Hopefully a movie called "sicko" by Michael
Moore will change your mind. He tells the truth believe me .

I always thought he was interesting. When I took my class on Latin American Political History I did my term paper on him. Had a lot of interesting things happen to him during the pre presidential days.

In all fairness Michael Moore isn't the beholder of all truths.

    Manufacturing Dissent shows that.

He does do a good job of opening the eyes of none the wiser individuals which in this case would be beneficial to Jorge. Good shout.

Get back on topic and cut out the arguments.

If anyone wants to debate the rights or wrongs of what Chavez did start a thread in the H+P section.

Come on man be decent and show some respect . You have to understand a lot of americans see communism/socialism and automatically think it's bad because of people like Stalin . What happened in Russia and North Korea waste total opposite of communism they totally perverted the idea. Hugo Chavez was one the only leaders I admire because he did not steal people's money like Stalin ,Reagan ,bush etc. Socialism is actually a good thing.

Oh, you do realise you were wrong then? I do apologise. Also, they did have coalitions/electoral pacts back then actually. Yet more ignorance.

Yes, you're right about one thing - let's get this back on topic. There is a Hitler's Rise to Power thread you can find if you really do want to keep arguing your historically inaccurate and factually incorrect statement from earlier on. I suspect not though.

Although I've been expecting this news for a while I'm absolutely gutted to hear Chavez has passed. A big loss to the Bolivarian revolution, the Venezuelan people and Latin America as a whole.

    RIP El Commandante.

Don't get the level of hero worship tbh. OK, did some good things....but there's plenty of buts. I mean shouting over everybody to get your point across is hardly a debating style nor is it dialogue.

I think a lot is lost in translation. When u only get dubbed versions you dont realise how much of a 'I AM BETTER THAN YOU SO WILL SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO ME' rem...person he comes across as (no disrespect meant to the man)

Being fluent in Spanish I find can be a disadvantage when somebody's political ideals kind of appeal to you but the guy comes across as less likeable than David Cameron. My tuppence worth. RIP

    http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/john-wight/venezuelas-hugo-chavez-ha_b_1912366.html

"The lowest indices of inequality in Latin America over the past 12 years"

"The investment of 7.8% of GNP into a free healthcare program, known as Mission Barrio Adentro, designed to provide free healthcare services to the poor."

"A reduction in the rate of unemployment from 16.1% in 1998 to 6.5% today. Venezuela's minimum wage is now among the highest in Latin America"

Yeah the poor really suffering under the "commie" tyrant.

RIP to Chavez, he had his flaws but I don't doubt for a second his sincerity in defending the poor, which is something you can't say of many politicians.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdUwkxhsjKk"]The War On Democracy - John Pilger - Documentary - YouTube[/ame]

An absolutely excellent John Pilger documentary on Chavez including the attempted Coup in 2002 when a million people swarmed onto the streets of Caracas to demand his return.

Can you imagine a million people rushing on to the streets for any western leaders? This guy was adored by the people in the Barrios of Venezuela, because he brought them hope, health and education.

    Bless you brother!

I thought I'd repost these articles for this thread for anyone who wishes to have a read through a couple of the early Obituaries. Also helps get it on topic.

Strangely enough none of these facts are getting aired on the BBC tonight :87:, the establishment media really circle their wagons when faced with a success that threatens the status quo.

When i read about your concern for the Pakistani children, my gut reaction was it was a disingenuous claim..........so when i then read of your feelings on FDR and Obama...it made sense, and told me my gut reaction was right after all!:50:

Im not up to speed on everything regarding Chavez, but i believe his heart was in the right place....however, its easy to throw money about when you are in an oil rich place like Venezuela. That said.....hope he died peacefully!
