Well I wouldn't like to think we were "open" to murderers, beasts and bigots etc etc*

*And yes I am fully aware that there will be such people within our support.

    I see, my mistake.

Considering the thread is about a song which refers to being a Roman Catholic, I assumed you were talking about religion when you said open to all.

Just to clarify something here, this is the pub section of Talk Celtic, we are talking about a Pro-Catholic song, where the * did Celtic enter this discussion? People were totally jumping to conclusions, this thread was opened to discuss a song, nothing to do with Celtic.

Well if you admit such people are within our support they can hardly be excluded now can they?

You don't have to like every other Celtic fan, but they are still entitled to support Celtic no-one is excluded which makes us a club open to all.

However, this is dragging this off-topic as the thread is about the song so I suggest we get back to talking about the song.

    No worries my man :50:

Anybody who thinks that Protestants shouldn't be welcome within the club clearly don't know their history, and this applies to the "Soon there'll be no Protestants at all" brigade.

Jock Stein, Danny McGrain, Paul Lambert, Henrik Larsson...........

The fact that this thread even exists and the topic can be debated shows that we are at least 1000 levels above the Huns anyway.

It relates to Celtic because it was sung in the stands, the conversation has developed into whether it is an acceptable song to sing in the stands today. It may be a pro-catholic song, but it also promotes exclusivity towards protestantism which should not be tolerated. If you cannot see that, you are blinkered mate.

Agreed. Still a way to go though before we can say we are trully a sectarian free support IMO.

Where exactly is this exclusivity towards protestantism in the song? There is none at all, afterall this was a thread to discuss the song, not to discuss it being sung by the Celtic support.

Sorry but I really don't see any reason why Protestant Celtic supporters should feel uncomfortable with this song. If they don't want to sing it they don't have to.

At no point does the song have a go at the Protestant religion as a whole, it has a go at two historical Protestant figures who were absolute * towards Catholics and that's as far as it goes.

If a group of Celtic fans started singing a song about Jock Stein and incorporated into the song the fact that he was a Protestant I wouldn't bother my * about it tbh. The fact that I'm not a Protestant wouldn't make me feel uncomfortable about them singing it.

It is exlusive simply because a Protestant can't sing it. Not just protestants either. I should mention, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Pagans, those of no religious persuasion. It seeds division if not everyone in the support can sing the same songs IMO.

This is of course leaving aside the argument of whether songs of a religious nature should even be sung in the stands.

and i'll say it - i dont find that sectarian - it is pro-catholic and thats all imo and i find it pretty funny rather than sectarian, both king billy and knox were absolute * * imo.

theres a huge difference between this and what the orcs sing, however i wouldnt sing the last line of the chorus and i hope we have heard the last of the on the one road add on and it goes back to 'dublin belfast cork and donegal..'

Love singin this song but only do when i'm pished and in the right company. It is sectarian though. * John Knox makes it sectarian. John Knox - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If * the Pope is sectarian then * John Knox is.
