IMO.. this is complete bullshit. :97: Every game i struggle to find something Ledley does to contribute, granted last game he was ok and on the odd occasion i may notice something, but you only have to glance at the field to see brown putting the opposition under all sorts of pressure and let's face it, their probably * themselves at the thought of Brown tackling them.

Totally agree. Think he is a fine squad member and deserves his place in the first-team, but I don't think he should be one of our 'key' men and certainly not our captain.

Oh, and btw Hammer, I had to giggle when I saw Brown was in your sig haha.

I think once Broon and fans embrace the fact that he is not an attacking midfielder and a player more in the mold of Lenny then he will be much more appreciated by fans. I think with our current squad, with the skilled players such as Ki, Paddy, Forrest, that we need Broons toughness and bottle in the side.

John Collins was an attack minded midfielder, Scott Brown is a defensive minded midfielder. It is ridiculous to compare Collins to Brown.

How many goals did Neil Lennon get playing defensive midfield for Celtic ?
    Any more than Brown ?

Same could be said about our victories this season. Him being on the team could be a factor why we have won our games this season - doesn't need to be though. Same about our lost league titles.

We have been trying to find the right midfield combo for 4 years and even today we still ain't completely sure which combo is the best. Managers have tried to build a team around Brown and have failed - no wonder, if you let the most expensive signing since 2002 (if I'm not mistaken) on the bench, people would be raging.

All he does is get needless bookings, and the occasional red

One of the worst first touches I've ever seen from a Celtic midfielder.

I still can't believe this is an argument. Our midfield is powderpuff without Broony.

The closing down he does and harrying of the opponents is vital. Look at the Motherwell game the other day, how many misplaced passes did you see from the Motherwell midfield? That was down to the pressure Brown was putting them under.

Hew reads the game like no other in our team and has a superb engine.

Our season went downhill when he got injured; since he came back we have had two clean sheets because he takes pressure off the defence by protecting them.

I can't believe there is even a question against him. He is a key player.

I don't like how goals and assist statistics get used to bring Scott Brown down, it just doesn't make sense. You don't judge a player, who has a ball-winning role (defensive) in our team, on how many goals and assists he gets.

I mean, you wouldn't judge a player like Lee Cattermole for how many assists he gets, because he's primarily a defensive player, who has a ball-winning role in the Sunderland midfield. I'm not comparing to two players, I'm just using Cattermole's ball-winning role as an example.

Lee Cattermole this season, has played 17 games and managed a total of 0 goals and 0 assists, according to the ESPN website. Now, he has played the majority of these games in centre midfield, in a ball-winning role, tracking back, making tackles and all the rest of it. Does the fact he hasn't managed to assist or score any goals, mean he's a terrible player? There's countless other players, for better teams, in bigger leagues - who are deployed in ball-winning roles and manage very little goals and assists, some of these players are world-class.

I'm not comparing Brown's ability to any of these players, just comparing their stats in the same role, judging Scott Brown on assists and goals just doesn't make sense. To be honest, I am not Scott Browns biggest fan but not because he doesn't provide anything going forward, we've got 3 other players who are deployed in midfield to make a difference going forward.

It's not the combo that has been wrong in the last four years, it is the system. We play two central midfielders with two lightweight wingers beside them, and as a result we invariably get overun by combative and robust opposing teams, who stick five in the midfield. It is not rocket science and it is staggering the amount of Celtic managers who have failed to realise this discrepancy and correct it.

Scott Brown functioned perfectly in a Hibs midfield central trio of Brown, Thomson and Beuzelein. Until we repeat this formula we will never see the best of Scott Brown in a Celtic jersey.

There is simply no answer to that. Without Broony, Lenny's team just doesnt work at all. He is absolutely vital. We essentially do twice as well when he plays. He is an automatic name on the sheet for me and has been most of the time for our last 3 managers. Anyone who cant see how important he is blind.

The vast majority of the time he is played in exactly the same role as Lenny i.e. the DM role. Noone goes on about Lenny's poor assists and goals stats when he was a player. He actually has as good or better than average goals rate for a DM compared to most in the past be it Peter Grant, Lenny, Hartley. nGuemo etc etc
