not on this years form imo rooneys been brilliant but i admit no one can touch messi his dribblin ability is amazing at times . drogbas not consistent enough for me plus he's a cheating , sulking big * , torres and villa would be soooo much better if they where in better teams though is villa not la ligas top scorer anyway ?

How does playing for a more prestigious team make you a better footballer?

I don't think so, under that logic Forlan should have outscored RvN at United however he only got 10 in 96. Now at Atletico he has 60 goals in 92 which is a better record than most of the striker at the elite clubs.

David Villa's performances for the National Team have not seen any significant rise despite playing with some of the best players in the world, in fact his scoring ratio is nearly exactly the same rate as with Valencia.

Great players need to be recognized for what they are rather than the club they played for. It's that King Henrik was only widely recognized as one of the greatest players of his generation after he left us and performed for Barca and Man United.

Messi gets the nod for me. Credit to Rooney he is having a great year and he really has matured as a pro over the last couple of seasons. Ronaldo love him or hate him he is one of the best players in the world. But I would easily take Messi or Rooney over that prima donna any day.

Messi for mine. But talk about bad career moves, 18 months ago I'd have had Kaka right up there top of heap.

Messi has been doing it consistently, This is the first season Rooney has been living up to the hype and has been different class, still not as good as Messi tho

They are all absolutely fantastic players. Really, some of the best the world has seen.

But you get the impression that Rooney doesn't have the same technical ability with a football than Ronaldo/Messi. Don't get me wrong, he is quality with the ball at feet, but Ronaldo and Messi are in a different league in terms of technique.

And it's Messi for me who just has that extra, outrageous footballing skill. So he edges it over Ronaldo, and the pair of them are a fair bit ahead of Rooney.

Messi by far. Let's not forget that Rooney plays in a league full of average defenders. It's easy to look good when you're given free header after free header.

technically messi is in a league of his own , ronaldo will do tricks and step overs all day and 9/10 times he will end up just passing the ball sideways he wont actually go past anyone and when he does goes past players its because of his speed and acceleration not skill , rooney uses his close control and power and strength to beat players not skill ,

messi everyday of the week. ronaldo and rooney are more about power and strength, but messi is about skill and flair.
