    This.

Sign a * striker, left back and centre half before even thinking about a midfielder.

I'm very happy with this, only if it's not our only business before the window shuts.

This is an optional extra, not what we need just now.

Barrel scraping is just what I was thinking..

    Shows NO European ambition.

Buying up more players from spl clubs to just sit on bench at best or get loaned back!

Completely uninterested in this as a signing.... And unfortunately sounds like closer to a done-deal than a rumour..

    This.

Young Scottish players with bags of potential should be snapped up by us regardless of what we need right now. He either flourishes and becomes a mainstay or doesn't make the grade and moves on. It's low risk with potential high reward and shows we are trying to take care of the future, not just what's happening right now.

I'd be delighted to see young Scottish players be brought on by us and buzzing around in the hoops rather than watch some of the expensive foreign flops.

Because of the UCL exit, some people are panicking and looking for the quick fix. That's fine, but this isn't that (a quick fix.) It's looking to the future.

I'm not sure signing a young player with lots of potential and then loaning him back to his current club could be viewed by anyone as a Willow Flood type of singing.

Though of course lots will :celt_2:

BBC are reporting on this now.

Celtic bid for Ryan Christie from Inverness Caledonian Thistle

Celtic have made an offer in the region of £500,000 for Inverness Caledonian Thistle midfielder Ryan Christie.

And the Scottish champions are willing to loan the player back to their Scottish Premiership rivals until the end of the season.

Caley Thistle manager John Hughes had earlier said he could not afford to let the 20-year-old leave immediately but was an open to a sale with a loan back.

"We have to do what's right for Inverness," he told BBC Scotland.

"We are a selling club, no doubt about that, and we would never step in anybody's way. It would be the same with Ryan Christie.

"But, right at this moment in time, he's under contract to Inverness and long may that continue.

"The ideal scenario would be, if he ever did move, we would try to keep him here just to buy ourselves some time and keep that quality at the club."

Caley Thistle's injury troubles deepened this week with the news that winger Aaron Doran is likely to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

He joins Dean Brill, Richie Foran, Josh Meekings, Greg Tansey, James Vincent and Gary Warren as long-term absentees.

Hughes does not want to contemplate the loss of Christie as well but said he expects clubs around the country, including England, to be "sniffing about him".

Christie, whose contract runs until May 2016 with an option for the club to extend for a further year, has already played for Scotland Under-21s and his manager has tipped him to win senior caps in the future.

The Inverness-born player, the son of former Caley Thistle manager and player Charlie Christie, who himself played for Celtic, was awarded Scottish Football Writers' Association Young Player of the Year after helping the club win the Scottish Cup for the first time and finish third in the Premiership last season.

"For someone with that technique and talent of Ryan and now cementing his place on a regular basis in the first team, he is doing very well and holding his own," added Hughes.

That's all very well and good but when the only transfer market activity since qualifying for European competition is a player from the Scottish second division and a potential bid (is it real?) for another young player untested at a high level then questions need to be asked.

Also both players operate in an area where we are already overloaded with competition.

    We need some * experience.

Far too early for that IMO. If it was an appeasement signing we'd be tabling the bid on Monday and dragging it out.

Also (personal opinion) Christie is far more talented.

True but we don't know what will happen until it actually does.

I'm of the mind this won't be our only business between now and Tuesday.

If it is, then I won't be * happy.

Aye, that's a good point. Flood was the epitome of a panic signing, it was a someone, anyone moment.

The fee quoted is half a million though.

Considering the market we operate in that money would best spent in other areas of the team.
