I totally disagree. I don't think he'd look completely out of place, but it's not his natural position and he's not really an anchor man type of midfielder.

CELTIC captain, Scott Brown is celebrating 10 years at the club in the best possible way when the Hoops kick-off the defence of their title against Hearts on Flag Day this August 5.

The skipper will be unfurling the SPFL Premiership title flag at Paradise as the treble-winning Invincible Celts go all-out for seven-in-a-row and his own eighth title won since joining the club.

In his 10 seasons as a Celt, the captain has won 13 trophies in all, with three Scottish Cups and three League Cups to add to the seven league titles he has already won

Club Chairman, Ian Bankier said: “We are delighted to announce that Scott Brown has accepted our invitation to unfurl the SPFL flag this year at Celtic Park at the first league match of the season.

“We thought it very appropriate that Scott was given this honour particularly as he marks his 10th anniversary and testimonial year at the club.

“In that period, Scott Brown has given everything to Celtic. He has served this club with distinction and has been a wonderful Celtic captain. He is a leader on and off the pitch and deservingly so, a huge favourite amongst our supporters.

“Last season epitomised our captain, he was the leader, the driving force behind a team which delivered a truly memorable season and a level of success and achievement which may never be repeated.

“As Celtic supporters we should reflect on last season with tremendous pride and once again I applaud Brendan, his backroom team and the entire squad for all they achieved on behalf of the club.”

He added: “Scott is hugely deserving of this honour, I am sure it is a day which Scott and his family will enjoy, as we celebrate our sixth consecutive league title victory.”

The skipper himself said: “It is very humbling for me to be asked to unfurl the league flag on such a great day for the club and I thank our Chairman for this great honour.

“We had an incredible season last year, reaching six-in-a-row, winning the treble and managing to go unbeaten domestically and all of our players deserve real credit for the way in which they went about their business.

“The level of determination throughout the team, each week to deliver, was phenomenal. I’m so proud of all my team-mates for the level of commitment they showed.

“Under the manager and his staff, we were totally united in giving everything we had last season to deliver for our supporters and it is a season which I am sure brought a lot of happiness to our fans.”

He added: “This was a wonderful achievement and everyone at the club on the playing side and behind the scenes put a huge effort into reaching these heights.

“As we kick off this season, we will give the same level of commitment to everything we do and again aim to bring our fans as much success as we possibly can.

“Celtic has been my home for the last 10 years and it has been a huge honour to serve and captain our great club during this period.

“It will be another huge honour for me to unfurl the league flag.”

SB: "I came to Celtic to play in the @ChampionsLeague and play against the best teams in the world. That’s why I signed & stayed here.”

SB: "You play against the top players in the world. It makes you understand the game at a better level as well.”

SB: "It's going to be a hard game but we are looking forward to it.”

SB: “The squad has changed over the last few years. The standards that we've set are huge and we need to maintain them.”

SB: “It's going to be hard against @RBKfotball but if we play our own game and follow our game plan then here's hoping."

CELTIC take to the UEFA Champions League stage once more tomorrow night (Wednesday) when Norwegian champions, Rosenborg visit in the third qualifying round of the tournament.

As the Scottish player who has made the most European appearances, the sight of Scott Brown leading the Hoops out to the action should be on the agenda once more as he takes another step forward in the record books.

The 4-0 second-leg win over Linfield in the previous round marked his 83rd European game, taking over from Barry Ferguson’s 82, and the lure of continental competition was part of the attraction in him joining the Hoops a decade ago.

The Celtic skipper said: “I came to Celtic to play in the Champions League and play against the best teams in the world. That’s why I signed and stayed here.

“You play against the top players in the world. It makes you understand the game at a better level as well.

“We want to get through this fixture. It's going to be a hard game no matter who we're playing. It’s always hard at the start of the season. We are finding our fitness and sharpness. We are just looking forward to it.”

Brown has experienced both highs and lows on the European front with the Hoops and he is hoping that some of the Invincible magic from last season’s unbeaten domestic treble campaign can rub off on this term’s Champions League aims.

He said: “The squad has changed over the last few years, as has the way we play football as well. The standards that we've set ourselves are huge. We need to maintain those standards.

“The way we play games and the way we dominate the ball, we need to try to bring that from SPFL to Europe.

“It's going to be hard but if we play our game and follow our game plan, then here's hoping.”

Last season there was the blip against Lincoln Red Imps in Brendan Rodgers’ first competitive outing with the Celts before the aggregate win took the Hoops on to defeat Astana and Hapoel Be’er Sheva in qualifying for the Group Stages for the first time in three seasons.

From there, the customary ‘group of death’ awaited Scott Brown and his team-mates as the Hoops joined giants such as Barcelona, Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach in what proved to be a valuable learning curve.

The captain said: “The gaffer just came in last season and we were short and sharp and straight into European football. I don’t think he knew his strongest team at the time and there were a few chops and changes. The way we play, the formation, the structure has changed dramatically.

“We know last season is in the past now. We need to maintain the levels we set last term going forward into this season now. We demand a high standard from everyone at training and now that goes into games as well.”

SCOTT BROWN has cherished every one of his record 83 European appearances.

Celtic skipper Broony is just gutted none of them have been against Real Madrid.

Brown, 32, has taken on most of the Euro greats during the last 10 years, and will never forget trying to mark Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta.

But he admits a trip to Madrid is the ultimate aim as he eyes the Champions League group stages again.

Brown said: “We haven’t played Real Madrid in Europe. I would like a kick at a few of them!

“We played them in a friendly in 2012, but I was meeting up with Scotland a couple of days later so didn’t play.

“Playing them would be great. The better players you play against, the more you raise your own game.

“You try and maintain the level they play at.

“It’s great to play against some of the best players in the world, to see how they receive the ball, their passing and awareness.

“Iniesta was my toughest opponent. The way he takes the ball, comes deep and drives at you direct, is impressive.

“His feet are amazing. He runs at you with pace and plays one-twos.

“It is like you are not even there half the time.

“When he is playing around you it may seem like you are getting close to him, and then his pace takes him away from you.

“Iniesta has done that against the best players in the world. It shows you what a quality player he is.

“It is good to get that level and take on those players. Hopefully this team can get to that stage.

“I am not trying to say we are going to get to the same stage as Barcelona are at.

“But we have to try and fight our own battles and play proper football in a great atmosphere in front of a great crowd as well. It would be fantastic if we could do that this season.”

Broony broke Barry Ferguson’s Euro appearance record against Linfield last week.

He played a handful of Uefa Cup games with Hibs, but has been a Champions League regular since moving to Celts.

Brown revealed his highlight was the Hoops’ penalty shootout play-off win over Spartak Moscow in August 2007.

Brown added: “That’s why I came to Celtic, to play in Europe, to play in the Champions League, to play against the best players in the world.

“That’s why I’ve stayed here so long. There are some great names on the list, like Kenny Dalglish, and they were different times back then. We’ve got six qualifiers now just to get into the Champions League.

“Tommy Burns jumping on us after we beat Spartak Moscow in the penalty shootout stands out for me. That was great, daft Tam piling on top of us all.

“That night showed how much it meant to reach the group stage. It means a lot for Celtic, both from the money point of view and to play on that stage, to hear that music before kick-off.”

Celts face Rosenborg on Wednesday night, and Brown insists merely reaching the group stages shouldn’t be the aim for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

He said: “Now we have got the right man in charge. We are back playing proper football.

“We dominate the ball in the Premiership. We should be trying to take that into European games, and not just let teams attack us for 90 minutes.”

Took a heavy one on the ankle at the end there. Another player we can't afford to be without next week. Hope he's alright.

Had two simple passes out to Lustig and overcooked them both. Typified the evening, lax passing and what he was thinking about with headers that were the defenders balls all day long i don't know. It seemed like he wanted to be involved in everything as he knew he was playing badly but just made it worse.

He was awful tonight, just awful. I can't remember the last time he was that bad, he was either slowing it down or giving it away. Hopefully he is back to his best next week.

I'd say it wasn't as bad as Tyncastle last season but definitely didn't have a good game

Yeah, possibly. It was just so out of character. He was trying to overcompensate for his errors and in doing so made more. We need him to be at his best next week.

Didn't like when he tried to go through the boy first half instead of just a normal tackle and it ricocheted straight into his path and Gordon had to save.

Same when he got injured at the end too. He looked more intent on going through it rather than getting a proper shot away. Anyway, I'm being pedantic, just felt he wasn't as composed as usual and was getting frustrated easily.

Defo. He was probably having to do much more tonight with Ajer behind him and no recognised striker in front but I agree.

He didn't play well but 'awful' is massive hyperbole.

I thought he broke up some play, but some of his passing is beyond belief.

He still has more guts and drive than the rest of them put together. Even on a bad night he still offers something. Trouble was they were all, with the exception of Gordon, bad.
