Australia coming in without any warm up games didn't help them.

Are you Rugby League fan Gasrex ? I agree it should have been held up North wit job. I think it is a brilliant game but I am not sure you can sell it to people who just aren't interested.

I will be interested to hear LB's views on this.I know he is involved in the game and is very enthusiastic about it but looking at the world cup it does seem to me to be a bit of a farce. Absolutley no reason why any country can't compete but if the 4th fav's are 200-1 to win it: it isn't going to be much of a comp.

I love Rugby Union but was introduced to League a couple of years ago and enjoy that too, so I thought I'd go as Cardiff is easy to get to from Bristol. I had a spare ticket (which cost £40) which I literally could not give away, had the game been played somewhere like Elland Road, there would have been a great crowd in a packed stadium.

when the world cup was given it was a joint venture with England & Wales being co-hosts ..I would have had the opening ceremony in Leeds like has been said , Elland Rd would have been full and the atmosphere would have been better . My Lad went yesterday he won a pair of tickets and was on the halfway line in the posh seats he said the atmosphere wasnt that great .
The World cup is really a 3 nation series with others added to make it and market it a world cup . I dont think it has been advertised well they sold out to a PPV TV station when it should have been available to view by the masses .
Wales have had a game in Cardiff but i believe the millenium should have been chosen for the big hit semi finals instead of Wembley ...On a sidenote when are people going to realise that league will never take off in London .
The game needs a boost and im happy at being able to watch the likes of Slater, Williams, Thurston,Manu & Cronk perform in this country ..Wether the likes of these players will inspire the neutrals to go and watch league next year only time will tell .
Im working at a few of the games as an official and looking forward to that .....I hope the crowds pick up i am watching NZ v Samoa as i write this and the crowd looks healthy enough ..Scotland play 2 games in workington and i believe both are nearly sell outs ..

There is a game here in Bristol next week, USA v Cook Islands, I have a horrible feeling there will be less than 2000 there.
When I told some mates I was going to Cardiff for it, they didn't even know the world cup was on. I wasn't aware the game was on PPV, it should be on free to air- what a wasted opportunity.
Maybe if England get to the final interest will pick up.

If you want all the games the only way to do it is to subscribe to Premier Sports ( minimum subscription 2 months.) I think most( possibly all) of the England games are on the BBC. Not sure the sport is going to get that much coverage outside of Lancashire/Yorkshire no matter how well England do.

A fair assessment. I would pretty much agree with that. Am I right in thinking the announcement of who actually had the Tv rights was made fairly recently ? Wigan fan at work was telling me like yourself he subscribed to Premier Sports just for the World Cup but until a couple of weeks ago he didn't even know which channel it was going to be on. You are right about London I am sure there is a small hardcore of Rugby League fans in London but you can't just plonk a team down there and expect the locals to just take to them.

Are you supporting any particular nation LB or are you just hoping for a good tournament that will raise the profile of Rugby League? I think I would like New Zealand to win it again nothing against Australia but I really enjoyed the last final and always tend to go towards the underdog in most sports and this probably a two horse race.

Im just hoping for a successful tournament with good crowds ...Monday nights game was a stadium record , last nights game was the biggest crowd in workington for 25 yrs . so far there have been 6 games and 50% have been sell outs ...Saturdays England game is a sell out and the Australian game has only a few hundred tickets left .
I would love to see NZ win too but i feel the Aussies will prove too strong over the piece .

Just spoke to someone working at the Rovers ground tonight and they are expecting 6,000, so I'm very pleased to be proved wrong.

Well Scotland finished off their group games last night with a 22-8 victory over the USA , such is the nature of the competition scotland will only progress if Italy fail to beat Tonga on Sunday ...Scotland are unbeaten in the group stages :50:
