But * *........ This is not how it was supposed to end.

Good luck to him, I really hope it works out. He obviously wants to play on a bit while also coaching. At Celtic it was one or the other at a guess. Aberdeen is a decent sized club to do your coaching while finishing playing.
The guy isn't staying to collect a last pay cheque or leaving to earn more money and I have to respect that.
Maybe in a few years we will see him back either as an assistant or as manager.

Was Broony still on 30 grand by the way?

We have a lot of big wages coming off the bill at this summer plus big fees for at least 2 or 3 player's..

I know the current climate but there is no excuse for no backing this new regime.....and massively..

I am sad to see him leave, but it is the right time for us to part ways.

It will be a long time before we see a player of his ilk at Celtic again. He deserves a proper send-off if and when everything returns to normal.

It will be strange to see him in another club's colours, but I am looking forward to seeing what path his career takes from here.

    All the best, Broony!

I was 19 when we signed Broony.

I am now 33 with two kids (well one and one due in 7 weeks) and a mortgage.

I remember his first game for us at Celtic Park. What a servant he's been and what a vast array of memories he's given us.

Regardless of the many who think he should've been phased out the team a while ago, myself included, he will leave a massive hole within the club. Irreplaceable.

Scott Brown will always be my captain.

    Thank You Skip.

    Captain, Leader, Legend.

Nothing short of one of the clubs all time greats and one our our greatest's captains of all time. Wish him nothing but the best and given his obvious leadership qualities it would not surprise me at all if one day he was back at Celtic in a coaching capacity.
The lack of crowds due to the pandemic has been dreadful if obviously necessary in so many ways. But not now being able to give Brown the proper send off he deserves on the field is now right up there.

Things we'll probably never see again that many games, trophies or European games or captaining the team for that long.

He was Celtic’s captain, leader and legend. Now, after nearly 14 years with the club, Scott Brown is set to leave Paradise at the end of this season to take up a new role as player/assistant manager with Aberdeen.

He will leave Celtic with the enormous gratitude and best wishes of everyone associated with the club for everything’s done in the green and white Hoops since joining back at the start of the 2007/08 season from Hibernian.

Since then, he has gone to establish himself as a legend of the club. To date, he has made 613 appearances for Celtic. Indeed, only six men have played more times for the club in its entire 133-year history.

He has won a host of silverware during his time with the Hoops – 10 league titles, 6 Scottish Cups and 6 League Cups – most of it as captain, making him one of the most successful captains in Celtic’s history.

He was given the armband in January 2010 and did not relinquish it from then on, as a succession of managers put their trust in him as the on-field leader. He never let them down.

His first trophy success came in 2008, at the end of a dramatic first season at Celtic, with Gordon Strachan’s side winning their last seven league games to clinch the title on an emotional night at Tannadice, the decisive game coming just days after the sad passing of Hoops legend, Tommy Burns, who was first-team coach at the time.

Tommy had also been a strength and support to Scott during a difficult personal time for him, as was everyone at the club, with the loss of his sister, Fiona that same year.

Scott’s trophy success over the past few years has seen some incredible moments for Celtic supporters to save. Most notably, in leading the team to nine league titles in a row, he also captained the side which created football history by winning four domestic trebles in a row. The Quadruple Treble will take its place amongst Celtic’s greatest triumphs.

Of course, before leaving to take up a new role at Pittodrie, Scott will be aiming to win one trophy as a Celtic player, with the Hoops launching the defence of the Scottish Cup next month. The club made history last season by becoming the first team to win the famous old trophy four years in a row, and it would be a fitting finale for the Celtic legend if the green and white ribbons could adorn it once again this year.

In his 613 appearances for Celtic, Scott has scored 46 goals. There have been some great goals, and important ones too, but surely the most memorable of all came at Ibrox on February 6, 2011 in a Scottish Cup tie that finished 2-2.

The left-foot finish was exquisite, but it was the celebration which followed – arms outstretched, face impassive – that has become part of Celtic. This was the day The Broony was born.

Now, Scott is moving on to the next stage of his football career, and though it will be strange next season to see a Celtic squad without his name included, his incredible contribution to the club will always be appreciated by Celtic supporters, who recognised a player who always gave everything for the green and white jersey.
