I think Ireland and Scotland both beat South Africa. If Scotland are at their best.

Last year's Gallagher Premier league started with 13 teams, the next season will start with 10 as London Irish have now gone * up. Is rugby going to end up just being a side hobby for dentists and vets again? People will lose interest. English Rugby doesn't even allow teams from 2nd tier to promote. Promoting and relegation battles are exciting things.

Rugby could be a hobby for dentists and vets, but here in the West Country it still has its appeal mate.Don’t know where it will end up, but around here if you can’t play rugby, then you played football. Can’t see that changing, still get about 13k average at kingsholm. :50:

Gloucester had a player I'd always see around Ealing Broadway, Jordi Reid, you couldn't miss him as he was built like a brick * house with dirty white man dreads, which he's now shaved.
I think the sport needs to revamp, get people more interested. They managed to get people more invested 20 years ago but I don't think they have tried in a while, even cricket seems to have tried with 20-20 and the hundred.

Maybe have two less players on the field for more gaps, and speed the scrums up ……now that reminds me of something…. :fear:

No expert on it, but plenty around here seem to blame the influx of defensive coaches coming in from league. Also the amount of substitutes allowed lets a player know he can put everything into just 40 minutes, then he’s off. If they had to last longer, maybe the size of them wouldn’t be so big and encourage a more running game, rather than the brutality it is now with centres over 20 stone.

I see the Trailfinders team all the time, ground is just down the road, wouldn't want one of them running into me. They are tall, muscular and not strong with flab propper amazing physique. Would be like running into a brick wall.

Had to look them up , same league as hartpury. Look a good side, just the ground holding them back ??

You can't promote from the league, apparently no team has required ground. But with only 10 top tier sides they may need to relax it. You can't have a top flight playing only 18 games.

Does raise an interesting question if hartpury won the league and got promotion. They are Gloucesters feeder club, it would be interesting if one needed a result at the end of the season for example. Maybe like the two redbull sides, playing against each other in Europe a few years back if I remember right.

South Africa destroyed the All Blacks on the weekend. They'll be hard to beat. Would love to see Ireland win it.

Hard to see anyone other than France or South Africa winning, outside of them Ireland are the closest but it will be * of a job for them to do it imho.

With the way the pools are set, it´s a bit uneven to say the least.

That said, I say France. Home turf is always a factor. Ireland and South Africa are contenders as well.
And New Zealand will most likely show up once the action starts.
Scotland is in the toughest group, a shame since they are well improved of late.

Looking forward to it, should be a good few weeks of action!

Some serious recency bias towards SA because of the result at the weekend.

NZ beat them comfortably last month and won the Rugby Championship.

Scotland have enough in them to beat SA or Ireland. I don’t think we beat both but we beat one of them.

France are favourites for me. Terrifying team. NZ second favourites followed by Ireland and SA.

That about nails it. The draw has left the pools very uneven with all of the major contenders on one side of the draw and Ireland, South African and Scotland in the proverbial group of death. France maybe marginal favourites with home advantage but really its tough to call.

Here we go! Kick off tonight. Was convinced France would do it but few injuries and I think that’s going to determine the winner. Whoever keeps most fit, wins. Best team Scotland have had in years and we end up in a * disaster group! * it, as long as we beat Romania…
