Fair play to him, didn't think he'd be leaving after signing the new deal, thought he'd be happy in as that 3rd choice position.

He'd be good fit in most spl teams, Dundee United really need a keeper after this season, and bonus of it would * off Dundee fansq

Good luck to him. Thought he did OK when called upon really. Think he got quite harsh treatment from some, although did make a few mistakes always gives his best.

Counts as home grown and is third choice, makes sense tbh.

CELTIC goalkeeper Scott Bain has put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension.

Understudy to Joe Hart, the 31-year-old was under contract at Parkhead until next summer.

Bain was tipped to leave the club after the signing of Benjamin Siegrist last summer, but the Swiss keeper has endured a difficult first season with injuries.

Now the three-times-capped Scotland keeper has done enough to convince Ange Postecoglou he deserves a new deal.

Signed from Dundee by Brendan Rodgers in 2018, Bain has made 74 appearances for the Parkhead club.

I have the feeling he's good in the dressing room and clearly happy to be 2nd or 3rd choice. Helps that he qualifies as homegrown in Scotland too

Wonder what contract he’s on, hasn’t he signed a few extensions now?

His contract was due to end next year, his 4year deal was due to end last year.
My guess is 3rd choice keeper you don't want to be wasted on a foreign spot.

Tbh happy with that. Helps us with homegrown quota and gives us a chance to look for a proper successor to Hart though it would probably be at the expense of Siegrist.

I thought he extended a few months ago? He's a good 3rd choice keeper for us, has good experience at league level and by all accounts is a retty sound guy in the team, fits Homegrown

Fine as 3rd choice and allows us to loan out Oluwayemi again. His loan to Cork has been a disaster with injury and needs game time. Think plan may have been to have him as 3rs choice of he had got some game time out on loan. Pretty sure he counts as home grown now

I like Bain, he is a good steady goalkeeper, far better and safer than Barkas. It suggests to me Siegrist could be on his way out, and a new goalkeeper incoming.

Looking at him tonight at Broony and Lustigs night, he's important in that dressing room.

    Also homegrown.

    We're running out of them.

Always felt people's biggest issue with him is that he's a 2nd keeper that's been good enough to win his place at times, but not good enough to be first choice. And * slaughtered him for it

    Confusing one for me.

I get the quota argument (although don't fully agree with it), but he still has next season left on his deal, he didn't NEED to sign another deal surely?

As for the quota, there's more than enough surely in the squad as it stands as well? Unless we are about to have a mass clear out of Scottish players.
McGregor, Ralston, Vata, Forrest, summers, Mikey, Welsh, Tobi - all count as club grown.
Turnbull and Mooy as home grown.
Not sure Bain is NEEDED to hit that quota.
Unless we are about to see Welsh, Forrest, Mikey all shown the door?

As third choice, I'd rather see Tobi (or whoever) given that "chance" and we got rid of bain and seigrist with a view to sign a quality backup keeper that looks to push Hart on/take over from him.

Bain extending beyond the next 12 months just screams of us not actually looking to long term replace Hart.

The likes of Vata and Summers are on the B list so don't need to count towards the homegrown quota. Essentially if we did put them on the A list it would effectively be the same as registering 23 players as they would have been eligible to play regardless.

    Mooy isn't homegrown.

Per wikipedia, ''UEFA defines locally-trained or 'homegrown' players as those who, regardless of their nationality, have been trained by their club or by another club in the same national association for at least three years between the ages of 15 and 21''.

Mooy played for St Mirren in 2010-11 and 2011-12. That's 2 seasons. Not to mention, he was 22 years old in 2012. I believe the second season doesn't count either way.

Regarding the quota argument in general, we are capped at 17 non-homegrown players. This means there's an opportunity cost involved when signing non-homegrown players. Having a homegrown 3rd keeper allows us to invest in other areas of the squad. I mean, 3rd choice keepers hardly ever play, whereas backup outfield players are way more useful.
