better against a far superior Barcelona team under Lennon. None of us expects to win the CL but we shouldn't be seeing ourselves embarrassed.

I think that's the sole reason some people want him.

I think we've almost taking too much of an inverted approach to that old "if he had a fancy name!" thing over the last year. You see people talking it down the second we're linked to an "exotic" name, but talking up any domestic signing purely because they're domestic.

If he was called Scott Marchena and he played for Valencia we'd all be buzzing to sign him.

I hope we either move on after that bid was rejected or put a second offer and get that rejected so we can move on, sick of seeing this guys name everywhere.

Totally agree and what the * is going on at the club and the scouting system seems to have gone * up if its true we have offered 3.5 million for a below average defender .
