A great captain and had a fantastic career but why would he play a part on trophy day?
Calmac has done a great job as captain all season and all focus should be on him and the current team now.

 

Definitely Paulie, Calum has been the beating heart of our club this season but it would be good to see Broony just being there in any capacity, Broony being the man that he is would know that and give Calum and the rest of the team their place

Jamesy could become most successful if he keeps going a couple more seasons.

I think a symbolic ‘passing of the torch’ could be the angle. It’s not like he receiving the trophy, just presenting it.

Also, it’s simply not right that because of covid he was cheated out of a final moment with our support.

It might be a bit unconventional but the last 24 months have been very unique.

 

See where you're coming from here. Maybe not handing the trophy, but I'd expect CalMac would be keen for Scott to be present on the day in some capacity. It would be * beautiful for the man to make an appearance.

As said I thought the 9 in a row (2nd time) was a bit meh, covid pish, celebrations zilch.

He should have took his final year here tbh. Hope we take him back as a coach or something but this years trophy is calmacs. He can come unfurl the flag on flag day as a guest of honour though.

 

We all love Scott Brown and he's saying all the right things.....obviously angeling for a coaching job.

But we always moan about the old pals act like what just happened employing Lawell's boy there....so we couldnt take Scott back and keep moaning about it

He definitely shouldn’t be coming back in the extreme short term IMO. He should go out and get some diverse experience and let McGregor have his time.

If he returns at some point it should be on merit. I’m confident he can do that so it shouldn’t be a controversial statement.

The important thing IMO is to let time pass and for him to go and learn elsewhere. If Rodgers is offering him any experience he should jump at it, for example.

 

Celtic legend, Scott Brown this weekend announced his retirement from playing after a lengthy and silver-laden career – the vast majority of it in the Hoops.

Here we take short look at his career – the green, white and silver bit.

LIKE birds of a feather, Scott Brown and trophies stick together – and if he had silverware in mind when he left Hibernian for Celtic in 2007, then he certainly made the correct move.

The then 22-year-old arrived at the Hoops with a League Cup medal already in his back pocket, thanks to Hibs defeating Kilmarnock 5-1 in the 2006/07 final. That was just a few months before he made the decision to drive along the M8 and swap the green and white of the Hibees for that of Celtic.

Then the trophies started rolling in – 22 in all at the Hoops to add to his medal from Easter Road, so the road to Paradise was indeed paved with silver.

The first was the 2007/08 title, his starter for 10 in all, and, of course, the final nine of those came all in a row.




Broony added to his League Cup tally in 2008/09 with a 2-0 win over Rangers, and that was followed by wins over Dundee United (2014/15, 2-0), Aberdeen (2016/17, 3-0), Motherwell (2017/18, 2-0), Aberdeen (2018/19, 1-0) and Rangers (2019/20, 1-0). Each of those finals was won without losing a single goal and the last four were won consecutively.



The first of his six Scottish Cup medals was won in the 2010/11 final with a 3-0 win over Motherwell, and that was followed by wins over Hibernian (2012/13, 3-0), Aberdeen (2016/17, 2-1), Motherwell (2017/18, 2-0), Hearts (2018/19, 2-1) and Hearts again (2019/20, 4-3 on pens after 3-3 draw). And, like the League Cup, the last four were consecutively.



So that’s it, 22 trophies, 10 league titles, six Scottish Cups and six League Cups – nine-in-a-row, the Invincible Treble and the Quadruple Treble, an astounding achievement.

Amazingly, on average, in every 28th Celtic game, Broony won a trophy!

 

Now that Scott Brown has retired from the playing side of the game, he can take stock of a magnificent career – one in which he became a Celtic legend.

A hundred years from now, supporters and historians will peruse his story and stats, and hold him in the same regard as current fans do when they look back at the likes of Jimmy Quinn, Patsy Gallacher, Jimmy McGrory and a host of other legendary Celts including the Lisbon Lions.

Here we look back at the career of one of the most decorated Celts ever.

PRE-PARADISE
There’s not many players who have both sets of fans cheering when they score a goal, but that’s exactly what happened when Scott Brown scored for Hibernian in his very last outing for the Edinburgh club. Celtic were the visitors for the last game of the term and were leading 1-0 thanks to former Hibee, Derek Riordan scoring in the 56th minute. Just four minutes later, Brown equalised and, thanks to his imminent move to the Hoops, both sets of fans in green and white celebrated the goal. To be fair, though, the Celtic End at Easter Road didn’t cheer much when Ivan Sproule scored the winner for Hibs in the 90th minute. Just three weeks earlier at the same venue, Brown was being cheered by Rangers fans in the 3-3 draw as they were convinced the midfielder was on his way to Ibrox.




WHAT KIND OF PLAYER WAS HE?
He was the kind of player that most clubs would give their eye teeth to have anywhere in the team – on or off the park. He was a one-man Huddle and if you could combine a box-to-box midfielder with a brick wall and no shortage of skill, Scott Brown is what you would come up with. Tenacious and inspiring in equal measures, his never-say-die attitude to every single thing put in front of him played a massive part in Celtic’s astounding success over his captaincy. There were no problems to him, only solutions. Nothing short of 100 per cent concentration and focus etched his face in the tunnel ahead of every game and his team-talks in the Huddle, seen but never heard by every Celtic fan watching, made the other 10 players listening know what it was to wear the club crest. They also realised that the next 90 minutes would be the most important of their lives – until the next game.


HIGHLIGHT?
Sometimes he had more highlights packed into one season than most players have in a lifetime in the game – in fact, several times, in fact make that four times. A Treble is nothing more than a pipedream to most players – a Quadruple Treble is off the radar, to lead your team-mates to 12 consecutive trophies – 12 out of 12 – is beyond fantasy itself. As much as Scott Brown would have enjoyed his first two trophies with the Hoops, the other 20 were won as captain, and that surely must add that special sparkle to the glean of the silverware – and there aren’t that many more people, either from Celtic’s history or world football that we can ask about that. So we’ll just have to presume it’s a good feeling.



LOW POINT?
There is a temptation to leave this section blank, but what are highs if not a gauge with which to measure the lows. There weren’t many, after all, on average after every 28 games for Celtic somebody handed Scott Brown a trophy. That doesn’t leave a lot of space for low points, but after nine-in-a-row and four successive Trebles, his final term in the Hoops paled compared to what had gone before. However, even then, there was the glint of a silver lining in the cloud as the Quadruple Treble, although still clinched in 2020, was actually sealed in his final season with the club.


WHERE DID HE GO AFTER CELTIC?
In March of 2021, the announcement arrived that Scott Brown would be joining Aberdeen as player/coach after 14 years with Celtic. The former Hoops skipper left with the best wishes of everyone at Celtic Park, and the massive Hoops support were frustrated and saddened that due to Covid restrictions they couldn’t give one of the club’s greatest ever servants, the send-off he fully deserved.

AND ANOTHER THING?
That previously-mentioned Scott Brown stat of receiving a trophy every 28 games is actually even more astounding when the matches are restricted to the domestic games they were won in, and he basically picked up a trophy every 21-and-half games – 22 trophies in 473 domestic games. Now, he did score a few crackers in his time with the Hoops, but with 44 domestic goals, Scott Brown picked up a trophy on average for every two goals he scored. Compare that with all-time Celtic legend Jimmy McGrory who won a trophy for every 78 goals he scored – not a bad return for Mr Brown.
