He's also cost us goals and cost us possession, and left the midfield far too open with his lack of movement and stifled McGregor's game this season, so swings and roundabouts.

Dundee United was this season to be fair.

Brown would've gave us more than Ntcham today, of that I have no doubt.

Granted his main assets to the team aren't attacking but him being in there would've given McGregor and Turnbull greater freedom to do the damage.

Has a dip in form every season getting lambasted by his critics(me sometimes)then comes back and proves us all wrong.Hoping this is the case this year too.If not its going to be a long season. Not seen much of Soro, hoping he’s got as much dig as Broony when needed as there’s not much of it in the midfield without them.

I don't think he lacks movement at all. I also don't think he stifles McGregor's game (as today showed in fact). Something is stifling McGregor's game, but I don't think it's Brown.

I do agree with you that defensively he did not start the season at all well. I was as worried as the next person that this was it for Broony. Touch wood the last few games defensively it seems maybe there's reason to hope that this aspect might just be.. well, I'll not jinx it.

But in an attacking sense, I honestly think he's been good all season, not only the last few games.

I strongly disagree. So many players have just went past him this season, most recently against Sarajevo.

McGregor having to compensate for Brown's lack of movement has stifled his game.
I'll take your word for it because I can't think of anything that's been praiseworthy, bar the Hibs game.

He influenced the game big time today. But theres some strange comments flying about.

Theres no doubting some of the flaws in his game so far this season. Lack of movement and poor positioning (very unlike him btw) definitely two of them which has been very very clear in europe.

Just go back and watch the Ferencvaros game or even mid week to see it.

What I will say is I think our tactics this season have been very hard to figure out. The midfield have found it very difficult to influence games on a number of occasions and I dont think its helped anyone.

I was honestly getting really worried today an
Ah, you mean his acceleration? Yes, that was a concern. I didn't see it much against Sarajevo except the last 10 minutes (I said on the night that I thought he struggled at the end). The last few games, that has been much better touch wood.

If it's Brown, why was he stifled today, then?

I don't think he was, he was fine today if not spectacular.

What criticisms did Lennon have of McGregor's performance?

Regarding Brown. I thought you meant Brown. I understand now you meant McGregor. Yes, I'd agree that McGregor was "fine if not spectacular". That, for McGregor, is stifled. I don't remember the last time I saw his performance drop below fine. Maybe some time under Ronny? Certainly not this season.

Love the lad, but the fact he came on with the others and made a difference is great, but for those using it as justification to continue starting him need to ask the very obvious question, why the * has he not been doing this all season already in all the games he has started?

There are bigger issues, but today shows the side needs to learn to play without him and that he can be an effective sub later in games to give a proper fire under the belly.

Anyone who thinks he will and does provide an attacking option has clearly no idea the type of player he is these days and how he plays the game.
He starts, he is a DM and practically plays as a 3rd or 4th CB providing very little in an attacking sense.

We done today what we do often in drawn out boring games, we make a host of changes in the last ten minutes and push for a late winner - we've done it many times over the years and every time we all moan that we want to start games like that.

He will obviously start against the huns and I imagine him not starting today was more about the bookings he is carrying (another issue needing adressed), but really we need to be playing games with McGregor and Turnbull as the midfield two and an Attacking Mid option in Rogic, Ntcham, Christie (not Brown who hasnt been an attacking midfielder this decade). If we go the rest of this season starting Brown in 95% of games, then it will be a long * * season and a lot of edgy games, with eventually the same problem arising next season again.

    Soro deid ?

He should be the one getting a chance if Brown is rested, for me anyway. Unless he's not rated which seems the case, so should be punted. Why do we sign guys, not give them a chance and keep them on our books for 3/4 seasons instead of admitting they're not good enough and just getting rid after a season.

griff and klimala where the saviour today not brown

he did a captains job when he came on no doubt, offers leadership, a boost and focus when we are struggling but he didnt save us, people seem to think theres a vendetta against brown but its not, its just fellow celtic fans seeing him getting older and not being able to do what he used to every season. In the last few years hes lost some agility, strength, acceleration and pace and so as he is declining we as a team are declining a bit too, huns were running past him centrally with pedros team

how many games in a row did broonie get booked in ? was he left out today so he wasnt banned for the huns game ?

hes not the fault of our poor performances but hes not exempt eithe,r there is obviously other problems, neil was right i believe about players heads been elsewhere looking to escape parkhead, luckily we have just about managed to keep winning just...

we will have to learn to play without brown its isnt a good position to be in to be so reliant on an ageing player like we are with brown and either we buy in a ready made replacement or our midfielders collectively have to adapt their game to play without a DM

*, who is our central midfield ? i havent a clue anymore

Yes, he made a career out of reading the game, being in the right place at the right time, cutting out the danger, etc.
Maybe an indication that his legs are going.

SCOTT Brown knows the Glasgow derby better than any player who’ll feature in either dressing room tomorrow (Saturday), but he admitted that the absence of fans makes the match unique for all involved. As a result, the captain is adamant he and his team-mates will make themselves heard on the Paradise pitch as they aim to entertain Hoops fans watching from afar.

A victory would see the nine-in-a-row champions climb move back to the top of the Scottish Premiership with a game in hand, and it would extend their fine form to nine wins from nine. The skipper said he is looking forward to Saturday’s encounter, but treats it like any other game at Celtic – which is one he wants to win by playing entertaining football.

“Nothing changes for us in the way that we prepare, the way we analyse, the way we set up, because this is another game that we want to win,” said Brown in an exclusive interview with the official match programme. “Our organisation behind the scenes is similar for every game and as players we can’t infer that one game is bigger than any other, because every game is massive at a club like Celtic. Every game won gets us three points, and every three points is huge for us.

“That said, on the day, it’s a good game to play in. It’s just sad that there’s no fans at this point. The fans always give you that extra push, especially in these games, but we just need to play in the same way which we have without them.

“People like myself, who know the fixture well, and even people like Shane Duffy, who hasn’t played in one yet but knows what it’s about, we need to make ourselves heard. Shane wanted to be here, he wanted to play in these games, and it’s a great opportunity for him. Pulling on that jersey means the world to Shane, as it does people like myself and people like Callum McGregor.”

Brown stressed both sets of players will miss the fans on the day, but said it’s about putting that to one side and making the most of the situation. For the captain, putting on a show and claiming three points now becomes doubly important for all of the fans watching at home.

He added: “Ahead of the game, we know how we’re going to play, what sort of shape we’re going to take, what style we’re going to adopt, all depending on the opponent. That doesn’t change – whether it’s Rangers, AC Milan, Barcelona or St Johnstone – that preparation and focus remains the same. You have to respect every single opponent.

“We always want to entertain. We want to win, that’s the most important thing, and we want to play attractive football whenever we can. We’re well-organised on the park, and I think that’s what we’ve been especially good at this season so far.”
