Do you have some info that we dont, you seem intent on claiming Rooney was injured coming into the tournament?

He claimed before the competition that he was fully fit for the world cup, so im assuming youre claiming he lied? Or has he since said he wasnt fit?

IMO, it wasnt that he was injured, purely that he was burnt out after the season he's just had, which is fair enough. Although you don't see the likes of Messi & Villa suffering from this.

To Jamesy, I think Xavi & Iniesta would have something to say about your list.

    David villa best striker.........:50:

Ronaldo and messi have been disapointing.

Rooney never looked right from the first game for whatever reason.

Quick mention for diego forlan for me he has been excellent.......:50:

But I said it before the tournament began, that's the point I was making. It's nothing to do with current form, or a bad tournament, it's to do with talent.

I'm not basing it on the fact that Rooney has had a bad tournament, but on the fact that Messi is a quite incredible player, and Rooney simply isn't.

i didnt put every world class player in the list , just whoever came into my mind, both 2nd tier imo below ronaldo and messi, happy now ?

And players lie about their fitness all the time especially to the media, everyone knew he's been carrying an ongoing ankle injury from munich, hasnt been the same since but hes was too important to leave out, same goes for torres and spain, clearly not 100% fit.

That may be the case, but who are any of us to know if he is fit or not, end of the day if he's declaring himself fit then he should be performing. Burnout IMO.

Thats what im saying, you cant blame him for a bit of burnout, but he said he was fully fit coming into the tournament so you would surely expect him to perform. At the very least, score a goal in the weakest group in the competition, or even an assist?!

    You believe what you like

His form deserted him when he got injured and he never got a proper rest for it.

Most players at the tournament can claim "burnout" for not performing since they play in Europe, do you think that is true?

You waited until after the tournament to jeer about how many people voted for Rooney. Thats easy.

Both players had good seasons, both players were useless in the World Cup. You are trying to slate one player, build the other up to the clouds despite the other never actually performing well at international level.

I don't think Messi had a bad world cup. It was quite good, he was instrumental in getting the Argies to the quarters. Just didn't get a goal.

Rooney was dreadful though, nothing worked out for him at all.

I would say Rooney did look burned out, not sure about injuries or that at all.

So where's Schweinsteger in the list :p

By the way Rooney is an incredible player, and on form he is just about up there with Messi, Ronaldo and Samaras, but his world cup was really bad. His team didn't help either, at least Argentina's was functioning.

no BIG players have performed to their best barr villa in SA .
ronaldo played for himself not the team
rooney had his problems whether it be injury or tiredness , plus the * ( barr gerrard ) that surrounded him.
Torres unfit or carrying an injury , bit of both imo
messi played better than the rest i mentioned but he just didnt get goin at all.
Kaka's been living of his reputation since 07, everytime i watch him im always let down , up there with messi and ronaldo when on form but christ its been a while.

Ronaldo (as a person I hate the guy!), but as a player he is the engine on RM, Rooney then Messi.
