Levy was happy to give the Hoops' major shareholder the go-ahead to pursue the £65,000-a-week striker, then informed gaffer Redknapp about Celtic's stunning move.

Irish billionaire Desmond bankrolled the astonishing capture of Roy Keane from Manchester United in December 2005. And he will shell out the estimated £1,000,000 it will cost in basic wages for Keane to wear the Hoops until the end of May.
Celtic - forever ridiculed about a so-called biscuit tin mentality - also agreed a staggering £1million loan fee.
Redknapp added: "Celtic are paying all of his wages until the end of the season.

They have defenately dug deep on this deal.. hoping to pull the fans back into paradise.

    Absolutely magnificent signing.
Whether or not Keane does well here, whether or not you rate him... this has to be seen as a HUGE signal of intent by the board to turn this club into the force it deserves. It is mentioned so many times how the board made the mistake last season of not splashing out but cast your minds back to the summer right after Seville. THAT was the time to splash out on new players and give the Champions League a right good go.

The board have been criticised quite rightly and they deserved to see the crowds quickly stay away. However, well done Lawwel and co. Give us a top class team and we'll give you top class support.

Wow well credit where credit is due. Whether Desmond is funding part of Keane's wages or not the fact is the board actually came up with the goods this time. I never for a minute thought this was even something with any truth to it never mind something that might actually happen. Absolutely fantastic signing. At 29 he is basically right in his prime and having not played that much lately he should be fit, rested and chomping at the bit. If we can win tomorrow having Keane over the last 15 games gives us hope for this seasons title race. It is still a big ask given how far back we are and how hard it will be for so many new faces to gel but Keane is legit top quality.

Keane getting slated by the soccer pundits in Ireland this morning.......... step back for Keane, worst Celtic team in years, the league is a joke, not good for the international team, took the easy option, Sunderland or Wolves would of been a bigger challenge  ........ wouldn't score many goals as the players around him not good enough, how many boyhood team can you have.
