I think one of the biggest challenges we’ve faced this season has been our defensive frailties. We looked vulnerable from the opening day and nothing has really changed. Part of the reason we’ve looked so weak has actually been the lack of protection from the midfield imo. At his best, that was Brown’s role - breakup play through interceptions and tackles, and recycle possession. The best DM’s in the game have always historically been a nightmare to play against when it comes to beating them in a 1vs1 contest. Right now it feels as though any energetic midfielder (and there are plenty of them even domestically) can drop the shoulder and get PST Brown, or simply get to a loose ball before him.

I didn’t post at the time but I thought the Dundee United game was very telling. They pressed us in the first half and our midfield couldn’t control the tempo of the game. They stood off us in the second half and our midfield couldn’t break down their defence or create chances. Not Brown fault exclusively, but very demonstrative if a midfield that simply doesn’t work.

Broony basically saying his Gaffer is talking *, going against what he says

    That says plenty for me

I think you are right about this. People forget that one of the reasons his accuracy was so good is his mind. What might look like an easy pass might only be easy because he saw it coming a couple of passes earlier and positioned himself accordingly.

You can see a perfect example of this from in the lead up to our goal at the weekend.

Exactly, he can be in the squad an still have a positive influence on the squad, but I dont think he should be in the starting line up based on what he has achieved.
If there is someone more effective in that role, they should 100% take his place.

Idn, typically players like centre backs who sit deeper and play shorter passes have higher passing accuracy.
Whilst we defo need a player who can retain possession, it may be more advantageous to us to have a midfielder capable of a penetrating pass from deep.

I don't think Minty is denying Broony's position is a factor, but he's right that a lot of our attacking play came through him and still does.

We can be too simplistic about this. To use the same example, his pass to Christie in the move leading to our goal was technically backwards, which doesn't sound very impressive; but actually it was a very smart bit of anticipation and positioning. In addition, getting the weight and angle right required a bit more technique than a simple sideways pass (albeit not spectacular technique).

I appreciate that point, but it would need to be backed up with some stats or evidence.
typically, if he is making a lot of short side or backwards passes then his pass percentage will be higher.

In my case, I don't have stats; but I think that's exactly what Minty was already doing earlier in the thread though.

I kind of agree with what he’s saying... ive been in jobs I wanted away from but still did my best .. but we all know football is different and players WILL reflect this in their effort and performance - even deliberately to influence a move.

You do your office/factory/whatever job * because you don’t like it... you don’t get a lucrative move to another company. Footballers know they CAN.

More importantly ... it conflicts with what Lennon has said.

His comments today completely going against what Lennon is saying.

Interesting. Whether hes just trying to douse the flames...I dont know.

Got to be that, I can't see Brown coming out and saying something to deliberately undermine Lennon, considering how many years they've worked together and he's basically undroppable in his eyes.

He should be coming on in games at the 60 min mark to see games out and control the tempo when opposition players begin to tire.

He shouldn’t be starting games when the tempo will be at its quickest and he can’t cope with the pace of the game.

For those who are in love.....
There's no coming back this time..

He's completely finished. Love the man but he's done and everyone can see it..

Has zero pace. Can't really win 50/50's anymore because his reactions or leg's are too slow for the mind. Sits miles too deep..

His passing is *. His pressing is *. He gets breezed past. He actually gets bullied now..

Reminding me a bit of when Joey Barton came up and he was done so got terrorised by Accies and Killie player's. Now every diddy is fancying a go at Broony..

For the love of *, get him off and Turnbull in..

Didn't play badly today but his effectiveness is continually low. There's no good reason for him to play 3 games in 8 days at 35 years old.

As much as I love brown I can't help but feel like we should at least take him off as much as possible to (1) save his legs and (2) phase him out so that his long term replacement whoever that may be is ready to take the bull by the horns when the time comes
