    An overhead power cable is made up of 12 strands of aluminium placed side by side and twisted together. Each strand has resistance 4x10-8 ohms per metre. What would be the total resistance of a length of the cable which is 1km long?

    Physics can * off and die.

    Lol same thing in my head, only problem ive got is my tutorial teacher randomly picks people to ask a question and won't let you sit back down till you have answered the question. * myself at the possibility of embarrassing myself for 10 minutes standing there going, "seriously i have no idea what this question is even asking can i sit back down now before you can see the sweat that is currently running down my forehead..."

    Answers 3.33x10-6 ohms.

    Its a parallel circuit so

    1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3....

    So you get 12/4x10-8

    1/Rt = 12/4x10-8

    Rt = 4x10-8/12

    Rt = 3.33x-9

    Then you times that by 1000 as its 1km and you get 3.33x10-6

    Thanks for the help!

    Just a little stuck with this question.

    So I know that the hf = Φ.

    h = Planck's constant (6.63x10^-34)

    f = 2 x 5.6x10^14

    so hf = (6.63 × 10^-34) × (2 × 5.6 × 10^14) = 7.4x10^-19

    I know that the maximum kinetic energy goes by the equation Ekmax = hf - Φ

    By looking at the mark scheme, I know that Φ is 3.7x10^-19 which is exactly half of hf.

    So yea basically i'm really confused, this should be easy but I just can't understand why Φ is half of hf...

    I realise this is a bit of a long shot but if someone could explain i'd be grateful haha. Cheers :50:

    Not my area of work mate, but the bits i have high lighted, if hf = Φ then
    hf-Φ = 0. Think youve got your equations wrong mate.

    N also why do you have to times the frequency by 2? Might be why your getting double the answer?

    Cheers for the answers lads, worked it out.

    It was hf0, which is the minimum frequency, so I didn't need to double it.

    Got my equations slightly mixed up as a result.

    3.7x10^-17 J was the final answer :50:

    Right bumping this, stuck on a stats question, i think the answer is obvious but just to make sure.

    How do you know if an estimator is unbiased, when the coefficient's true value s not known?

    Im guessing that you simply won't know if its unbiased since the formula for an unbiased estimator is when E(estimator)(X) = UX(true value of x)

    Just wondering if anyone knew what the answer would be, cheers.

    Alright guys, I could use your help. Got an interview for a Computing Science course at Strathclyde University later. They told us it wasn't a selection interview, but nevertheless, i want to make a good impression.
    Is there any interesting questions i could ask about the course at this interview?
    Cheers.

    Well in mate. I had applied for that back in 6th year, never went to the interview though. My mate did and he said they were brand new, especially the course leader :50:
