It's a myth that the Premiership has far better defenses. Look at all these headers Rooney has been scoring, while there have been some good ones the majority of them have been unmarked. Look at Torres goal today, completely unmarked by two of apparently the best centre backs in the world. The EPL is not the bench mark for players. He is doing unbelievably in Spain, why does he need to play in England to prove himself further?

This is the problem with people who support English teams, they think that the Premiership is the be all and end all because * Andy Gray tells them it is. Of all the players who are considered amongst the very best ever very few of them have played in England.

You have to assess whether it's poor marking or excellent movement off the ball. I reckon its more that rooney has worked on his aerial ability than defences getting worse, he was fairly poor at headers before this season

I worded that poorly, I wasn't referring to Rooney only when talking about him being unmarked, more talking about the defences, and how they fail to pick up men in the box, resulting in free headers. Ji Sung Park today is another example, completely free to wander between Jamie Carragher and Glen Johnson, two experienced 'top quality' defenders.. He has clearly improved in the air which is why he can take advantage of this poor defending like Torres and Drogba do.

My main point really was that it is a myth the the EPL has the best defences, just because they are the most physical doesn't mean they are the best, and this was just an example to emphasise it, as I said though it was poorly worded.

Agreed completely, physicality has nothing to do with defensive ability. Cannavaro is evidence of that

Never thought I'd say this but it's kind of a shame Ronaldo's missed so many matches this year. It would have been fun to watch good vs. evil play itself out in the scoring charts in La Liga.

Messi is a machine. His awareness of where the goal is, is second to none.

Messi at it again.. * *..

RE: Rooney, I'm pretty certain Ferguson demanded an improvement on his aerial game, because post Ronaldo, Man United were going to build a team around a Rooney spearhead. You can't have 1 up front while being poor in the air, so this massive improvement I am not surprised by. Also, when Ronaldo did leave I knew Rooney would be the one to step up and this he has done. I think the simple truth is though he doesn't have the technique of Messi..

Agreed, although while Rooney doesn't appear to have the same level of trickery as Messi, he still has great first touch and quick feet.

those gentlemen don't only score often, they also provide some assists.

    stats are from their leagues:

Messi 24 Games 25 Goals 9 Assists -> makes him top of the league in each categorie

    Ronaldo 18 Games 15 Goals 5 Assits

    Rooney 29 Games 26 Goals 3 Assists

I think some are getting carried away with his current form when talking about Messi, which is frightening I agree, but the greatest ever? When he translates it over half a dozen seasons and major championships at least that kind of talk can start.

5 years ago Ronaldinho was being spoke about in the same regard then found pies and dirty women.
