People are pretty stupid when it comes to this. Some Scotland fans, like myself, think they have every right to play for whatever country the associate the most with because nationality is a complex issue.

Some hate that we could have had two very good young footballers and we missed out to their heritage, not a small part due to our own incompetance.

Some others, and we've all met them, hate absolutely anything to do with Ireland and view them as wee * traitor * and would like nothing more for them to die - the same sentiments that led to people sending Neil Lennon bombs in the post in this country, not that long ago, if anyone needs reminding.

Stop grouping everybody into the one group, life doesn't work like that.

Using Maloney as the main example because I don't really know the full story behind the rest of the players... :smiley-laughing002:

He was born in Malaysia to Scottish parents and he grew up in Scotland, yes? He's Scottish.

McGeady and McCarthy were both born in Scotland to Scottish parents and were brought up in Scotland...

But they weren't born in Scotland. They only qualify through their heritage.

What's the distinction? And why do you get to decide it for them?

Only thing that makes me angry at them is Scotland missed out on two great players, definite starters for us Mcgeady and Anya on the wings and Mcarthy and Brown in midfield would destroy any Ireland team.

It would be hilarious if McGeady and McCarthy were both to score in an Ireland victory. Imagine the rage within some of the supports that gave them abuse. I still don't think either would have received anywhere near the same levels of grief if they had opted to play for Australia for arguments sake.

There will be plenty of huns in the Scotland end on Friday, your also kidding yourself on if you think the abuse will stop at just a few boos.

Of course it wouldn't be the same. Ireland is a neighbour and neighbouring countries have rivalries. Australia means * all to Scotland.

When did I say his comments were fine?

Yes, yes you are. You started an extremely condescending thread about racism and hatred towards a country in football. You then went onto use a derogatory term to describe the football association of a country.

Ireland and Scotland are not rivals in my opinion, certainly not what I would classify as rivals.

There's a clear distinction. Maloney's links to Scotland are much stronger than McGeady and McCarthy's links to Ireland. They were born here and they grew up here to Scottish parents...

I don't get to decide for them, under the current FIFA rulings they're perfectly entitled to play for Ireland however stupid those rulings are. If it was up to me I'd limit international eligibility to no further than a parents nation.

McGeady and McCarthy made their decision and they'll be judged on it. If things were done properly there's no doubt in my mind they'd both be starting for their native land on Friday night because they are both quality players.

So because Paul Paton and James Mc pake are not good enough to play for Scotland and choose the North of Ireland. THey get of this argument. Why didn't Mc queen lambast these players also. And don't give me the * Scotland aren't playing N.I.

That's a weird one for me.

I've always wondered how Celtic supporters could stand shoulder to shoulder with fans of clubs like the old Huns, Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen, Motherwell, Kilmarnock etc at Hampden for Scotland games, when those same supporters were singing ditties about the 'Famine being over', child abuse, 'singing in your chapels' etc only the week before, and will go back to it the next week!

Who am I judge though, eh!
