This move might make sense because Celtic could risk paying £7 million on a player like this too make sure that we win the league this season and then in turn get the £10 million pound in for the champions league next season.

Edit : I've not worded it right but yous know what I mean.

What's the odds on this rumour coming out sometime in January.......

My mate just texted me and said he saw Robbie Keane in a taxi heading for Parkhead!

Oh if I had a pound for every time I'd heard that one :87:

He went back because he wanted to be playing week in week out, that is fact. I remember one game where they needed a goal and Rafa sent on Lucas instead of Keane, or was it El Zhar, but that was the final insult as Keane was used in a contract war between Benitez and the board over transfer policy etc Basically Rafa wanted full control over everything

Benitez leaves out Keane again | ESPNSTAR.com

Its fair to say mmmikey that I've been keeping better tabs on Keane than you have.

No Ireland wouldnt drop him unless fitness is an issue but he'd be solid * useless if he's not playing regularly in his natural position. Do you think he wants to go a WC 75% fit because of a lack of games? He's one player that needs to be playing regularly to maintain consistency and he know it himself, hence why he doesnt hang around to see how things pan out.

    1) Your wrong and there are several example of it
    2) He doesnt just want to make the team & he wants to be the best player on the field. He has a high expectation of himself.
    3) Who said he'd be taking a 50% wage hit? There are plenty of options available to Celtic to offer him a wage that he'd accept easily.

TBH if he jumps into a taxi from Tottenham and heads up to Barnet, say, then he is technically heading North which means he must be on his way to CP.

    It's obvious.

even if he is not getting game at spurs, roi would still make him 1st choice striker.

If you think so. Regardless, Keane got 19 games in the small time he was at Liverpool and scored 4 goals. He wasn't dropped in my opinion as a result of that power struggle, although that may have played a part. He simply wasn't getting goals. It took him till October to get his first and his expensive goal drought was commonly reported.

Not seen many myself. Care to elaborate?

All good proffesionals want to be playing regularly but invariably it comes down to a balance of money. He went from Liverpool to Spurs on I'd imagine the same wages and he was likely to get more games. I strongly suspect we can't compete wage-wise with Spurs for their Captain, plus the further indignity of playing in a lower level league. I'm sorry but I just can't see it. Finally if he did come he'd be 30 in the summer - another reason IMO not to break the bank.

Yea and he left them within 6 months of signing for them.

    @ mmmikey

Benitez didnt treat him right, between leaving him our of key games, leaving him out of match squads altogether, putting on midfielders and reserve strikers over him, substituting him & his preference to play a system that suited Gerrard & Torres. Seems strange to sign a £20M backup and expect him to be happy to be a bit part player. He wasnt and he got out at the earliest opportunity.

He still managed 10 goals in a unsettled season. Rooney only hit 12, Torres hit 14. They didnt exactly do waaay better and they didnt change clubs twice in a season. Not a bad season for a support striker

He left both Inter & Liverpool for first team football and he turned down Middlesborough for Coventry because they offered him regular first team football which he wanted.

Redknapp is pulling a Benitez on him and I doubt he'll accept it for long

The guy said on camera in a televised interview that he was a Liverpool fan and had supported them as a kid back in Ireland.

He IS at a smaller club as far as I am concerned. I don't ever see him playing for Celtic unless it's near the end of his career, when his best days are behind him...and personally at that point i would tell him 'no thanks'.

As Lawell has admitted in the past with Roy Keane; it pleases and appeases the large majority of Irish support to exploit AND that's the reason that this still has legs.
As for reality, it'll never happen UNLESS:

He accepts his best days of being a EPL player are behind him
    Redknapp doesn't rate him
Redknapp doesn't see him playing in his system
He takes a massive wage cut to Scotland
There's incentive to play in the SPL (image rights)

    and the main reason:

Redknapp fancies Scott Brown (not in a sexual way of course!!)

The only lure would be that he is almost GUARANTEED European football each season and he would get to play in the biggest (arguably) club game in the world.
