ii dont rate scott mcdonald and that has nothing to do with the fact he cost us the championship. if he is good enuff for celtic then i'm sure some championship teams wood have raided for him before any old firm club. the fact that rangers have signed broadfoot, gow and want mcdonald, shows their ambition. let the huns have mcdonald as its all they can afford. celtic are much more ambitious than that, keano or bellers is who we shood be getting linked with, not mediocre pish from motherwell:87: . anyway doesnt surprise me that the daily * is who wrote this, on a day our national team is playing they have to get their wee crap rumour in aboot celtic:87: . RANT OVER. p.s i'd rather have miller than mcdonald, and that just says it all

if this is true, then the club are not heading in an ambitious direction.

REPEAT he did not cost us the Championship. I don't particularly like him but Celtic lost the championship all by themselves. Nothing to do with Scott McDonald.

that wissnae really ma point. i was just saying no matter what he done who he scores against i have never rated him as a player, and going for mcdonald shows shows the same ambition as the gers, but i dont think the stry is true anyway so who cares, let the daily * do wat they want, they have nothing else better to do:87:

And we believe the paper why?

Walter wanted him in January and actually put in a bid. He will be back in for him in the Summer.

A non-story if ever there was one.

after and during the milan tiw we spoke of the need for a player who can take us to the next level..... rangers may need this guy for their assault on next years league cup campaign.... but surely tae * we can aim a bit better than that... i'd rather sign henrik larssons shin pad, jock strap or hair band... expect this story is pish tae try and force the huns tae complete the deal asap.... story eminates fae fir park i expect.

He is a little off the boil at the moment but he is fast, good touch, good at turning, good shot and more of a natural scorer than anyone we have bar JVOH. IMO, while not superb he would be a really good cheapy buy at £750,000. I know he is not exactly a dream signing but is probably more likely than some of the mega expensive wishlist international names being bandied about by some of the day dreamers. I personally think he would be just one of at least two new strikers if Magic and Miller move on in the summer. I think there is a problem than you can get an solid player in Scotland for under a million but what you usually get (unless you unearth a relatively unknown foreign gem like Naka, Artur etc) for 2-3 million in the UK is often not much better. Decent developed players in the UK start at 4 million unless spotted really early. I dont think we are going to be buying 3 or 4 four or five million pound players in the summer. I dont think that is the sort of budget WGS is going to get. I think its more likely WGS's entire transfer budget will be about 6 or 7 million + money from any player sales. I would take McDonald as backup and spend the rest of the budget on another quality striker and creative central midfielder.

good points on the budget mate... i reckon that with the players who leave and the money from their wage and transfer fee added to existing budget. i reckon we should expect a £10 mill budget.... i'd have four £2mill signings and two alf mill signings...no doubt we'll spend half that and be told to be grateful.

Add a quality full back like Steven Whittaker to the list Keltoi, and I will
    agree with you

MacDonald is a nippy wee forward who would get us probably
20+ goals in the Premier League next season, he could be our
master goal poacher, and would get more goals than Miller, Zurawaski and Beattie combined IMO.

What's in the past, is in the past, and MacDonald's family are all Celtic daft.

    I would take him in a shot..:50:

ffs Keltoi. They say the Irish rely too much on dreams but you are the opposite. You remind me of the woman with a Virginia ham under her arm who goes around crying cause she has no bread. There is plenty of cash there.Lawwell has spoken consistently of blue chip players and saying we will always have 4 or 5 in the squad. At the moment we have two in Naka/Boruc mebbe 3 if ye count Gravesen.
The only thing solid about Scott McDonald is the fat * on the *.He scored 12 goals in 40 apps last season that's * Misser potential. He has 12 this year and opposing defences give far less respect to Motherwell than Celtic. He'd score even less when he's facing 8 men behind the ball.
6 million budget he had that in his 1st year.No more settling for squad players ffs we need to be buying players who can play 1st team stuff and step up to Europe when the need arrives.McDonald as back up?back up for what.

Basically my thoughts. He is more of a natural striker than anything other than JVOH at Celtic. Why when we are currently using even worse strikers is it so hard to believe that we may sign McDonald. I hope he will be a squad player and we also sign a quality international striker but we cant compete for EPL players or top west European players that the EPL would also be interested in UNLESS we get really lucky. For really talented, developed, in-demand players our realistic markets are Scotland, eastern Europe, world beyond Europe etc. WGS does have a talent for this so I still have hopes of cheap but quality players coming in the summer.

A lot of people want all three of magic, miller and beattie bucked out so even if we sign one top striker we may need more back up. Sorry if I sound gloomy but I have seen far too many seasons where we always have a big pot of money in theory but only half of it ever appears. Most of WGS's purchases have been cheap as chips freebees or 0.5 to 2.5 million players except JVOH. On the bright side, WGS is the master and may unearth some hidden foreign talent on the cheap. Always be a pessimist...your never disappointed and get the odd good surprise!
