Yeah right, as if controlling a game against one of the biggest names in world football in the biggest club competition in the world means you're a good footballer.

    Get a grip Slaw:rolleyes:

Brown form since returning from injury has been abysmal .
If there has been an altering motive for his poor displays then the guy should be ashamed of himself as we all know he is capable of far greater performances .

How many times does he have to relinquish possession before everyone realises what a waste of a wage he really is? Even when his passes reach their target they are always over hit, causing one of our other players to take a touch they shouldn't need to and therefore slowing the play down. His general play is * chronic.

It has a knock on effect to the rest of the team as well. You can visibly see how difficult it is for us ( and Scotland ) to build any sort of high tempo move when he is involved, and his general play makes everyone around him nervous. How must an 18 year old Tierney feel when he sees his captain giving it away in big games time after time?

This is the guy who is supposed to take the pressure off the younger players. People bang on about his leadership and his influence around the place. If he's that good at it let him do it behind the scenes, just not on the football park and certainly not for upwards of 25k a week.

Leadership isn't always vocal. Leadership is making the right pass when we're under pressure. Leadership is having the intelligence to slow the tempo of the game down when we're up against it. Leadership is concentrating on your own game instead of trying to stare out the opposition who then proceed to run you ragged for 120 minutes. Ask anybody that's played football at any decent level. The first thing you look for in a player when you're on the park is someone who will protect the ball when you give it to them and someone who will safely return it without any fuss.

This is the captain of Celtic we're talking about for * sake. The least you expect is he can pass the ball ten yards without making an * of it. There will be junior players all over the country who would be ashamed to possess the technical ability he has. I'm not questioning the guys workrate, he has been a good servant but Jesus Christ, enough is enough.

For the teams sake he should be dropped but people quickly forget how big and important he has been for us, was POTS for me last season and has been key in Europe for us having that fight and drive in the middle of the pitch (which has obviously been missing since returning from injury).
Just needs a good rest, I'd take him out the team just now and give him time off till pre-season.

He is on the decline massively, he should no longer be next season a first name on the team sheet. Current captain or not.

He could make the move to being club Captain, sure Tom Boyd done the same.

Broony still has something to offer us as a player, he's not the lynchpin anymore though, or shouldn't be.

Why is everyone jumping the gun?

He had a long injury layoff and has come back off the pace. It's not unheard of ffs. Let's see how he is next season before judging his decline.

It's amazing how we turn on more experienced players as soon as they have a bad patch.

We definitely shouldn't be relying on him like we do just now though. For his own sake he needs players in his position to take the load off and give him proper recovery time.

He has that degenerative condition as well, that will need to be managed better as he goes along.

He's riddled with injuries and is in his 30's now. He's not going to get any better, the best thing to do would be to find a decent replacement for him that will gradually take his place over the next season

No doubt. We shouldn't have to rely on any one player. I don't disagree with that.

But the hyperbole regarding his "decline" is * ridiculous.

    * great post :50::50:

Scott Brown is one of the most overrated captains in world football. So many of our fans are deluded, its cringeworthy.

I don't think it is, he is declining of that there is no doubt, lost yards of pace, lost his engine, picking up silly fouls. He is not the type of player than once they get into their 30s they actually improve because due to a lack of pace they then rely on their other attributes like passing, touch, vision, goal scoring. Brown unfortunately doesn't have these to fall back on.

When you cannot count upon your captain to raise his game - one which is tailor made for a player of his ferocity - the how the * can you depend on him in future?

He may have good influence at the club, but on the park he currently has zip.

I have to believe Broony is still not back at 100% after his injury. He looks so off the pace at the moment and when Broony is on his game that is never an accusation you can level at him.

I still cant get over his limp penalty.
He should have been first up, and blootered it at 80mph right down Foderinghams throat to lay down a marker, instead of going at number 4. Its one thing being the loud jack the lad type captain if you walk the walk as well as talk the talk, but he didnt.

Even though he has been out of favour recently, Mulgrew led by example going first, when it should have been him.
