400 appearances man, scary how many were writing him off after Ronny left, myself included.

It's as if no one knew exactly how to play him before and Brendan's came straight in and utilised him in the perfect role while giving him super passing abilities.

Scott Brown has held talks with Celtic chief Peter Lawwell over a possible testimonial.

The Hoops skipper, who is in his 10th season at Parkhead, is set to make his 400th appearance for the club if he plays against St Johnstone in tomorrow night's Ladbrokes Premiership match.

The 31-year-old Scotland star is under contract at Parkhead until the summer of 2018 and told Celtic TV that he has had discussions with the club's chief executive over an event to mark his long service.

Brown said: "We have been speaking, me and Peter and have been having a chat about it, so it could happen.

Don't even think Broony knew how good a footballer he could actually be in terms of being able to control the midfield with passing and understanding of the game.

I think it probably helped him that everyone doubted him end of last season, he worked like * with Rodgers to prove to everyone he can still do it and improve himself.

    400 is outstanding..

Probably won't get the praise and acknowledgement in the media it deserves, but terrific servant to this club..

Can't see it being against Hibs. Probably an English or big European side. Fitting for a glamorous tie, and although he was a hibee, they certainly ain't glamorous..

John Hartson hails Celtic skipper Scott Brown as he gets set for 400th game for the Hoops

There will be no statue of him erected outside the entrance to the stadium.

But Scott Brown won’t need any of that to know he’s achieved modern-era greatness at Celtic.

Tomorrow he reaches the landmark of 400 games for the Hoops.

For me it doesn’t quite put him up there alongside the true legends like Jock Stein, Billy McNeill, Jimmy Johnstone or the King of Kings, Henrik Larsson.

It would be over-egging it to suggest it does.

But in this day and age, Brown has forged himself a legacy at the club which will take some beating in the years and decades to come.

I have so much admiration for Broony. I always have done.

I think he’s a tremendous player and someone who always strikes me as a guy I’d have enjoyed playing alongside. He’s a winner first and foremost. He hates getting beat.

Since Gordon Strachan signed him from Hibs in 2007 I’ve loved how he has relished every single game and every single minute in that jersey.

The club paid out a significant amount of readies when they sent a cheque for £4.5million to Easter Road ten years ago.

But there haven’t been many players who have given them better value for money.

With each passing year Brown has got better and better to reach the stage where he’s the man who makes them tick.

Brendan Rodgers realised that the second he walked into the club last summer.

He knew how important Brown was going to be for him and made a big effort to get him on-side.

He invited the club captain to his home in London where Brown was given the big-sell from Brendan on what he was planning to do as manager.

He knew he needed Brown to buy into it, but he also made it clear that there would be a new set of standards being implemented in the dressing room.

That must have been music to Brown’s ears because it was a mess under Ronny Deila.

Fair play to him for being man enough to look Brendan in the eye and tell him he was prepared to be his leader on and off the park.

Brendan then told him he’d make him a better player, which he undoubtedly has done.

From what I can see, Broony has risen to every challenge that’s ever been put in front of him.

He has real loyalty, standing by Deila last season even when it had become an almighty mess.

It couldn’t have been easy for him to bite his tongue when the training was poor and the results weren’t good enough.

But Broony tried his best to lead and did it magnificently. His reward for that is a manager now who is getting the very best out of him.

It’s a similar situation with Scotland. Gordon Strachan is desperate for Brown to continue playing international football for as long as he possibly can.

Whether that happens, only time will tell.

Broony has made it clear he’s worried his body won’t be able to handle the summer fixtures which would rob him of a break before the start of next season.

It’s understandable he feels that way. At 31, Broony isn’t as indestructible as he would have felt as a kid coming through.

But I don’t think he’ll have many regrets — if any — when he thinks back on his career.

Could he have gone down to England and played Premier League football? Of course he could.

Brendan said he’d have walked into his Liverpool team and I don’t think he’d have said that unless he really meant it.

But Brown won’t end his career and wonder what might have been, no chance.

Okay, he could have made himself a shed-load more money by going down south and financially he’d be a lot better off by the time he hung up his boots.

But money can’t buy you everything — and playing for Celtic is something that is priceless anyway.

Trust me on this. It’s not easy walking away from that football club because of the feeling you get every time you pull on that special jersey.

No, Broony will regret nothing because he’s a humble boy who will be more than satisfied with his lot.

He’s not got an ego or an over-inflated idea of his own importance or worth. He’s a lad from Fife who made it to the top with the best and biggest club in the country, in my opinion.

Like I say, I can’t see Celtic ever building a stand in his name or a statue being unveiled outside the stadium.

That said, his arms-out ‘Broony’ pose would probably look great in bronze.

Great achievement for Broony to reach that many games for the club. Not many players get to that in modern football. Tremendous servant.

His goal against Hapoel is one of my favourites from the last few seasons. Such a huge goal.

    Quotes
But what of the done deal at Rangers that was alleged by various radio stations?
"It just shows you radio stations talk just as much crap as you do. Everyone was saying I had signed for Rangers when I was sitting in my house. They said I was at Murray Park."
Scott Brown to a laughing press pack at his unveiling (2007)

"Some people want to change him but that's just nonsense. You will never do that, it's impossible. He is a character and that's the way he plays, he's in your face and he can't keep his mouth shut at times but he is such an endearing boy when you work with him and, okay, he has other parts to his character that are a little bit, well, different but he is a great boy to work with, a great boy to have around and he is a great example. You talk about us having a core of players and he is one of them."
Craig Levein (Scotland manager) laughs at the idea that a certain amount of mellowing would do Brown more good (2010)

The attributes that make the Scotland midfielder a fit for the Celtic captaincy may sometimes escape outsiders but Izaguirre is gushing over what Brown brings to the squad dynamic. Sharing hour upon hour of gym-time with the fun-loving Fifer, who was building up his fitness following ankle surgery, has the full-back beaming from ear to ear.
“He is crazy, crazy,” says Izaguirre, the phrase the only one he provides in English in the course of an interview otherwise conducted through a Spanish interpreter. “Scott Brown, Kelvin Wilson, Mark Wilson, we were all in the gym together most days and we got support from each other. Spending time in the gym with Scott was crazy. He is very funny, but I think he is a very good captain, he gives us all a lot of support.
“He is always a happy person and is one of a kind in a way. He is always first into training and first to show the rest of the team the way. He supports everybody, and the experience he has of playing here with Celtic and knowing other big players helps. The leadership he shows and the charisma he has is contagious in a way.”
Emilio Izaguierre on Scott Brown in interview with The Scotsman (Jan 2011)

"It was nice to have Broony back and his madness about the changing room as well. You can come into training cheesed off and Broony puts a smile on your face. He gives us energy & it runs through the team."
    Kelvin Wilson (May 2013)

    Interviewer
: "So what's the difference between Scottish Premiership and League One."
Scott Brown: "I don't know. I haven't played in League One...If you come along and watch us or watch them (Sevco) on telly you will see there's a big difference."
    Scott Brown (2014)

"Scott is a leader and it is fantastic to have him back. In the first 10 I just had to start laughing. He was tackling the whole pitch."
Ronny Deila on Scott Brown (2014)

“Someone threw a pie at me and I was going to eat it but it fell out of my hands. That’s probably just as well because the gaffer wouldn’t have liked it – there’ s too many carbs in it."
Scott Brown after match v Aberdeen where one of their fans threw a pie at him after he scored (May 2015)

"I enjoy playing with Scott. He does all the ugly side of the game which sometimes he doesn't get credit for.
"But you definitely see it when you play alongside him. Anyone partnering Scott knows the job he does and how valuable he is to this squad.
"He is definitely good enough to be playing somewhere like down south. We've seen it at international and Champions League level what a top-class player he is.
"Does he get the credit he deserves? I don't know. When you play alongside him and watch him closely you can see the job he does."
Charlie Mulgrew on Scott Brown (2015)

“Scott does his talking on the field.”
Brendan Rodgers on being Scott Brown after Celtic 5-1 win over TheRangers (Sep 2016), followed Huns new 'big' signing Joey Barton who had been bigging himself up on twitter and mouthing about Scott Brown. Brown had him in his back pocket the whole day and we all laughed.
